Colour, music and activity reign on Plaza de la Catedral, in the Old Havana district. Many say it is the most beautiful of Havanas historical neighbourhoods. It is dominated by the baroque limestone facade of the eighteenth-century Cathedral of Saint Christopher of Havana. But instead of sacred silence, today the plaza is lled with sounds of a colourful troupe of musicians on stilts. And because Cuban music has such an irresistible rhythm, its not long before Silvia is up dancing too. Paolo picks up the Leica V-Lux 20 and captures the moment in razor-sharp clarity. Walking past the many lovingly-restored buildings in historic Old Havana (declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982), you feel as if youve been transported to a bygone era in colonial times. Yet the beautifully-decorated colonial palaces, squares and monuments that stand here so proudly contrast starkly with the dilapidated adjoining district of Centro Habana. Shining majestically between the two neighbourhoods above Parque Central stands El Capitolio, or the National Capitol Building. 1 ENORMOUS FOCAL LENGTH

Almost 100 years of expertise and experience in optical engineering go into the making of every Leica lens. This is also true of the Leica DC-Vario-Elmar 4.149.2 mm f/3.34.9 ASPH. (equiv. 25300 mm in 35-mm format) lens in the Leica V-Lux 20. The high-quality design of this zoom lens enables the use of an enormous range of equivalent focal lengths from 25 to 300 mm for both still photography and movies. For macro photography, extremely wide-angle views or zooming in on distant subjects, the V-Lux 20 captures amazingly sharp images across the entire wide-angle to telephoto range. When shooting with longer focal lengths (telephoto) or in poor light, optical image stabilisation effectively prevents blurred or shaky pictures. The camera features a 14.5-megapixel sensor. Flexible use of the sensor format guarantees full exploitation of the entire zoom range (35-mm equivalent: 25300 mm) in all possible image aspect ratios, whether set for 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9. The maximum resolution of 12.1 megapixels is available for images shot with an aspect ratio of 4:3. In this way, the Leica DC-Vario-Elmar 4.149.2 mm f/3.34.9 ASPH. combines extreme versatility with outstanding resolving power to create images with incomparable brilliance.

2 EASY, INTUITIVE HANDLING
Leica cameras have always set the standard for the best possible handling. The ergonomically-positioned and logically-arranged controls of the Leica V-Lux 20 ensure intuitive handling of the camera, even by less experienced photographers. A wide range of automated functions ensures straightforward operation in any situation. At the same time, manual setting options for apertures and shutter speeds provide greater creative scope for more demanding users. The mode-selection dial on the cameras top plate allows fast and simple switching between the various automatic modes and manual operation. 4 HIGH-RESOLUTION LCD DISPLAY
The V-Lux 20 has a generously-sized, bright, high-resolution 3" LCD monitor with a diagonal of 7.5 cm. Its 460,000-pixel display and automatic brightness compensation guarantee optimum rendition of detail in both preview and review modes. This allows the photographer to accurately assess image quality as soon as the picture is taken, ensuring perfect results every time.

6 INTEGRATED GPS FUNCTION

The compact size and enormous zoom range of the Leica V-Lux 20 make it an ideal companion for world travellers. And its integrated GPS tagging function is another great reason to take it along wherever you go. This innovative feature records the geographical coordinates of the location and local time of every picture you shoot, and stores this information in the EXIF data of the image files.1 This feature provides a variety of fascinating options and benefits. When travelling with the V-Lux 20, it displays all the sights in the immediate neighbourhood. In fact, it has access to a total of 500,000 points of interest in 73 countries. In addition, the GPS feature is also very useful when archiving pictures. Each picture can reveal exactly where it was shot on world maps published on social networks, image portals2 and map services like Google Maps or Google Earth.

5 MOVIES IN HD QUALITY

The 720p HD movie function is a welcome addition to the features of the Leica V-Lux 20, making it even more versatile. Movies are recorded in M-JPEG HD format and are tagged with GPS data. HD movie recording is started at the touch of a button on the back of the camera. Once started, the director can concentrate completely on the subject or scene, as the intelligent automatic systems of the V-Lux 20 integrate all the essential functions, such as face recognition, automatic scene mode selection and smart exposure for still and movie capture. Zooming while shooting movies is available across the entire 12x zoom range, just as it is when taking stills. Thanks to its smart resolution technology, the V-Lux 20 also delivers video recordings of outstanding quality. It produces quality you can see and hear: the V-Lux 20 delivers excellent audio quality using Dolby Digital stereo to ensure high-performance stereo sound. The wind-noise filter reduces undesirable noise while shooting movies outdoors. These high-performance still photography and movie functions certainly let the V-Lux 20 show off its multimedia talents. But perhaps even more amazingly, theyre built into a camera whose compact size and simple, intuitive handling make it a uniquely versatile and convenient travel companion.

7 EASY IMAGE PROCESSING

The Leica V-Lux 20 is supplied with a copy of the powerful, easy-to-use, complete image-processing solution Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0. This sophisticated software package enables fast and con-venient media management and intuitive post-processing of photos and movies. Photos and movies can be viewed and managed with its practical Media Manager function. It also includes an impressive range of image-processing options for the creative manipulation of your pictures. Its practical Before and After feature lets you compare your post-production results with the original image at any time.
