Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 05 January, 2009: Canon introduces its smallest, most stylish High Definition (HD) camcorders ever: the LEGRIA HF20 and LEGRIA HF200. Recording outstanding Full HD 1920x1080 movies, these new models are around 17% smaller than their predecessors. Incorporating a new version of the Canon HD Camera System with a 15x optical zoom, they encourage consumers to discover the spirit of Freecording: the idea that HD movies can be captured anywhere, at anytime and always with stunning results. 1 The Dual Flash Memory LEGRIA HF20 combines 32GB of internal memory, enough for over 12 hours of recording time, and straight-to-memory card shooting. The unique advantage of the Canon HD Camera System Re-engineered for the LEGRIA HF20 and LEGRIA HF200, an updated Canon HD Camera System delivers sharper, smoother video images that are more colourful than ever before. All parts of the system lens, CMOS sensor and image processor are made by Canon, only for Canon, and are optimised to work perfectly together. A new Canon HD Video Lens is manufactured to the most exacting standards, providing the resolution necessary for HD imaging. The extended reach of a 15x optical zoom helps users get closer to distant action. The lens incorporates Canons Super Range Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), an advanced system that combines two methods of shake detection to better compensate for vibrations across the frequency range leading to smooth, steady footage. A high resolution 3.3 Megapixel image sensor captures images at a resolution even higher than that required for Full HD. Canons new DIGIC DV III processor handles this enormous amount of image information, recording data at the maximum rate permissible under the AVCHD standard: 24Mbps. defined by vivid colours and exceptional detail. DIGIC DV III also supports the expanded colour gamut of xvYCC Colour Space (x.v.Color) and Face Detection Technology. Shortcuts to great movies Canons new DIGIC DV III processor brings Face Detection to Canon camcorders for the first time. Canon Face Detection Technology can detect up to 35 faces in a single frame, optimising shooting settings appropriately. Up to nine faces can be highlighted, one of which can be selected by the user as the scenes main reference point. Sophisticated Face Select and Track technology similar to that found in Canon compact digital cameras ensures that the chosen face remains selected for as long as possible. Face Detection AE (Auto Exposure) harnesses the power of DIGIC DV III to quickly achieve correct exposure. Face Detection AF (Auto Focus) employs Canons unique Instant AF system which offers both speed and accuracy to track faces and ensure that they are correctly focused. Canons Face Detection system is unique, responding exceptionally quickly and smoothly even when faces are framed against backgrounds that are significantly darker or lighter than the subject. Face Detection also makes playback much easier: Face Jump and Face Timeline modes allow users to quickly find the footage they want. Unique to Canon camcorders in 2009, Video Snapshot mode provides an easy way to record a day out doing away with the need for complex editing. All it takes is the press of a single button to capture a four second sequence of video. Engaging movies can then easily be created from a sequence of these clips. The finished movie can be played back to music five rights-free tracks are supplied on CD and pre-loaded onto the camcorder. Alternatively, users can upload tracks from their own library. With the new Pre REC function, the camcorder continually buffers three seconds of movie footage while the LCD screen is open. This means that, from the moment the record button is pressed, the camcorder also captures all of the action that took place three seconds before. Pre REC effectively allows users to rewind time and preserve moments that would otherwise be missed. Superb still shooting Alongside dedicated Video and Still shooting modes, a third option on the function dial introduces Dual Shot. Switching to Dual Shot sets all of the camcorders key controls to automatic, leaving the user free to concentrate on shooting movies and

taking up to 3.3 Megapixel photographs. In Dual Shot, stills can be taken at any point even during video recording. Accessing Playback mode has also been simplified. With a single press of a dedicated button, users gain access to a thumbnail menu displaying the footage or the still images they have captured, ready for preview. Photo Burst allows users to capture stills from a sequence of recorded video. With a press of the Photo button 25 individual shots are created from a single second of video a fun way to capture the best scenes as photographs.
