The BlackBerry Presentation Client can communicate with the enterprise IT infrastructure in one of two ways; either directly over the GPRS network, or via RIMs BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), using the Mobile Data Service (MDS). The communication works in a similar way to browsing the Internet from a BlackBerry phone, except that the endpoint of the communication is SAP R/3, via the Sky VTI Java Server. What this allows you to do is communicate with SAP R/3 in real time from your BlackBerry. Stock enquiries, sales orders, and virtually anything else you can do within SAP can be initiated from the BlackBerry handheld.
