Was really disappointed in this camera, wanted good image stabilization. But get a lot of blurry photos, especially indoor photos. This is a great little compact camera. Looks very cool. There is no viewfinder, but the LCD screen shows up very well in bright outdoor light.

I replace my sansung camera for this one. and i see that nikon makes good cameras my camera takes pictures very nice. and the batery last a lot. Very easy to use for those like my wife have shaky hands. Does some great pictures for those that are not very knowledgeable about digital cameras.

this camera does in fact work great in low lighting..you just have to go to the right setting... This is a wonderful camera and I recommend you buy it.

I have used many point and shoot cameras in lat few years personally. I do use Digital SLR. But Let me tell yo this tiny little camera has potential.

If you are a traveler and casual photog. this is for you. Good in Low Light","Great Zoom","Nice Body Color Poor Flash I thought I was just ordering the camera itself, but when it arrived it came with a case, a stylus, and a 2 year extended service plan!!!

I am very happy with this purchase Easy To Use","Fast/accurate auto-focus","Good Image Quality","Good Image Stabilization","Good in Low Light". This was a replacement for my Nikon Coolpix S230 which I gave to my sister-in-law(since she liked it so much). Better screen, higher resoliution.

Upgrading the Firmware for the

Windows

Thank you for choosing a Nikon product. This guide describes how to upgrade the firmware for the COOLPIX S4000 digital camera. If you are not confident that you can perform the update successfully, the update can be performed by a Nikon service representative. Important The camera may be damaged if power is interrupted or camera controls are operated during the update. Do not turn the camera off, remove or disconnect the power source, or operate camera controls during the update. If the update is not completed successfully and the camera becomes inoperable, take the camera to a Nikon-authorized service representative for inspection.

Get ready

To upgrade the camera firmware, you will need: The camera A computer equipped with an SD card reader or card slot One of the following power sources: An EH-62D AC adapter

A fully-charged EN-EL10 rechargeable Li-ion battery A Nikon-approved memory card that has been formatted in the camera (note that formatting permanently deletes any data the card may contain; be sure to back up any important files to a computer before formatting the card) s Manual The camera User
Check the current camera firmware version
Turn the camera on. Tap to display the menus and tap the (setup) icon.
The setup menu will be displayed in the camera monitor. Tap and to display Firmware version and tap to select.
The current firmware version will be displayed. This upgrade can be used with firmware version 1.0.
Exit to the Set up menu and turn the camera off.

Download and extract the new firmware
Right-click an empty area of the desktop and select New > Folder from the menu that appears. Name the new folder as desired.
Right-click the I agree - Begin download link on the download site and select Save Target As. Save the file to the folder created in Step 3-1. Open the folder created in Step 3-1 and double-click the downloaded F-S4000V11W.exe file to extract the following files to an S4000Update folder in the new folder:

Copy the firmware to the memory card
The firmware can be copied to the camera memory card using a computer equipped with a card reader or card slot.
Insert a formatted memory card in the card reader or card slot. If Nikon Transfer is installed, it may start automatically; select Exit from the File menu to exit Nikon Transfer.

Windows 7/Windows Vista Under Windows 7/Windows Vista, an AutoPlay dialog may be displayed. Click.
Windows XP Under Windows XP, a Removable Disk dialog may be displayed. Click Cancel.
The memory card will appear in Computer (Windows 7/Windows Vista) or My Computer (Windows XP) as a removable disk. Copy the firmware folder from the S4000Update folder to the removable disk.

S4000Update folder When copying is complete, open the firmware folder on the removable disk and confirm that it contains the file firmware.bin.
Right click the removable disk and select Eject from the menu that appears. Remove the memory card from the card reader or card slot.
Update the camera firmware
During the update, do not: Remove the memory card Turn the camera off Unplug or disconnect the AC adapter Remove the battery Subject the camera to powerful electromagnetic noise Any of the above actions could cause the camera to become inoperable.

Insert the memory card containing the firmware into the camera memory card slot. Turn the camera on. Tap to display the menus and tap the (setup) icon.

A firmware update dialog will be displayed. Tap Yes to begin the update.
The message shown at right will be displayed while the update is in progress.

Confirm that the update was completed successfully. 6-1.Turn the camera off and remove the memory card. 6-2.Check the camera firmware version as described in Step 2, Check the current camera firmware version. 6-3.If the version displayed is 1.1, the update was successful.
If the update was not successful, contact a Nikon service representative.
Format the memory card. This completes the firmware update.
