| The camera is rugged and tough. It can be used outdoors in inclement weather without fear of damage but you must also have a weatherproofed lens. | |

x Camera Characteristics
Features a 23.515.7 mm CCD with approximately 10.2 million effective pixels for high precision and a wide dynamic range. Features Shake Reduction (SR), an image sensor shifting shake reduction system. This enables you to capture sharp pictures with minimal camera shake regardless of the lens type. Features an AF sensor with 11 focusing points. The central 9 are wide cross area sensors. Features a viewfinder similar to that of a conventional 35 mm camera, with a magnification of approximately 0.85 and field of view of approximately 96%, for easier manual focusing. Also features a superimpose function in which the AF points on the viewfinder illuminate red. Features a large 2.7-inch monitor with approximately 230,000 dots, a wide viewing angle and brightness adjusting function for high-precision viewing performance. Uses AA lithium batteries, rechargeable AA Ni-MH batteries or AA alkaline batteries. A user-friendly design has been implemented in various parts of the camera. The large text, high-contrast monitor and easy-to-use menus make the camera easier to operate. Dials, buttons, body joints, and retractable parts of the camera are splash and dust resistant. The CCD features a special SP coating against dust deposit. The Dust Removal function also shakes the CCD for removing collected dust. Supports the optional Battery Grip D-BG3 with the vertical shutter release button. If batteries are inserted in both the camera and grip, the battery set with more power is prioritized. This enables you to get the best camera performance for an extended period. A menu item also allows you to prioritize a battery set and use its full power before switching to the other. Features Custom Image which allows you to adjust settings while previewing the edited image, enabling a wider range of expression. Records in the versatile JPEG format or the high quality and fully editable RAW format. You can also select JPEG+RAW and record in both formats. Pictures taken in RAW format can be easily processed internally by the camera. Features Hyper-program and Hyper-manual modes that let you take pictures flexibly with the intended exposure. Also features Sensitivity Priority mode K that automatically adjusts aperture and shutter speed according to the set sensitivity.
The captured area (view angle) will differ between the x and 35 mm SLR cameras even if the same lens is used because the format size for 35 mm film and CCD are different. Sizes for 35 mm film and CCD 35 mm film x CCD : 3624 mm : 23.515.7 mm
Angles of view being equal, the focal length of a lens used with a 35 mm camera must be approximately 1.5 times longer than that of x. To obtain an angle of view framing the same area, divide the focal length of the 35 mm lens by 1.5. Example) To capture the same image as a 150 mm lens attached to a 35 mm camera 1501.5=100 Use a 100 mm lens with the x. Inversely, multiply the focal length of the lens used with x by 1.5 to determine the focal length for 35 mm cameras. Example) If 300 mm lens is used with x 3001.5=450 Focal length is equivalent to a 450 mm lens on a 35 mm camera.
Shake Reduction (SR)
Shake Reduction (SR) on the x features a PENTAX original system which uses magnetic force to move the image sensor at high speeds, compensating camera shake. The camera may generate some operating noise when it is shaken, such as when changing the composition of a picture. It is not a malfunction.

The picture storage capacity (normal recording and flash use 50%) is based on measuring conditions in accordance with CIPA standards and the others are based on PENTAX measuring conditions. Some deviation from the above figures may occur in actual use depending on shooting mode and shooting conditions.
Battery performance temporarily decreases as the temperature decreases. When using the camera in cold climates, have extra batteries on hand and keep them warm in your pocket. Battery performance will return to normal when returned to room temperature. Have extra batteries ready when traveling overseas, taking pictures in cold climates, or when you will be taking a lot of pictures.
Using the AC Adapter (Optional)
We recommend using the AC adapter D-AC76 (optional) when using the monitor for a long time or when connecting to your PC.
Make sure the camera is turned off before opening the terminal cover. Connect the DC terminal on the AC adapter to the DC input terminal on the camera. Connect the AC plug cord to the AC adapter. Plug the AC cord into the power outlet.
Make sure the camera is turned off before connecting or disconnecting the AC adapter. Make sure connections are secure between the camera, AC adapter, AC plug cord terminal and the power outlet. SD Memory Card and data will be corrupted if disconnected while camera is recording or reading data. Be sure to read the AC adapter D-AC76 Operating Manual when using the AC adapter. The rechargeable batteries in your camera will not charge when connected to the AC adapter.
Inserting/Removing the SD Memory Card
This camera uses either an SD Memory Card or an SDHC Memory Card. (Both cards are referred to as SD Memory Cards hereafter.) Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the SD Memory Card (market product).
Do not remove the SD Memory Card while the card access lamp is lit. Use this camera to format (initialize) an SD Memory Card that is unused or has been used on other cameras or digital devices. Refer to Formatting the SD Memory Card (p.203) for details on formatting.
Slide the card cover in the direction of the arrow (1) and then lift open (2).
Insert the card all the way with the SD Memory Card label toward the monitor.
Push the SD Memory Card in once to remove.
Close the card cover (1) and then slide it in the direction of the arrow (2).
Recorded Pixels and Quality Level
When the File Format is JPEG
Choose the number of pixels (size) and quality level (JPEG data compression rate) of pictures according to how you intend to use the pictures you have taken. Pictures with larger recorded pixels or more Es are clearer when printed. The number of pictures that can be taken (the number of pictures that can be recorded on an SD Memory Card) decreases with larger file sizes. The quality of the captured photo or printed picture depends on the quality level, exposure control, resolution of the printer and a variety of other factors so you do not need to select more than the required number of pixels. For example, to print in postcard size, i (18241216) is adequate. Set the appropriate recorded size and quality level depending on purpose. Choose the appropriate number of recorded pixels and quality level for JPEG images on the [A Rec. Mode] menu. 1 Setting the JPEG Recorded Pixels (p.146) 1 Setting the JPEG Quality Level (p.147) JPEG Recorded Pixels, JPEG Quality and Approximate Image Storage Capacity
JPEG Quality
JPEG Rec. Pixels
(38722592) (30082000) (18241216)
C Best 902
D Better 1549
E Good 2627
The above table shows the approximate image storage capacity when using a 1 GB SD Memory Card. The above figures may vary depending on the subject, shooting conditions, shooting mode and SD Memory Card, etc.
When the number of storable images exceeds 500, captured images are divided into folders of 500 images each. However, in Auto Bracket shooting, images will be stored in the same folder until shooting is completed, even if the number of images exceeds 500.
When the File Format is RAW
With x, you can record in the versatile JPEG format or the high quality and editable RAW format. For RAW file format, you can select the PENTAX original PEF format or general-purpose DNG (Digital Negative) format designed by Adobe Systems. On a 1 GB SD Memory Card, you can record up to 58 images in PEF format or DNG format. 1Setting the File Format (p.148)
Press the shutter release button halfway.
The built-in flash pops up if necessary and begins charging. When the flash is fully charged, b appears in the LCD panel and viewfinder. (p.27, p.29)
Switch between Auto discharge mode and Flash On mode by pressing the K button while the built-in flash is popped up. If Auto discharge is set, E appears on the LCD panel.
Push down on the portion indicated in the illustration to retract the flash.
Using Flash On Mode b, D
Press the K button.
The built-in flash pops up and begins charging. Flash On mode is used regardless of the flash mode settings. When the flash is fully charged, b appears in the LCD panel and viewfinder. (p.27, p.29)
When Flash mode is set to g or i and you pop up the built-in flash, you can switch between Auto discharge mode and Flash On mode by pressing the K button under the following conditions. Shooting mode is set to I, =, s, q, \, or. H mode is set to i, K, C, or E.
The flash discharges and the picture is taken.
Push the flash down to retract.
Using Red-eye Reduction Flash
Red-eye is the phenomenon where eyes look reddish in photographs taken in dark environments with a flash. This is caused by the reflection of the electronic flash in the retina of the eye. Red-eye occurs because pupils are dilated in dark environments. This phenomenon cannot be averted but the following measures can be used to combat it. Brighten the surroundings when shooting. Set to wide angle and move closer to the subject if a zoom lens is in use. Use a flash that supports red-eye reduction. Position the flash as far away from the camera as possible when using an external flash. The red-eye reduction function on this camera reduces red-eye by discharging the flash twice. With the red-eye reduction function, the pre-flash is discharged just before the shutter is released. This reduces pupil dilation. The main flash is then discharged while the pupils are smaller, reducing the red-eye effect. To use the red-eye reduction function in Picture mode or H mode, select D (Auto flash+Redeye reduct) or F (Flash On+Red-eye). Set to F (Flash On+Red-eye) in other modes.
Daylight-Sync Shooting
In daylight conditions, the flash will eliminate shadows when a portrait picture is taken with a persons face cast in shadow. Use of the flash in this way is called Daylight-Sync Shooting. Flash On is used when shooting with Daylight-Sync Shooting. Taking pictures (Auto Picture mode) 1 Pop up the flash manually and confirm that the flash mode is set to E (Flash On). (p.65) 2 Confirm that the flash is fully charged. 3 Take the picture.
Using the c (Aperture Priority) Mode
Set aperture for controlling the depth of field. The depth of field is deeper and the front and back of the focused object is clear when aperture is set to a large value. The depth of field is shallower and the front and back of the focused object is blurred when aperture is set to a small value. Shutter speed is automatically set to appropriate exposure depending on the aperture value. 1Effect of Aperture and Shutter Speed (p.81)
Set the mode dial to c.
Turn the e-dial and adjust the aperture value.
Turn the e-dial while pressing the mc button to change the EV compensation value. (p.100) Set the aperture value in increments of 1/2 EV or 1/3 EV. Set in [1. EV Steps] in the [A Custom Setting] menu. (p.101) You can automatically correct the sensitivity if appropriate exposure cannot be set with the set criteria. Set [Sensitivity] to [AUTO] in the Fn menu. (p.83) When using a lens with an aperture ring, set the aperture to the s position while holding down the auto-lock button on the lens.
If the subject is too bright or too dark, the shutter speed will blink in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel. If the subject is too bright, set the aperture smaller (larger number), and when too dark, open the aperture further (smaller number). Once blinking stops, you can take the picture with the proper exposure. Use an ND (Neutral Density) filter if the subject is too bright. Use a flash if it is too dark.
Using a (Manual) Mode
You can set the shutter speed and aperture value. This mode is suitable to take pictures of your choice by combining them. This mode is convenient for taking pictures using the same combination of the shutter speed and aperture settings or taking intentionally underexposed (darker) or over-exposed (brighter) photographs. 1 Effect of Aperture and Shutter Speed (p.81)
Set the mode dial to a.
Turn the e-dial while pressing the mc button and adjust the aperture.
The shutter speed and aperture value are displayed in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel. Of the shutter speed and aperture value, the value being adjusted is underlined in the viewfinder. While adjusting the shutter speed or aperture value, the difference from the appropriate exposure (EV value) appears in the viewfinder. The appropriate exposure is set when [0.0] is displayed.
Difference from the appropriate exposure
When the sensitivity is set to [AUTO] and exposure mode is set to a (Manual) mode, the sensitivity is set to a value equivalent to ISO 100 if the Dynamic Range is set to [Off] and ISO 200 if set to [On]. Set the shutter speed and aperture values in increments of 1/2 EV or 1/3 EV. Set in [1. EV Steps] in the [A Custom Setting] menu. (p.101) When using a lens with an aperture ring, set the aperture to the s position while holding down the auto-lock button on the lens.
The operating distance of the remote control unit is about 5 m from the front of the camera. For h, the shutter will be released immediately after the shutter release button is pressed. For i, the shutter will be released in three seconds after the shutter release button is pressed. After the picture is taken, the self-timer lamp lights for 2 seconds and then returns to blinking.
Exposure may be affected if light enters the viewfinder. Attach the provided ME viewfinder cap or use the AE lock function (p.101). (The light entering the viewfinder has no effect on the exposure when the exposure mode is set to a (Manual) (p.94).)
Select a setting other than hor i in the [Drive Mode] screen to stop the remote control operation after it has been activated. The setting is canceled when the camera is turned off if [Drive Mode] in [Memory] (p.217) of [A Rec. Mode] menu is set to P (Off). The Shake Reduction function is automatically turned off when hor i is set. The remote control may not operate in backlit conditions. The remote control does not work while the flash is being charged. The remote control unit battery can send a remote control signal about 30,000 times. Contact PENTAX Service Center to replace the battery (this will involve a fee).
Using Mirror Up Function to Prevent Camera Shake
Use the Mirror Up function if camera shake is evident even when cable switch (optional) or remote control unit (optional) is used with a tripod. When shooting with the 2 sec. Self-Timer, the mirror pops up and the shutter is released 2 seconds after you press it, thereby avoiding the vibration of the mirror. Follow the procedure below to take a picture with the Mirror Up function.
Mount the camera onto a tripod. In the Drive Mode, select Z (2 sec. Self-Timer).
1Self-Timer Shooting (p.117)
The mirror pops up and the picture is taken 2 seconds later. AE lock is enabled with the exposure value set immediately before the mirror goes up.
The Shake Reduction function is automatically turned off when shooting with the 2 sec. Self-Timer.

K-mount Heritage
PENTAX has manufactured over 24 million lenses in the last six decades. For every assignment, we believe there needs to be a lens that matches each photographers style amateur and professional alike. PENTAX DSLR bodies offer backward compatibility with each and every one of these lenses.* Choose from our assortment of new DAH, DA Limited and DA lenses specifically designed for use with PENTAX digital SLRs or pull a favorite PENTAX lens from the camera bag. Whichever lens is used, whether the most recent lenses or a classic screw mount, it will faithfully capture the image desired. *With adapter for screw mount and 645/67 lenses. solves one of the oldest photographic problems: blur caused by handheld camera shake. The K Series Digital SLRs produce sharp photos in challenging situations without having to use a tripod. Hand-held photography is now possible with long telephoto lenses or when long exposure times are required due to poor lighting. The PENTAX Shake Reduction system is integrated into the camera body and is independent of the lens in use. The system ensures that at the moment of exposure the compensating movement of the image sensor provides blur-free pictures. The advantage is obvious: you may increase your handheld shooting by 2.5 to 4 stops. PENTAX owns over 30 patents for the SR system, which uses a ball-bearing-mounted oscillator unit with four electromagnets that position the free-floating image sensor. Angular velocity sensors detect camera movement and relay the amount of compensation necessary to the electromagnets that move the sensor to compensate for any shake.

SDM Lens Compatibility
PENTAX DAH Series
K-mount compatibility extends to the high performance smc PENTAX DAH series of lenses. The PENTAX-DAH series delivers the highest level of optical quality and reflects the PENTAX commitment to deliver the ultimate images in digital photography. Bringing together advanced optical technologies, special optical-glass elements and original lens coatings, these interchangeable lenses are superior in terms of contrast, clarity and edge-to-edge sharpness. Each PENTAX DAH series lens feature a tightly sealed, weather-resistant and dust-resistant construction to enhance durability for use in rain or dusty conditions making each a perfect companion for the weather-sealed PENTAX digital SLR. The lenses also feature the PENTAX original Quick-Shift Focus System for instant switching to manual focus operation and PENTAX original SP (Super Protect) coating to repel dust, water and grease. A new SDM system has been incorporated for smoother, quieter autofocus operation using a built-in supersonic motor.
Prime image Processing
The Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) was developed specifically by PENTAX for our cameras in order to meet the performance requirements of higher resolution sensors. The PRIME engine converts the digital signal into the image you desire by assuring truer color tones, a wider dynamic range, and natural looking high ISO images. Ultimately, PRIME provides beautiful, natural results similar to what you see shooting with film. By allowing
Compatibility with SDM lenses that offer silent, accurate auto focus and weather resistance.
customization of the image, the advanced circuitry frees you to focus on the image and capture the perfect shot.
Custom Image Modes
The Custom Image modes on the K20D and K200D give you superior control of how the PRIME processor develops images. These modes apply saturation, hue, contrast and sharpness settings to JPEG images, and give a starting point for RAW image development. There is a choice of six Custom Image modes which include: Bright gives increased saturation, hue, sharpness and contrast for images that are a bit more elaborate or colorful straight from the camera. Natural makes no adjustment to image parameters. This is perfect for photographers who want to maximize an image for post capture manipulation. Portrait decreases contrast and sharpness to give soft, natural skin tones. Landscape increases saturation, contrast and sharpness for beautiful images of the natural world. Vibrant maximizes all parameters to give the brightest colors and enhanced sharpness for the most vivid scenes. B&W mimics the effects of black and white photography, including the effects of color filters. It even adds an infra red filter effect for dramatic monochrome scenes. Plus, each of the Custom Image modes can be further modified to meet your needs. All settings are clearly displayed on the LCD screen with a radar display showing how the settings affect each color.
Custom White Balance
The advanced white balance options of the K20D and K200D allow the perfect capture of the color white. The white balance setting can be selected from seven pre-set options, with three options just for fluorescent lighting, plus a manual white balance setting, and three preset color temperatures. Additionally, each setting can be further fine-tuned to balance even the most difficult lighting conditions. All settings can be verified through the digital preview function.
Adjustable High Sensitivity Noise Reduction
As the sensitivity increases with any camera, so does the possibility of noise. While every effort has been made to minimize the effect of noise, some conditions demand additional noise reduction. However, once noise reduction has been applied to an image, it cannot be reversed. PENTAX bodies give the ability to apply four levels of noise reduction to meet your needs, from no adjustment to strong control of noise.
In-camera Processing
PENTAX DSLR bodies offer an in-camera RAW converter for those times you want to print an image but dont have access to a computer to process the RAW file. The resolution, quality setting, white balance, sensitivity, Custom Image mode, and Noise Reduction may all be adjusted, and the image can be saved either as a JPEG or, new to the K20D and K200D, an 8-bit TIFF file.
Digital Preview
Always know your results before you shoot. The Digital Preview feature allows you to see the shot before actually tripping the shutter release, thus allowing you to verify the camera settings. And now, should your preview happen to be a winning shot, you can save the image as a JPEG file.
Dust/Weather Resistant
Protection From The Elements
Whether youre shooting in a misty, tropical rain forest, on a snowcapped peak, or along a dusty desert trail, the seals around the durable PENTAX DSLR bodies reliably protect the inner components against humidity, moisture and dust particles. The fiber-reinforced polycarbonate body surrounding the high-rigidity, stainless steel chassis provides plenty of strength for every day use. A complete system: the K20D is protected by 72 seals and the optional battery grip with an additional 38 seals, while the K200D has 60 seals in the body and 14 in the grip, assuring complete protection against humidity, dust or sand. PENTAX offers the highest level of protection in either class. Durable and solid: the stainless-steel chassis is also impermeable to corrosion and is extremely stable.
Dust Removal
Behind the Dust Removal designation lays an entire system unto itself. The surface of the low pass filter is sealed with a nanotechnology based fluorine coating. This ensures that dust has a difficult time adhering to the sensor surface. Dust that may remain on the surface is shaken off when the SR system shifts the CCD at high speed. The dust that is shaken off the CCD, then falls onto an adhesive sheet eliminating any possibility of its returning to the CCD surface. Dust flecks are now a thing of the past, along with annoying and time consuming retouching work.
Dust Alert
Occasionally, especially when shooting in humid conditions, the Dust Removal system will not purge all dust specks. If you are shooting in extremely dusty or dirty conditions, the new Dust Alert system will save you from time consuming retouching. This system analyzes the sensor to determine if and where any dust remains after the Dust Removal system is activated. The results are displayed on the LCD screen, showing exactly where any dust remains. The image is reversed so you can quickly pinpoint and remove dust from the sensor itself.
11-point Auto Focus
The K-Series features an 11-point autofocus system. In automatic operation (AUTO) the camera recognizes which object is nearest and chooses that object as the main focus point. For more direct control, select any of the 11 points individually. It is also possible to simply select the center of the image as your main point of focus. With continuous autofocus, the focus adjusts as your subject moves within the frame, or should you prefer more direct control, you may always focus manually.
Flexible RAW Button
The RAW button on PENTAX DSLR bodies allows you to quickly change your file format while shooting without having to navigate through an extensive series of menus. You may customize this button to switch to your preferred format and to either remain at that setting, or remain there for only one exposure.
16-segment Metering
The K-Series easily handles even the most difficult lighting conditions with its 16-segment metering system. The system will accurately assess the balance between the bright and dark areas within the segments automatically, or you may opt for center weighted or spot metering.
Advanced photography involves a serious passion for developing your own ideas and experimenting with approach, subjects and technique. The PENTAX K20D builds on the technology of the award winning K10D and offers the highest resolution camera in the advanced photo enthusiast category with a number of customizable features that are ideal for the more experienced shooter.
The Next Generation
In designing the K20D Digital SLR, PENTAX made the significant transition to a higher resolution 14.6 megapixel sensor, rivaling the detail previously only found in images captured with 35mm film. This considerable gain offers 50 percent more resolution than 10 megapixel sensors, and 20 percent more resolution than 12 megapixel sensors used by our competition. Noise is minimized and maximum sensitivity is achieved by using peripheral circuitry merely 0.13 micro meters thin. This allows the photo diodes in each pixel of the sensor to be maximized at over 40 percent of the total pixel area (typically only 30-35 percent in similar sensors from other manufacturers). It also allows a more direct light path to assure every detail is captured.
Pentaprism Viewfinder PC Sync Socket
The K20D conveniently includes a PC socket for shooting with studio lights. The camera remains weather and dust sealed even when the PC socket cap is removed. The pentaprism viewfinder in the K20D is designed to give you the best view while composing your image. The viewfinder gives a 95 percent field of view and 0.95X magnification so you can see as much of the image as possible before capture. The viewfinder also provides all the important image information in a concise manner: focus point indicated in red, in-focus indicator, focus mode stats, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, number of images remaining, Shake Reduction status, and with a press of the OK button on the back of the camera, the current ISO setting. Additionally, the focusing screen is interchangeable so you can use a PENTAX grid screen or scale screen.
2.7 inch LCD Panel
The PENTAX K20D incorporates a large 2.7 inch color LCD monitor with a wide-view design, allowing the photographer to see the monitor image over 160 degrees vertically and horizontally. With a total of 230,000 dots it accurately displays your images with minimal power drain. It also offers digital zooming of playback images up to 32X for easy confirmation of the images focus status and details, and, due to its large size, you can
LCD Color Adjustment
The colors displayed on any LCD screen will change as lighting conditions shift. This can be critical when you are shooting JPEG images, or converting RAW files in-camera. The LCD on the K20D can be adjusted to display the correct colors for your most common lighting conditions, much like having a white balance feature specifically for your LCD to allow better confirmation of your captured image.
2.7 inch
even review two images side by side. The large monitor allows for large letters, digits and icons on the menu screens to facilitate menu confirmation and camera operations.
ISO Adjustment
The K20D features an auto sensitivity control function, which automatically sets the optimum standard output sensitivity up to ISO 6400 in the Expanded Sensitivity setting, based on such data as the subjects brightness level and the lens focal length. You have full control of the range of auto sensitivities available. Or, you can manually select the desired sensitivity.
Live View
With the K20Ds CMOS sensor a Live View is possible on the large, 2.7 inch LCD monitor. This allows you to see the full image area and confirm your composition. A grid display can be engaged to help assure the perfect arrangement of your image. Auto focus can be activated by simply pressing the AF button on the back of the camera, and then details can be verified with a 4X or 8X zoom function.
Enlargement of Dynamic Range
Auto Picture, Scene and SV Modes
The K200D offers the PENTAX-developed Auto Picture mode and a Scene mode pallet. The Auto Picture mode automatically and instantly selects one of the four Picture modes including Portrait, Landscape and Macro by calculating various photographic factors to assure optimum results. The Scene mode allows the photographer to select from eight modes specialized for conditions such as Night Scene, Portrait, Sunset, or Pet mode. The photographer chooses the mode to match the subject and scene and the camera automatically selects the proper exposure, white balance, and other settings for superior results. The Sensitivity-Priority AE (Sv) mode is designed to automatically select the optimum combination of aperture and shutter speed for a user selected sensitivity. In the SV mode you may shift the sensitivity simply by turning a dial.
The K200D features an auto sensitivity control function, which automatically sets the optimum standard output sensitivity, up to ISO 1600, based on such data as the subjects brightness level and the lens focal length. Since this function allows the use of higher shutter speeds in poor lighting situations (such as indoor sports events and night scenes), it helps the photographer to effectively reduce camera shake and help prevent blurred images.
Enlarged Dynamic Range
For those times you want to capture the maximum amount of detail in an image, the K200D offers a dynamic range enlargement function. This function brings out the detail in highlighted portions of your image, while maintaining detail in darker areas.
Continuous Shooting
To track the movement of an active subject or capture a sequence of the subjects expressions, the K200D offers a continuous shooting mode that allows the photographer to capture multiple images at a maximum speed of approximately 2.8 images per second.
Penta-mirror Viewfinder
The K200D features a lightweight penta-mirror viewfinder, which combines PENTAX-original finder optics with a Natural-Bright-Matte II focusing screen to deliver a bright, clear subject image with 0.85X magnification and 96 percent field of view.
2.7 Inch LCD
The PENTAX K200D incorporates a 2.7 inch color LCD monitor on the back panel. With a wide-view design, the monitor allows the photographer to verify images on the monitor over a 160 degree angle of view vertically and horizontally. With a total of 230,000 dots for clear images, it also offers digital zooming of playback images up to 16X for easy confirmation of the images focusing status and details. The large monitor allows for large letters, digits and icons on the menu screens to facilitate menu confirmation and camera operations.
Customization
PENTAX has greatly improved the menu displays in the K200D. The new scrolling menus offer you a complete description of each menu item and the function it provides, while an enlarged letter option allows you to boost the font or letter size by 50 percent vertically for easy viewing.
The body of the K200D is designed so that every button and dial is in easy reach. This makes shooting a simple, intuitive operation. However, the camera does not sacrifice in areas of durability and strength. You know as soon as you hold this camera that it will be a photography companion as you learn more about the art
The K200D offers 23 custom options with 52 settings that allow you to adjust how your camera functions. As you learn more about the camera and the way you like to take pictures, the camera will adjust to meet your needs.

Lens Features
Digital sensors are perfectly flat, which requires a higher level of precision when PENTAX designs lenses. This means developing lenses that have the optimal lens curvature, particularly the last lens element before the sensor. The application of multiple lens coatings, such as the PENTAX original smc coating and ghostless coatings, is necessary to prevent external and internal reflections to capture optimal detail even in the most difficult lighting conditions. The effects of chromatic and spherical aberrations are minimized through the use of ED and aspherical glass elements. All these technologies are combined to create lenses that will give the highest level of detail with the high resolution sensors used in PENTAX digital SLR bodies.
