Smart cards store certificates and private keys. You can use a smart card reader to import certificates from a smart card to the key store on your BlackBerry device, but you cannot import private keys. As a result, private key operations such as signing and decryption use the smart card, and public key operations such as verification and encryption use the public certificates on your device. If you use a smart card certificate to authenticate to your device, after you connect your smart card reader to your device, your device requests authentication from the smart card each time that you unlock your device. If the S/MIME Support Package for BlackBerry devices is installed on your device, you can use smart card certificates to send S/MIMEprotected messages.
About two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication, which requires an item that you have (for example, a smart card) and an item that you know (for example, a pass phrase), is designed to provide additional security for your BlackBerry device. You can use a smart card for two-factor authentication when you log in to your device, or you can use a software token for two-factor authentication when you use your device with RSA software as a hardware token. If you use two-factor authentication, you must type your pass phrase when you unlock your device change a general security option on your device change a smart card option use your device with RSA software

Specific absorption rate data
THIS WIRELESS DEVICE MODEL MEETS GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES. The BlackBerry device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the U.S. Government, Industry Canada of the Canadian Government (IC), and recommended by The Council of the European Union. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent
scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless devices employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC/IC is 1.6W/kg*. The SAR limit recommended by The Council of the European Union is 2.0W/kg**. Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions specified by the FCC/IC with the device transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the device while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the device is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower the power output. Before a wireless device model is available for sale to the public, it must be tested and certified to the FCC, IC, and The Council of the European Union that it does not exceed the limit established by the government-adopted requirement for safe exposure under the recommendations of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The tests are performed in positions and locations (for example, at the ear and worn on the body) as required by the FCC, IC, and The Council of the European Union for each model. The highest SAR value for each device model when tested for use at the ear is outlined below: Device BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone 1 g / 10 g SAR (W/kg) 1.24/1.13

The highest reported SAR value for this BlackBerry device when clipped on a belt, in a Research In Motion (RIM) approved holster equipped with an integrated belt clip, is outlined below. Carrying solutions, including RIM approved carrying solutions and carrying solutions not approved by RIM, that do not come equipped with an integrated belt clip SHOULD NOT be worn or carried on the body. For more information regarding the wearing or carrying of this BlackBerry device without using a RIM approved carrying solution equipped with an integrated belt clip, see the Holster information in the "Additional safety guidelines" section of this document. Device BlackBerry 8110 smartphone 1 g / 10 g SAR (W/kg) 0.83/0.71
Body-worn measurements differ among wireless device and phone models, depending upon available accessories and FCC, IC, and The Council of the European Union requirements. The FCC has granted an Equipment Authorization for this wireless device model with all reported SAR levels evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF emission guidelines. SAR information on this wireless device model is on file with the FCC and can be found under the Display Grant section of www.fcc.gov/oet/ea after searching on FCC ID L6ARBQ40GW. Additional information on Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) can be found on the CTIA - The Wireless Association web site at www.ctia.org. ___________________________________
* In the United States and Canada, the SAR limit for mobile devices used by the public is 1.6 watts/kg (W/kg) averaged over 1 gram of tissue for the body or head (4.0 W/kg averaged over 10 grams of tissue for the extremities - hands, wrists, ankles and feet). The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safety to give additional protection for the public and to account for any variations in measurements. ** In Europe, the SAR limit for mobile devices used by the public is 2.0 watts/kg (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue for the body or head (4.0 W/kg averaged over 10 grams of tissue for the extremities - hands, wrists, ankles and feet). The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safety to give additional protection for the public and to account for any variations in measurements. The long-term characteristics or the possible physiological effects of Radio Frequency Electromagnetic fields have not been evaluated by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL).
