Description
This condenser microphone has been designed on the basis of experience AKG and its customers have gained worldwide over the last decades using models such as the C 414 B. C 3000, and C 1000 S. The C 2000 B uses advanced, reliable components to meet the highest professional demands and withstand even long-time, tough handling in the studio and on stage. The C 2000 B provides the following features: The transducer capsule has been acoustically designed with a cardioid polar pattern to make the microphone suitable for use both in the recording studio and on stage. The diaphragm is made of a plastic foil that is gold-sputtered on one side to prevent local shorts to the back electrode even at extremely high sound pressure levels. A switchable preattenuation pad allows you to increase the maximum SPL capability of your C 2000 B by 10 dB for distortion-free close-in recordings. Many mixing console input stages use small transformers that are susceptible to overload, particularly at low frequencies. The C 2000Bs pad prevents such overload. A bass cut filter that is switchable on the microphone body reduces lowend distortion due to uncontrolled rumble or wind noise even further. Also, you can eliminate the proximity effect (occurring at working distances of less than 4 inches) inherent in unidirectional microphones by switching the bass cut filter in. The filter has a 6 dB/octave slope starting at 500 Hz. The all-metal die-cast body shields the microphone very effectively against RF interference when using it near radio transmitters or together with wireless microphones or other communication systems and protects the microphone from the hardships of live use. The built-in pop screen is ideal for vocal use.
An internal spider-type shock mount for the transducer effectively suppresses handling and cable noise. A safety flange on the connector shaft prevents the microphone from falling out of the spider suspension or stand adapter even when mounted upside down. With its high SPL capability, minimum distortion, and resistance to extreme temperatures and high humidity, the C 2000B is a truly universal microphone. Although the microphone capsule is shock mounted internally, you can use the supplied H 100 spider suspension to reduce vibrational noise from the stand or other sources even further. Remember to insert the cable into one of the two grooves at the rear end of the outer ring for strain relief. This removes mechanical pull from the connector and reduces vibrational noise that may be transmitted to the microphone by the cable.
Applications
Its capsule design and pickup pattern make the C 2000 B a perfect choice for many applications both in the studio and on stage. Although the list below is far from complete, it is a good starting point for making excellent recordings. Please note that each instrument has its own distinct projection pattern and the quality of the recorded sound ultimately depends on how you place the microphone. You will therefore need to experiment to find the optimum microphone placement for each instrument. Recommended Applications Preferred Backing vocals Acoustic guitar Zither Horn Saxophone Flute Harmonica congas Bongos Snare drum Cymbals Hi-hat Trumpet Recommended Solo vocals Upright piano Grand piano (rock & jazz) Violin Cello Clarinet Tom-toms

Powering
The C 2000 B operates on any phantom power source to DIN / IEC 268-15. This standard specifies a positive voltage of 12, 24, or 48 VDC on the two audio lines referenced to the cable shield. Alternatively, you can operate the microphone on any DC voltage between 9 and 52 V fed to the microphone via standard phantom power wiring.
If the amplifier inputs are single-ended (grounded) or have no input transformers, wire either capacitors or optional transformers into the audio lines to prevent any current leakage into the input stage.

C 2000 B
Stage and Studio Condenser Microphone Description
The C 2000 B is a versatile, side-address cardioid condenser microphone intended for professional and home studio applications as well as on-stage activities. It consists of a patent pending one-half inch capsule element which is placed in a larger baffle ring. This measure gives the C 2000 B more forward directionality at high frequencies. The microphones response is tailored to have a broad on-axis rise at high frequencies, while maintaining a fairly uniform diffuse field over the entire frequency band. The added presence at very high frequencies is an asset in many micing situations, especially home recording studios, while maintaining good feedback rejection in live sound applications. Its 0.5% THD point of 140 dB (150 dB with the integral 10-dB pad engaged) and high sensitivity of 20 mV/Pa indicate that this model can deliver maximum operating output signals in the range of 4 volts. The self-noise floor is 20 dB (A), giving the microphone an effective dynamic range of 120 dB. An integral bass cut switch provides a gentle 6 dB per octave roll-off below 500 Hz, and as such will compensate for the proximity effect (low frequency boost) associated with close micing. The cardioid polar pattern, has been refined to give maximum rejection across the frequency band at 180 degrees. Internal shock mounting of the diaphragm assembly makes this model studio friendly and easy to use in demanding live performances. The SA41/1 stand adapter is included. Optional accessories include the B18E battery supply unit and the H 100 external elastic shock suspension.
