Mercedes Vehicle_Model: C180 Classic, Manual Fuel gauge works intermittently, needs new wiper blade every few thousand miles, drink holder in rear armrest easily broken, water wash tank split Vehicle_Model: C 200 Esprit Fuel gauge intermittent operation. Vehicle_Model: C220 CDI Fault_Description: Climate control recirculation will not stay set. Must frequently reset it. Left passenger window will not work using auto-up feature. Must hold button manually to close window. Dealer has never fixed these despit repeated requests! Glow plugs going bad again. Glow plug goes out before starting but then comes back on for 5 minutes after engine has been started before going out again. Fixed once before by dealer. 30,000 + plus miles on car now and there is substantially less engine power.
Vehicle_Model: E 220 Avantgarde Estate (Old Shape) 1 Tailgate shut suddenly when strut ball and socket joint broke apart. 2 Tailgate damper depressurised resulting in tailgate shutting (slowly this time) 3 Serious oil leak from engine (recovered by mobilo) 4 Failed to start on 3 ocasions (dead on key) - recovered on 2 occasions by mobilo and entire starter system renewed. 5 Injector failed - engine continued running roughly on 3 cylinders. 6 Accelerator pedal sticky 7 Windscreen wiper rain sensor not working. 8 Rear screen washer hose parted from nozzle inside tailgate (filling it with water). "Fixed" 3 times Vehicle_Model: C220 The radio system has an inbuilt aerial in the window. In Mid Wales and other hilly or built up areas the road signal fails and all you hear is crackling. A purpose built aerial should be asked for when ordering this vehicle. Vehicle_Model: CDI 220 Car has about 11,600 miles. Recently the drivers seat has developed a squeak. The drivers side assembly control for the windows and boot lid are now loose in the panel. Sometimes the left passenger window will not go up using the "auto-up" feature for the window control. Vehicle_Model: Mercedes 220CDI Auto On three occasions since March 2001the car has failed to start. Apparently gear transmission locks out the driver for up to 33mins before clearing. Vehicle_Model: E220CDI Avantgarde Heater fan very noisey and switched onto full power intermittently after 9 months from new. Required new resistor pack. Vehicle_Model: E220CDI Avantgarde Powered Steering Pump failed after 6 months. Took 9 days to source and fit new pump. Vehicle_Model: C 230 Kompressor Repeating fault - engine loses power and feels as though a cylinder is not firing. On stopping and restarting the problem normally clears. Normally happens after first start in the morning, especially in cold weather.
Vehicle_Model: C240 Saloon Alarm siren failure after 2.5 years. Apparently this fault is not uncommon as the unit is positioned behind a front wheel arch and although it is partially shielded it is nevertheless liable to collect dirt, water spray, etc. The unit was replaced but the manufacturer made no contribution - the dealer reports that electronic items like this are warranted for 12 months only. Vehicle_Model: C240 Windscreen demister settings incorrect leading to failure to remove condensation from the windscreen. Remote locking / alarm device failed and had to be replaced. Car failed to start. Traced to battery leakage from alarm. Alarm siren refitted. Car control unit refitted (SAM unit) as a fix - turned out the unit was not broken. Vehicle_Model: E270 CDI A/G Car lost power while driving. Reported to Mercedes who said was a common occurance and should reset self. Occurred several other times. Finally just took car to dealer who then had to look at it. Found fault with Turbo and reset. Occurred again! Dealer had car for 3 months! Replaced turbo 3 times before getting it right! Engine warning light continually comes on. Dealership has found no "real" fault with engine, but keeps replacing component on car. Wonder what is really up!
Vehicle_Model: E270CDI Avatgarde saloon (2002) Intermiittent fault - no acceleration, no kickdown. Resolved by engine restart. First occured 6 months from new, now becoming more frequent - and a nuisance. Dealer investigating for second time, but despite replacing some components, problem still occurs. Seems like a similar problem reported by a 320CDI earlier.
Vehicle_Model: E270 CDi Turbo failed within 2 weeks of delivery of new car. Sudden loss of power was somewhat alarming. Repair estimated to take 2 weeks. Mercedes Mobilo emergency service worked well though and courtesy car provided.
Vehicle_Model: E240 Estate ABS Brake Failure. The electronic fault indicator on the dashboard is indicating a fault The PAV indicator is also on. The brakes appear to be functioning normally - but I am worried that the car is un-safe. Vehicle_Model: 280 E Fuel tank sender failure. This is a known fault with the E class. Second unit now failing. Series of electrical faults including: two faulty instrument panels, steering wheel switch, failed windscreen washers, failed headlight washers and failed engine fan. Rain sensing wiper system. This is a safety issue. The system is unreliable and will not work in the wrong sort of rain however heavy. Perversely it will happily spring into action on dry sunny days! Optional Climate Control. This system is incapable of fulfilling its primary purpose of maintaining a constant temperature in the car, particularly in cooling mode were the variance between actual and set can be as high as 5 degrees centigrade. (Note: This is after allowing at least an hour for the system to stabilise). The dealer has been unable to rectify the problems with the system despite one software upgrade. Vehicle_Model: E300 Turbo Diesel Car 2 years and 6 months old. Air con compressor sprang a leak and had to be replaced. Oil level warning sensor also had to be replaced as it kept coming on even when oil level ok. All ok now.
Vehicle_Model: E320CDI A/G Estate Lack of power when engine cold, and outside temperatures very cold - on one ocassion car would not go more than about 30 mph. Car was tested by MB dealer and no fault found - they offerred to replace the turbo, but we agreed to defer this in the hope that problem could recurr and be properly investigated - but did not reocurr. Complete lack of heating - had to drive 150 miles in freezing conditions with no heater. Fault caused by sticking valve, which has been replaced. Tailgate has feature to allow partial opening (to prevent it hitting obstuctions in garage roof) - but this often sticks, holding the tailgate part open when fullopening is desired. Though it can be pushed fully open it has caused several bumped/scraped heads. Dealer supposedly ordered the required part weeks ago, but no word yet. There is a small storgae compartment hidden behind panel on centre console, with button operated electric opening/closing. Entire panel stopped functioning - including hazard flashers, rear window wash/wipe, and opening mechanism, thus trapping contents (my mobile phone) inside. Dealer took 1hr 50 mins to say this was due to computer fault, and they are unable to fix it for 2 weeks.
Vehicle_Model: E320CDI Windscreen does full wipe at drivers side,50mm strip left unswept at pillar. Vehicle also pulls to left at slow speed
Vehicle_Model: E320 CDI Intermittant fault which cuts all power to the engine casuing it to stop whilst driving. It has occurred at 20mph as well as 70mph so is independant of speed. Warning comes up on dashboard "El. Power Control failure. EPC. Took it to the dealers who reset the malfunction and sent me on my way, only for it to re-occur. Now with a different dealer! Vehicle_Model: E320 CDI Turbo and kick-down stopped working, performance half what it was. Vehicle_Model: E320 CDi Steering pulling to the left - causing excessive tyre wear - Mercedes having difficulty re-setting within acceptable tolerances Vehicle_Model: E320CDI Windscreen repeatedly cracking from small stone chips. Vehicle_Model: E320 CDi Computer warning system continually wars the Braking System and Traction Control System has failed - warning can be cleared by turning engine off and back on again. Dealer has looked at the problem twice but remains a problem. Vehicle_Model: E320 5DR ESTATE 3.2 CDi ELEGANCE AUTO Poor performance of windscreen washers and Parktronic indicator malfunctioning.
Vehicle_Model: CLK 320 Cabrio Car generally very good but let down by poor quality alloy wheels. Lacquer moves away from wheel surface producing an unsightly appearance - particularly bad where balance weights are fitted. I had the wheels refurbished after 18 months (can only be done to all silver - original two
tone effect cannot be reproduced) but they are deteriorating again after a further 12 months. Mercedes will not admit that there is a problem.
Vehicle_Model: CLK Convertible Heating / cooling system is not working properly. sometime the small wheel (cold, warm, very warm) is on cold and it becomes warm and sometime it is very cold (like if the A/C was on). Mercedes don't recognise the fault. CD player given with the car (single CD player) is not working very well and does not go easily from one track to another (sometime it ends up in a middle of the next song). Vehicle_Model: CLK 230 K 6 months old and 6000 miles on the clock, the electric seat fails for the second time. First problem was seat locked and refused to fold forward, impossible to gain access to the rear seats. Now the seat back will recline but refuse to move forward.making the driving position interesting. Overall, not impressed. Vehicle_Model: CLK 230 Komp Corrosion around rubber seal to boot release mechanism on 2 1/2 year old vehicle Vehicle_Model: CLK-Cabriolet-3.2 Rattles horribly despite 3 returns to dealer-roof and fascia. Electric windows do not work consistently. Due for 4th attempt to fix soon. Vehicle_Model: CLK 320 Cabriolet Automatic windows have a tendency to 'pop' open when closed on automatic (opening door, closing window, closing door is a fix) Automatic roof is at times very stiff in opening an can fail to open (or close) Vehicle_Model: SLK200 Retracting roof micro switches fail in hot weather. ESP (traction control) and ABS system failure. Wheel Lacquer lifting after 11 months. Vehicle_Model: SLK 230 Both front fog lights have moisture drops on the inside of the lenses. This is the first occurence for the offside but the third occurance for the nearside lamp. Either MB are supplying faulty spares or the dealer is not carrying out a careful reassembly. Vehicle_Model: SLK 230 Kompressor ESP warning light did not fade after the initial check when turning the ignition. Intermittent fault. Unit replaced twice before fault resolved. Vehicle_Model: SLK 230 Leather steering wheel stitching is coming undone and Leather upholstery on drivers seat badly scuffed. LCD display on Blaupunkt New Yorker radio/CD is faulty - vertical lines. Although out of warranaty (only one year on radios, Bosch have agreed to repair foc if returned to their repair agency Vehicle_Model: SLK 320 Radio reception appalling - dealer confirms common weakness on the SLK. Vehicle suffered total electronics failure. Nothing could be done as the dealer was unable to obtain any reading on the vehicle's diagnostic system. The secondary problem is that with this total shutdown the breakdown service were unable to move the transmission from "park" and are having to dispatch a specialist recovery vehicle.
Vehicle_Model: ML 320 Electric window switch : After 14 mths/14000 miles the console switch for the left front window failed. After 17 mths/17000 miles the console switch for the right front window failed. In both cases the switch required replacement. The repair/cost is minor, but the irritation of having the window fail without warning in the lowered position is significant. Obvious concern now is that there are 6 more switches (4 for windows, 2 for other accessories) of identical or very similar design and I fully expect these to progressively fail in the coming months. Vehicle_Model: ML270CDi Faults in 1st year - replace circuit board in climate control system (only blowing cold), replace ABS warning sensor (intermittent alarm), replace front seat squabs twice (surface splitting and peeling), replace auto box hydraulic control valve (box stuck in emergency mode), replace throttle cable (very stiff) Vehicle_Model: S320CDI (EUIV) Excessive Fuel Consumption: Achieving approx 60% at best of quoted figures. Erratic - sudden rapid increases for no apparent reason. Dealer/M-B trying to resolve unsuccessfully after 3 months and 10+ attempts. Numerous Electrical Problems: Engine management going into "limp home mode" (30 mph, no power); seems comon problem with this engine. Total loss of all audio functions. Assyst headlights and wipers that have mind of their own - on when you don't need them and vice-versa. Passenger seat that moves of its own accord. Spurious lamp failure messages with no apparent faults. Sat nav that insist in taking you wrong way down M-way slip lanes or down private (gated and locked driveways) roads. All of the above seem to disappear (for a short time) after the software has been re-booted by switching off, removing the keys and then running re-starting procedure.
