iPod/iPhone COMMANDS
Saying iPod will change the current source to iPod from any other source that may be currently selected. Search Artist, Search Playlist, and Search Album 16 are good recommended starting points to begin selecting the music you would like to listen to. The recommended step would be to narrow the search through the alphabetical search function. Search M would list artists, albums, playlists or songs that begin with the letter M depending which category of search was selected. Use the Page Up or Page Down commands until the desired music is displayed on the screen then select the music by Line One, Line Two commands. If an album is listed as a selection along with other albums and you would like to play the entire album then sayPlay One, Play Two, etc. 19
QUICK START GUIDE FOR ADVANCED VOICE CONTROL
DNX9140
Thank you for choosing Kenwoods most advanced multimedia and navigation receiver, the DNX9140. This product allows voice control for both navigation, internal sources and connected sources. This guide will show you some of the more commonly used commands you will be using on a regular basis. For more detailed information on voice commands please refer to the Voice Command Table packaged with this product.
GETTING STARTED
It is important to not only use the correct words for voice control but to speak them clearly at a time when there is minimal background noise. For best results have the microphone facing the driver, operate with vehicle windows and sunroof closed and with only one person (driver) talking while the unit is receiving the commands.
BLUETOOTH COMMANDS
Once your phone has been paired and phonebook information is available on the unit you can access the information by saying Handsfree. 20 The next selection would most likely be Phonebook, Incoming Calls, Outgoing Calls or Missed Calls and Page Up or Page Down commands. When searching through a phonebook use the alphabetical search for best results. Search K would bring up all names that start with K. 21 Make a selection through the Line One, Line Two, etc. commands. Once you have confirmed the correct number has been selected say Call Number to initiate the call. 22
The Push to Talk (PTT) button 1 Pushing the PTT button will enter the user into voice control mode as well as exit out of voice control mode.
TOP RIGHT CORNER VOICE CONTROL ICONS
A Green Icon 2 means ready to receive a voice command and a Red/Brown 3 icon means the unit is not actively listening for a voice command. It is critical that a command is given only when the icon is green even if the confirming text may be seen on the screen before the icon turns green.
TUNER/SATELLITE RADIO COMMANDS
To enter Tuner or Satellite source say either 23 Tuner, Sirius or XM. Seek Up or Seek Down commands can be used to change channels either up or down. Preset One, Preset Two, etc. can be used to select a stored preset. 23 Satellite Radio allows Category List to select the music, talk or sports content to be listened to. Page Up, Page Down and Line One, Line Two, etc. will be used to make selections during this type of operation. 24
After entering the voice control mode for audio sources such as iPod, Tuner, Satellite or DVD/CD small green dots will appear next to the GUI buttons that can be controlled by a voice command. 4

GLOBAL COMMANDS
Global commands can operate regardless of what appears on the screen while other commands remain specific to a source or for operation during navigation. The following is an example of the most commonly used global commands. GLOBAL COMMANDS Where To View Map Find Address Find POI Find POI by Name Find POI by Category Go Home Tuner HD Radio Sirius XM iPod USB Handsfree DVD Control Screen Activates navigation start page Shows your current position on the navigation map Begins the voice command entry process for an address Jumps to selection of Category or Place Name Jumps to Speak the Name of a Popular Place Jumps to POI selection page Routes to address stored as home location Switches source to FM/AM Tuner Switches source to HD Radio if connected Switches source to Sirius if connected Switches source to XM if connected Switches source to iPod Switches source to USB Switches screen to Bluetooth start page Switches source to DVD/CD Changes secondary or minimized source screen to full page view and control
Find POI by Name
A POI can be selected by speaking the name of a popular place such as McDonalds or Home Depot. 9 If there are several choices to choose from then select Line One, Line Two, Page Up, Page Down, etc. or if no selection is correct choose Back 10 and re-enter the commands. Once the POI has been selected the large green Go button 11 appears with the correct POI information on the map. Just say Go and the route will calculate.
NAVIGATION COMMANDS
Find POI by Category
Your Point of Interest (POI) search can be further narrowed by the category you are looking for such as Food, Lodging or Gas. 5 If there are several choices to choose from, then select Line One, Line Two Page Up, Page Down, etc. or choose Back to change the POI category. 6 Once the POI has been selected, 7 just say Go and the route will calculate. 8
Find Address
If you choose to enter an address, you will be prompted to speak the name of the City, 12 the House Number, 13 the Street Name 14 and after making selections by voice commands or selecting line numbers (if prompted), the address can be calculated to a route by saying Go when the large green Go button 15 appears.

2WARNING
If you connect the ignition wire (red) and the battery wire (yellow) to the car chassis (ground), you may cause a short circuit, that in turn may start a fire. Always connect those wires to the power source running through the fuse box. Do not cut out the fuse from the ignition wire (red) and the battery wire (yellow). The power supply must be connected to the wires via the fuse.
Acquiring GPS Signals
The first time you turn on DNX9140, you must wait while the system acquires satellite signals for the first time. This process could take up to several minutes. Make sure your vehicle is outdoors in an open area away from tall buildings and trees for fastest acquisition. After the system acquires satellites for the first time, it will acquire satellites quickly each time thereafter.
About the Front Panel
When removing the product from the box or installing it, the front panel may be positioned at the angle shown in (Fig. 1). This is due to the characteristics of a mechanism the product is equipped with. If the program that is activated when the product is first powered on works properly, the front panel will automatically move into the position (initial setting angle) shown in (Fig. 2).

Mounting and wiring this product requires skills and experience. For safetys sake, leave the mounting and wiring work to professionals. Make sure to ground the unit to a negative 12V DC power supply. Do not install the unit in a spot exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat or humidity. Also avoid places with too much dust or the possibility of water splashing. Do not use your own screws. Use only the screws provided. If you use the wrong screws, you could damage the unit. If the power is not turned ON (PROTECT is displayed), the speaker wire may have a short-circuit or touched the chassis of the vehicle and the protection function may have been activated. Therefore, the speaker wire should be checked. If your cars ignition does not have an ACC position, connect the ignition wires to a power source that can be turned on and off with the ignition key. If you connect the ignition wire to a power source with a constant voltage supply, as with battery wires, the battery may die. If the console has a lid, make sure to install the unit so that the faceplate will not hit the lid when closing and opening. If the fuse blows, first make sure the wires arent touching to cause a short circuit, then replace the old fuse with one with the same rating. Insulate unconnected wires with vinyl tape or other similar material. To prevent a short circuit, do not remove the caps on the ends of the unconnected wires or the terminals. Connect the speaker wires correctly to the terminals to which they correspond. The unit may be damaged or fail to work if you share the - wires or ground them to any metal part in the car. When only two speakers are being connected to the system, connect the connectors either to both the front output terminals or to both the rear output terminals (do not mix front and rear). For example, if you connect the + connector of the left speaker to a front output terminal, do not connect the - connector to a rear output terminal. After the unit is installed, check whether the brake lamps, blinkers, wipers, etc. on the car are working properly. Mount the unit so that the mounting angle is 30 or less. This unit has the cooling fan (page 5) to decrease the internal temperature. Do not mount the unit in a place where the cooling fan of the unit are blocked. Blocking these openings will inhibit the cooling of the internal temperature and result in malfunction. Do not press hard on the panel surface when installing the unit to the vehicle. Otherwise scars, damage, or failure may result.
