OKI Printing Solutions B420dn OKI Printing Solutions B430dn 30ppm Sum-up: Versatile small-to-midsize workgroup printers. These new black-and-white printers combine low cost with high 30ppm printing. They offer basic functionality for small-to-midsize workgroup printing while offering an outstanding duty cycle in their category (rated by OKI Printing Solutions at 70,000 pages per month). Both models come with standard duplexing. The B420dn and B430dn offer a 7,000-page toner cartridge, and the B420dn also offers a 10,000-page cartridge. Accounting for toner and drum, we estimate consumables pricing to be around 2.0 cents for the B420dn and B430dn models. These costs are not out of line for this level of the market.
These models are powered by a 297MHz processor, and they all have an excellent 5.5second first-page-out time. The B420dn model prints at up to 2,400 x 600dpi resolution, while the B430dn has a native resolution of 1,200dpi. The B420dn models start with 32MB of memory, which can be upgraded to 288MB. The B430dn starts with 64MB, expandable to 320MB. The models in this series are:
OKI has added speed and a few features to its B400 line while keeping prices reasonable. Delivering enhanced speed, impressive firstpage-out time, standard PCL printing (with additional PostScript for the B430dn model), standard duplexing, and above average paper capacity at its price level, the B420dn and B430dn deserves your attention. Both models can support an optional 530sheet second drawer ($229). Thus, the B430dn has a maximum capacity of 830 sheets, while the B420dn has a maximum capacity of 1,110 sheets. On the output side, there is a standard 150-sheet face-down tray along with 50-sheet face-up tray as an option.

OKI Printing Solutions sells its machines through valueadded resellers and the mass discount market. The warranties run for one year, except that the LED printheads are covered for five years.
Smart Forms Solution: OKI is aggressively marketing two versions of its B6300 models by bundling software from a company named Objectif Lune. The idea is to offer a userfriendly business-forms solution married with PostScriptcapable printers to provide better transactional printing and improved workflow automation. OKI refers to models bundled with this software as its Smart Forms Solution. In addition to the B6300n model, OKI offers a duplexing model that comes only with some version of the software package (listed as the B6300dn Smart Forms Solution model on the companys website). OKI is acting as a reseller, and Objectif Lune is setting prices for these bundled products based on the specific software modules buyers choose.

The company used to characterize itself as a no-frills provider of low-cost network printers and didnt compete in the higher end of the office printer market. But now OKI, like other brands, sells printers across the range, up to 50ppm.
Nevertheless, OKI Printing Solutions has come out this year with a plethora of low-cost desktop and small-workgroup printers, offering a comprehensive set of choices in this segment.
