Note: When youre recording with the internal or an external microphone, the onboard speakers are disabled to prevent feed back. To listen during recording, use headphones.
Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland CD-2e. This TurboStart contains step-bystep instructions that will quickly introduce you to the CD-2es major features.

Applying Reverb

To apply reverb to your recordings in the CD-2e, press REVERBeach press selects Off, Light, Medium, or Deep.

Playing the Demo

5 Press SD CARD (MODE). Press the REW or FF button to select SD 01. Press the PLAY button. Turn the VOLUME knob to adjust the output level. Press STOP to end playback.
Changing the Key of a Song on a CD
You can change the key of a song from a CD. Use these steps to try out this cool feature: Press the CD button. Insert a playable CD. Press MENU. Press 3/4 to select Playback Key. Press ENTER. Press + or - to change the key. Press PLAY. Press STOP when youre finished.
Formating the Secure Digital (SD) card
The CD-2E supports SDHC Class II cards up to 8 GB in size, and standard SD cards that are 2 GB and less. Use the following steps to format a card: 5 Press the SD CARD button. Press MENU. Press the function + /- button to select SD CARD. Press function 3 or 4 to select Format? Press ENTER twice.
Using the Karaoke Feature (Center Cancel)
Heres how to remove the vocals from a CD. (The success of this depends on the CD.) Insert a commercial CD that contains vocals. Press EASY GUIDE repeatedly until 6. Karaoke appears in the display. Press ENTER. Press + or - to select the desired CD track, and then press ENTER. Press + to turn Center Cancel to On, and then press ENTER. Connect an external microphone, and then confirm that the MIC SELECT switch on the CD-2es side panel is set to EXT. 7 Press ENTER. 8 Turn the MIC knob to adjust the microphone level, and then press ENTER. 9 Press PLAY to begin recordingyou can sing along with the music. 10 Press STOP when youre finished. 5 6
Recording Directly to a CD Using the Internal Microphones
The CD-2e features built-in mics that make it quick and easy to record. 9 Press the EASY GUIDE button. Press 3 or 4 to select 1.Recording, and then press ENTER. Press + or - to select CD-R/RW, and the press ENTER. Press + or - to select Easy INT MIC. Press ENTER, and then press EXIT. Turn the MIC knob to set your recording level. Press the RECORDMARKER button. Press PLAY. Press STOP when youre finished recording.

The CD-2e makes it easy to capture your performances and write them to an audio CD. In Section 1, well show you how to use the CD-2es built-in microphone to record a performance to an SD memory card. Then, in Section 2, well show you how to write your recorded performance onto a CD.
Lets Record to an SD Memory Card

Media to Prepare

SD memory card
1 Connect the included power cord to the dedicated AC adaptor. 2 On the CD-2es rear panel, move the [POWER] switch to the ON position.

Dedicated AC Adaptor (included) * The shape of the power cords plug varies depending on the country.
Insert the SD memory card into the card slot on the left side panel.
(An SD memory card is included in the CD-2e box.)

Press the [

(Record)] button.
The buttons light blinks red, indicating that the CD-2e is standing by for recording.
Firmly insert the card all the way.
When the CD-2e recognizes the card, the following screen is displayed:

The CD-2e starts recording. Begin your performance.
Set the two switches on the left side. 1 Set the [MIC SELECT] switch to the INT

Turn off

(Stop)] button.
The CD-2e stops recording.
While producing the sound that youll actually be recording, turn the [MIC] knob to adjust the input level.
Adjust the level so that the peak indicator located above the [MIC] knob lights briefly at the loudest moments of the performance or vocal youll be recording.

Quieter Louder

Press the [ ][ the desired song.

Press the [ (Play)] [ (Stop)] buttons to start and stop playback.
* To record additional performances, repeat Steps 47.

Once youve finished recording, proceed to the other side of this sheet to learn how to write a CD.

Lets Create a CD

Blank CD-R disc
Press the [MENU] button to access the menu screen, and choose Write (SDCD)?
Press the [MENU] button to access the menu screen. Use the [ ] [ ] buttons to choose Write (SD CD)? Press the [ENTER] button to confirm your choice.
As the screen instructs, insert the CD into the CD slot located on the right side panel.
If youre sure you want to proceed, press the [ENTER] button.
Insert the CD with its label surface facing upward.
The CD-2e begins writing a CD. Please wait.
When you see this screen, press the [ENTER] button. The disc will be ejected automatically when CD writing is completed.
When you see this screen, press the [EXIT] button to end the procedure.
* If youre using the included SD memory card, the sample songs it contains will also be written onto the CD. * You can also select the songs to be written. For details on how to do this, see page 79 in the CD-2e Owners Manual.
Now you have a CD of your performance!!
f youre sure you want to proceed, press the [ENTER] button. Insert the CD into the CD slot.
When the CD-2e recognizes the CD-R disc as an audio CD, the following screen is displayed:
When the FINALIZE screen appears, press the [ENTER] button.
CD appears on the left side of the screen.

It offers a stereo RCA line-level input and a 1/4 stereo mic input as well as a 3.5mm headphone output and a 3.5mm line output. The intuitive interface offers simple controls and a clear LCD screen as well as an Easy Guide button that will show you the ropes quickly so you can start working right away. Several playback modes allow you to change pitch key and tempo of a recording perfect for music study. A metronome is also included.Other handy features of the CD-2e include its ability to run on six AA batteries in addition to AC power. This provides the ultimate portability so you can go anywhere. A compact wireless remote is included for full recording and playback controls including volume adjustment metronome controls playback speed and repeat.
