| I have had the opportunity to use many digital cameras from high end Nikons to Canons to an old Olympus e20. The olympus E volt 420 has asmall grip, harder to hold to,especially for larger hands.. | |

| Why bother with this brand when there are so many nice Canons and Nikons? That is what I finally decided after buying this and trying it for a week. | |

Olympus E-420 Digital SLR
The worlds smallest digital SLR is here.
Banish spots forever.
The Olympus Dust Reduction System is an industry first and a proven technology. Every time you turn on the E-420, a Supersonic Wave Filter silently vibrates at an astonishing 30,000 times a second. Dust is blasted away, ensuring spot-free photos every time. You can take full advantage of a digital SLR and change lenses without worrying about dust ruining your pictures.
Beautiful photos fast.
The E-420 features our TruePic III image processor that provides quick start-up, blazing write speeds and a burst shooting rate of 3.5 fps. In addition to increasing speed, the TruePic III chip minimizes graininess, enhances detail, generates rich, accurate color and ensures smooth color transitions. Shadow Adjustment Technology increases the images dynamic range and brings out details obscured by shadows for brighter photos.
Lenses built to be digital specific.
Olympus offers the largest selection of lenses more than 20 specifically made for digital photography. All of the award-winning Zuiko Digital lenses are compatible with the E-420. These precision-crafted lenses are perfectly matched to work with the cameras image sensor so every pixel is exposed. The result? Photos with bright, accurate colors and uncompromising sharpness from one edge of your image to the other that traditional film lenses cant deliver.
Full featured doesnt have to mean full sized. Introducing the 10.1 megapixel Olympus E-420. This incredibly compact, lightweight camera is ideal for everyday use and has all the performance of a world-class digital SLR. The E-420s intuitive operation and advanced technology ensure youll always capture stunning, beautiful photos in any situation.
Olympus developed Live View. Now were evolving it.
Take photos with the E-420 the same way you do with a digital compact camera. Live View offers real-time live viewing of your subject on a high-contrast, high-resolution 2.7 HyperCrystal II LCD screen for effortless viewing even in bright, direct sunlight. Live View lets you shoot high- and low-angle shots with ease, plus helps you capture spontaneous shots. With the E-420, you can now Auto Focus within the Live View mode. It works seamlessly and instantly through the shutter button to ensure a clear shot every time.
Now with Face Detection technology.
The E-420s Face Detection feature works with Live View to track up to eight faces in a frame, then automatically focuses and optimizes the exposure for brilliant pictures. Just imagine, perfectly clear, sharp faces in every picture you take.
Pick a scene mode. Take a perfect shot.
With the E-420, youre just one scene mode away from taking the perfect picture. Youll find 18 scene modes everything from Fireworks to Sport to Beach & Snow so you can perfectly capture all those tricky shots.

Follow your intuition.
A camera for a mobile world.
The easiest things in life are self-explanatory. Olympus designed the E-420 with this principle in mind. If youre often on the go, you have to choose your equipment accordingly. It must be small, ergonomic and easy to use. Needless to say, this is also what you look for in a camera thats with you at every turn. The E-420 is the rst camera designed to combine the features of a sophisticated D-SLR with the needs of todays mobile society. Its the ideal companion for travellers, journalists and todays urban adventurers. box. You dont even have to spend time becoming familiar with the cameras functions rst. Right from the start, the E-420 is simply intuitive to use. The buttons are right beneath your ngers, and the ergonomic body is designed to t perfectly in your hands.
Perfect overview of all settings.
Even if you decide not to use the cameras automatic settings and would rather congure your own parameters for a picture, all the information you need is always right before your eyes thanks to the clear display on the cameras LCD. You can choose between a basic and detailed views.
Just start shooting.
The E-420 is designed to let you start taking great pictures right away, without special photography skills. The E-420 gives you 18 scene select modes that offer the ideal camera settings for virtually any lighting mood or situation. A perfect preview of your picture.
The autofocus Live View function incorporated in the E-420 lets you compose pictures using the LCD, as you would with a compact digital camera. Thanks to this feature, you always have a perfect preview of your subject. It allows you to see whether youve chosen the right angle for your shot and shows you in real-time on which parts of the subject the camera is focusing. With the HyperCrystal II LCD, you have constant control of exposure and white balance, and can also set the colour saturation and contrast of the display.
Accurate pictures even in difcult situations.
Thanks to two technical innovations, the E-420 lets you take perfect pictures even in the most challenging lighting conditions. The camera automatically detects deep shadows in your picture and compensates by brightening these areas (Shadow Adjustment Technology). In addition, with Face Detection Technology, the E-420 guarantees accurate pictures with its ability to recognise up to eight faces while automatically focusing and optimising exposure.
Brilliant colours on the LCD.
The E-420s large 6.9 cm HyperCrystal II LCD gives you clear, realistic previews with brilliant colours. Colour changes are also visible on the LCD. With a viewing angle of 176 degrees, the LCD can be viewed from virtually any angle, and you are free to compose your shot without having to look through the viewnder. This means you can shoot from almost any position, whether from over your head, from the ground or around a corner, without losing sight of your subject.
The E-420s large 6.9 cm HyperCrystal II LCD allows you to track all the cameras settings.
Without Shadow Adjustment Technology.
Without Face Detection.
Get up close without straining yourself. With Live View, you can take pictures from the ground up without having to hold the viewnder to your eye.
Shadow Adjustment Technology brightens dim areas of the image so they appear naturally lit.
With Face Detection, each face is perfectly in focus.

Get a picture of the future.
Answers to the questions of tomorrow.
When you choose a digital SLR today, you want more than just the perfect equipment. You also need to know how well the cameras system will stand the test of time. With the E-420, Olympus offers an excellent solution for both these demands. are currently more than 30 Four Thirds lenses to choose from for the E-420, and more will follow, all meeting the highest professional standards.
Change lenses as often as you want.
Even if you use many different lenses, the E-420 is ideally equipped. A highly effective dust protection system protects the camera from dust entering the body when you change lenses. This feature gives you the freedom to change lenses as often as you want without having to worry about dust ruining your pictures.
A new standard in digital photography.
Like all other D-SLRs in the E-System family, the E-420 is based on the Four Thirds Standard. This is a uniform technical standard agreed upon and supported by numerous renowned manufacturers. Because all cameras and lenses in the Four Thirds System are compatible with each other, the E-420 is a future-proof camera. There
More compact cameras and better image quality.
Thanks to the Four Thirds System, the E-420 is signicantly more compact than its competitors and fully tailored to the needs of digital photography. The system guarantees maximum sharpness and brightness over the entire image and improves communication between the camera and lens. These are advantages you can see and feel: the cameras as well as the lenses are smaller and lighter without compromising image quality.
