DVD-V8000 FAQs

Below are general questions and answers about the Industrial DVD Player, DVD-V8000. For additional or detailed information, refer to the operating instructions shipped with your player or go to the Pioneer website at www.pioneerelectronics.com
1) Why should I put the Pioneer DVD-V8000 in to my kiosk instead of using a consumer-level player? This DVD player is built for heavy-duty industrial use. With the RS-232C Serial control and jama control, this model is the business solution for kiosks and other heavy-duty usage areas. Many customers have been running their Pioneer Industrial DVD players for 24 hours a day/7 days a week for as much as 3 years without problems. Does the DVD-V8000 have a front panel display? Yes the DVD-V8000 is the first industrial DVD player from Pioneer that offers a front panel LCD display. Where can I find the commands for the RS-232C functions? Pioneers DVD-V8000 Support webpage provides the most current version of the Command Protocol Manual in electronic (pdf) format along with other valuable information. (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/support/details/0,,2076_310070219_315329303,00.html) Why does my DVD-V8000 eject the DVD disc when I insert it into the player? The player ejects a disc when the media is unreadable. Check to see if the disc is dirty, scratched or has any foreign material on the recording surface. Another possibility is that the media is of poor quality, often referred to as 'generic' media. Avoid using unknown or poor quality blank media. When the disc is produced on a newer set-top recorder, the video recording format may be in VR format rather than Video format. This unit reads Video format only. If the disc is in good condition and the disc is in the Video format but is still ejected, send your player to a Pioneer ASC (Authorized Service Center). Why am I getting an E04 error message when my frame search command fails to execute? Press the display button on either the DVD-V8000 or its remote. If a frame number displays, reinsert the disc and attempt a frame search again. However, you may be trying to play a disc that was authored with multiple program chains. If the disc is one you created, recreate the disc with a single program chain. For more information on Program Chains, refer to Product Information Bulletin #152528 available on the Pioneer website. Why is the screen/disc playback skipping around and looking like a checkerboard? Usually skipping and other playback problems can be attributed to poor-quality media, labels on the media, or recording errors on the DVD-R/RW disc. A disc with a high level of data errors shows these problems when the DVD-V8000s error correction circuitry is attempting to compensate. If the data appears to be unflawed, try recording the material to a different brand of media. Also, do not use labels on DVD-R/RW discs. Can I have simultaneous composite and component output on the DVDV8000? The DVD-V8000 is capable of simultaneously playing both Component and Composite video. The Digital Video (DVI) output is available also for simultaneous playback. What is the DVD-V8000 RS232 interface connection? The DVD-V8000 has two RS232 connections, a DB-15 which is backwards compatible with Pioneer LaserDisc (LD) and DVD players. Also offered is an industry standard DB9 connection. Is there a way to have a separate monitor show the players information, like Super output from a professional VTR and a second output with nothing but video? Yes the monitor out feature shows the players current information on a separate monitor. The data includes the playing Title, Chapter, Frame or Menu.
10) Does the DVD-V8000 support either HDMI or DVI output? Yes the DVD-V8000 offers a DVI-D output, with full adjustment of the digital signal. To use the player with a HDMI device a DVI to HDMI cable is required. 11) How easy is it to rackmount the DVD-V8000? Rackmounting is easy with the CB-A802 Rackmount kit. The kit has two ears that attach to both sides of the player for simple and easy rack installation. 12) I understand its possible to push up the DVD-V8000 output to either 720p or 1080i? The Pixel Conversion feature allows the user to up scale the DVI output to either 720p or 1080i to match the display resolution. 13) Is there a way to improve the output video quality from the DVD-V8000? Yes output video quality adjustments are possible for both analog and digital outputs. There are thirteen adjustments for analog video output plus two additional digital outputs.

Pioneer's next-generation, full-featured industrial DVD-video player designed for professional applications, the DVD-V8000 builds upon its predecessor's advanced capabilities to provide users with a robust feature set that delivers improved durability and exceptional picture quality. The player's new form factor allows for easier rack mounting; a new front panel LCD display and navigation keys on the front panel allow for enhanced ease of use; and USB interfaces allow connectivity for a computer mouse, USB Flash Memory or handwriting device. Ideally suited for industrial applications that require constant operation in high traffic environments, the DVD-V8000 is Pioneer's most rugged industrial DVD-Video player with a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rating of 50.000 hours. All drive components are enclosed in a sealed dustproof case with a brushless spindle motor for the disc drive, and a stepping motor is employed to protect the optical drive. For advanced control, the DVD-V8000 offers 9-pin and 15-pin serial interfaces that employ the full range of RS-232C commands. The 15-pin connector also supports the ability to build custom button input devices to control the player. Two front panel USB interfaces and one in the rear allow users to connect a computer mouse or special handwriting device. Connection of a memory device to the USB ports allows users to load and save their preferred player settings, as well as any command stack data. The DVD-V8000 features a new DVI-D digital video terminal (HDCP 1.0 compliant) and the user can choose to upscale the picture resolution to as much as 1920x1080i when connected to an HD display for delivery of the highest quality digital images from standard definition DVD-video. To ensure high-quality video reproduction, 12-bit/216MHz video DAC, digital filters and digital noise reduction technologies are included, as well as Composite, S-Video, and Component analog video output terminals.
