COMMENTS

Adult occupant The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both driver and passenger and there were no structures in the dashboard likely to present a risk to occupants of different sizes or those in different positions. The 5008 scored maximum points in the side barrier impact. In the more severs side pole test, dummy readings indicated marginal protection of the chest. Protection against whiplash injuries in a rear impact was also rated as marginal. Child occupant Forward movement of the head of the 3 year dummy was well controlled in the frontal impact. The 18 month dummy was sat in a rearward facing restraint. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by the shells of their restraints. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward facing restraint to be used in that seating position. However, information provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag is not sufficiently clear. The label warning of the dangers of using a rearward facing child seat without first disabling the airbag is not available in all European languages and was not rewarded by Euro NCAP. The car was rewarded for being equipped with ISOFIX and top-tether anchorages in all three seats in row 2, and the presence of those anchorages was clearly indicated. Pedestrian Protection offered to pedestrians' legs by the front edge of the bonnet was poor. Similarly, in most areas likely to be struck by the head of an adult or child pedestrian, protection was poor and scored no points. Only the bumper provided good protection, scoring full points for its protection of pedestrians' legs. Safety assist Electronic stability control is standard equipment on all variants of the 5008. A seatbelt reminder for all seating positions is also standard. A driver-set speed limitation device is optional on some variants, but is expected to be fitted as standard on the great majority of cars sold.
