Engine development never stops at Alfa Romeo and todays engines offer better than ever performance in terms of power and consumption. Two engines in particular stand out. The first is the 200 bhp 1750 TBi petrol engine that develops 320 Nm of torque continuously between 1400 and 5000 rpm. These impressive figures guarantee you superb acceleration without you having to work the gearbox. The second is the new 170 bhp 2.0 JTDM diesel engine that features a variable geometry turbocharger and delivers significantly lower fuel consumption. Both new engines already conform to future Euro 5 standards.
One particularly important development is Alfa Romeos introduction of a new Eco version incorporating special technical solutions capable of offering lower consumption and reduced exhaust emissions without penalising the driving pleasure and sports performance typical of all Alfa Romeos. The new Eco version is powered by the 120 bhp 1.9 JTDM 8v diesel engine.

The new 159 engines satisfy all driving needs but excel in making you feel in complete control of a true sporting thoroughbred. Both the Saloon and Sportwagon offer a choice of three petrol and four diesel engines, all characterised by impressive power and elasticity. You can choose between the 2.2 JTS 185 bhp, the new 200 bhp 1750 TBi or the classic 3.2 JTS Vbhp petrol engine. If you prefer a diesel, the 159 offers the unmistakable Turbo Diesel Common Rail JTDM in a choice of displacements from the 120 bhp 1.9 litre to the 210 bhp 2.4 litre, all equipped as standard with a for life particulate filter.

Feel in control behind the wheel
Thats exactly what happens when you grip the steering wheel and press down on the accelerator of an Alfa Romeo 159. Because thats when the raised double wishbone front suspension a technology derived from the world of motor racing and applied exclusively by Alfa Romeo comes into its own. This advanced suspension system ensures precise, linear steering, better traction and reduced pitching under braking. At the rear, multilink suspension controls wheel movement to ensure constantly optimised traction and grip. Alfa Romeo has developed the Electronic Q2 system precisely to make the most of this high performance suspension. Electronic Q2 uses the ESP control unit to create an effect similar to that of a limited slip differential, but using the cars braking system instead. The system combines the benefits of front wheel drive and four wheel drive to improve road holding, traction and stability. The end result is highly effective sporting suspension and a feeling of complete control that only the 159 can offer. The new 159 also incorporates all the usual electronic safety systems including ABS with EBD, VDC electronic stability control, ASR antislip control, HBA emergency braking assistance and Hill Holder for effortless hill-starts plus a servo-assisted braking system that ensures responsive and progressive braking action and minimal stopping distances.

On-board technology.
The Alfa 159 comes with Blue&Me, the hands-free system with voice recognition based on Windows Mobile technology. You can use your own voice or the function keys on the steering wheel to operate your mobile phone over a Bluetooth connection or to listen to music from a media player or pen drive. If you feel happier when you receive clear directions to your destination, the 159 offers two solutions. Blue&Me Nav incorporates all the standard functions of Blue&Me plus a simple and user friendly pictographic sat-nav system. Alternatively, you can choose a map based sat-nav system with a 6.5 LCD display that also provides display and control functions for the radio, CD player and MP3 player plus voicecontrolled, hands-free, GSM mobile communications.
