The Citron C5 takes this even further, ensuring optimised CO2 levels by cutting pollutant emissions with its electronically controlled high pressure direct injection diesel engines, as well as its multi-valve petrol engines.

ENERGY SAVER TYRES

With a reduction in rolling resistance of 20%, Michelins Energy Saver tyres, fitted on HDi 110 manual VTR+ NAV models, reduce the amount of energy needed to propel the car along the road which results in a reduction in the fuel consumption. This is achieved with no loss of grip or stability, with shorter stopping distances in wet conditions. The tyres innovative architecture generates fuel savings of nearly 0.5 litres per 100km (in combined cycle), resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions of nearly 19g/km and around one tonne less CO2 over the entire life of a Citron C5.
BIG IDEAS, SMALL FOOTPRINT
15 years of development have gone into our HDi direct injection engines, making them refined and frugal. In combination with a beautifully simple Stop & Start system and sophisticated EGS gearbox, the e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6 can achieve 61.4mpg and CO2 emissions of only 120g/km. The EGS gearbox is an advanced transmission that lets you select either effortless full automatic shifts, or manual changes via the steering wheel mounted paddles. Its part of what makes Citron efficient engineering unique. Stop & Start puts the engine into idle mode as you decelerate and stops altogether as you come to a halt. The moment you take your foot off the brake, it restarts silently and without vibration. It helps to reduce CO2 by about 5g/km and fuel consumption by 15% in the city. 13

It has an advanced braking system with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) so you can stay on guard in all conditions. And if you do find yourself in an unexpectedly hairy situation, you can rely on sophisticated added safety measures such as traction control and hazard warning lights activated automatically when the ABS operates.

ADAPT TO IMPACT

With a reinforced outer shell, the Citron C5 has been designed for endurance as well as performance. The front end features upper and lower energy absorbers which provide cushioning on impact, while the cabin structure is also reinforced to create a strong passenger survival cell. In the Citron C5, you and your passengers are obsessively protected from every direction with up to nine airbags cushioning against front, side and head impact. In the passenger seat, theres optional airbag de-activation and importantly for the driver, not only does the steering column retract by 65mm, but thanks to the fixed-centred controls steering wheel, your airbag always deploys at the safest possible angle.

Please note, Citron Assistance only applies to incidents covered by the new vehicle warranty, and excludes non-vehicle faults, such as running out of fuel, mis-fuelling, loss of keys, lock-ins, road traffic accidents and punctures/wheel changes. FIXED-CENTRED CONTROLS STEERING WHEEL
A Citron innovation that makes for safer driving in every way. Whilst the rim of the steering wheel turns normally, the centre hub remains static which means that all the audio, information and driving controls operated from here stay in exactly the same place. It also means that the drivers airbag can be specially sculpted to deploy more favourably than the round ones necessary in cars with conventional steering wheels.

HYDRACTIVE 3+ SUSPENSION

An outstanding Citron invention built on the companys renowned hydropneumatic sphere platform, Hydractive 3+ suspension offers the ultimate in driver control and passenger comfort. To begin with, the car maintains a constant ride height at all times regardless of load (either weight or force) which ensures excellent driver control. In addition, electronic sensors read the road and driving style hundreds of times a second and adapt the hydraulic damping accordingly, maintaining perfect poise. The driver is also able to select two different suspension modes designed for varying degrees of comfort or sporty driving. The system is maintenance free for five years or 200,000km.
ADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS)

PHILIPS HI-FI SYSTEM

The Philips Hi-Fi system has just some of the following features: Dolby surround sound, made to measure acoustics, spatial sounds specially developed and configurated for the passenger compartment, 1 subwoofer, high digital signal processor, digital amplifier and 8 Philips speakers.

Our HDi diesel engines operate with the fuel under extremely high pressure, enabling microscopically precise injection control. With this level of management its possible to inject at different times during the same engine stroke allowing total control over the combustion process. This has allowed our engineers to reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 40%, unburned hydrocarbons by 50% and engine particulates by 60%. Fuel consumption is 20% lower than a prechamber diesel engine, resulting in an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions and thanks to the torque available at low engine speed it could be argued that driveability is now better than in petrol engined cars.
HIGH-PRESSURE DIRECT INJECTION DIESEL ENGINE
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)
Computer-controlled braking assistance designed to prevent the wheels from locking under extreme braking. This enables the car to continue being steered and therefore controlled during this braking incident. The Citron C5s ABS system is further enhanced with EBA and EBD (see below).
