Blu-ray Disc/DVD Surround Receiver
A desire of audiophiles. Premium picture and sound quality.
A new idea from Denon. A Blu-ray Disc / DVD Surround Receiver not seen anywhere else. Richly endowed with high-quality HD sound and video technology developed for Denons high-end gear. The S-5BD features a highly accurate mechanism newly developed for Denons high-end Blu-ray disc player, impeccable craftsmanship and engineering that have for many years featured in Denons audio and home theatre systems, and other state-of-the-art technologies that provide uncompromising support for exceptional HD audio and video playback quality. An advanced intelligent system automatically detects the number and characteristics of speakers in your setup to achieve optimum performance for the acoustics of your room whether you are using a 2.1-channel or a 5.1-channel speaker system. This single S-5BD component ensures you experience total enjoyment from pure stereo playback to full-fledged cinematic sound. Another important feature of the S-5BD is its ability to become an Audiophile Quality Smart System that not only lets you connect an iPod or USB memory player to listen to tracks from those devices but also provides plug-n-play features, intuitive operation via a GUI, and automatic selection of a surround mode that matches the source being played.

Video technologies inherited from Denons high-end components
Audio and video engineering design of high-end components, premium HD audio & video quality
Support for HD audio formats: Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, Support for latest surround formats: Dolby Virtual Speaker and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Denons original high-end Blu-ray disc drive mechanism, for faithful reading and accurate playback of high-definition A/V signals from Blu-ray disc Denon craftsmanship, in assiduous pursuit of the ideal in A/V playback devices
- Direct Mechanical Ground Construction, supporting high-quality HD sound and video by suppressing vibration guarding against electromagnetic noise caused by different electric signals for clean and pure A/V signal transfer stages) to achieve clean, stable performance and lower standby power. - Independent high-density PWBs, to preserve signal purity during transfer - Independent Block Construction, to faithfully reproduce video and audio signals by - Simple & Straight Signal Path and Minimum Signal Path, - Independent power supplies for each stage (Digital, Power amplifier, and Pre-amplifier
- 1080p/24 video output, for realistic reproduction of tactility in films - Support for Deep Color and x.v.Color, to amply reproduce the colours of HD quality from Blu-ray disc
Advanced Denon technologies
- AL24 Processing: Analog waveform reproduction technology AL24 Processing interpolates signals that have been lost when the source was recorded as digital data and reproduces the original analog waveform. By producing an analog waveform that is as close as possible to the one that existed when the digital recording was made, it is possible to enjoy the realism of a concert hall, for instance, where the music contains reverberations and other delicate details. - Compressed Audio Restorer, to enhance digital music files During playback of compressed audio sources such as WMA and MP3, Compressed Audio Restorer interpolates data that has been lost during compression in order to restore the original condition as closely as possible and correct the sense of volume in the low range. When these audio files are played through the S-5BD, it is possible to enjoy a quality of sound that is very close to the original prior to compression.
Speaker Flexibility
Drivability of full-bandwidth speakers from 4 to 16 ohms Audyssey MultEQ, to optimise speaker characteristics and room acoustics
Audyssey MultEQ counts the number of speakers you have connected and analyses the characteristics of both the speakers and the rooms acoustics to automatically make the optimal acoustic settings for your listening environment. High-quality sound can be enjoyed from all types of speakers.
Audyssey Dynamic VolumeTM & Dynamic EQTM
Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. Dynamic EQ solves the problem of deteriorating sound quality as volume is decreased by taking into account human perception and room acoustics.

A) COMMAND is receivable also during transmission of EVENT. B) Since CHANNEL VOLUME changes simultaneously when the SURROUND MODE changes, the value of the channel volume of all channels returns as EVENT. C) CHANNEL VOLUME returns the data of ALL channels by the present SURROUND MODE also including an intact channel. In this case, the data of an intact channel is set to "50". D) Since SURROUND MODE changes simultaneously when the INPUT source changes, the SURROUND MODE (and also the value of the channel volume of all channels , It described in B) ) returns as EVENT. E) When SURROUND MODE is the same in between INPUT source change before and after, EVENT of SURROUND MODE and CHANNEL VOLUME does NOT return. F) Although EVENT of SURROUND MODE returns when the present SURROUND MODE is set up again, CHANNEL VOLUME does NOT return. G) When SURROUND MODE is changed, before returning SURROUND MODE after change as EVENT, the present SURROUND MODE is returned. H) The RESPONSE should be sent as opposed to the request command by all the commands with which an EVENT exists , not need to the another request commands(ex. SV command). I) The PARAMETER (with COMMAND and RESPONSE, EVENT) of minimum level of MASTER VOLUME defines 99. Ex. MASTER VOLUME = +1.0dB : 0dB : -1.0dB : | -80.0dB : --: * At the **.0dB step, only uses two MV81<CR> MV80<CR> MV79<CR> | MV00<CR> MV99<CR> ASCII characters as PARAMETER, same as usual.
