CONSERVER CES INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION

This appliance is for household use only. Any servicing, other than cleaning and user maintenance, should be performed by an authorized service center. Do not immerse machine in water. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not disassemble the machine. There are no parts inside the machine serviceable by the user. Repair should be done by authorized service personnel only. 1 Check voltage to be sure that the voltage indicated on the nameplate corresponds with your voltage. 2 Never use warm or hot water to fill the water tank. Use cold water only. 3 Keep your hands and the cord away from hot parts of the appliance during operation. 4 Never clean with scrubbing powders or harsh cleaners. Simply use a soft cloth dampened with water. 5 For optimal taste of your coffee, use purified or bottled water. Periodic descaling is still recommended every 2-3 months. 6 Do not use flavored or caramelized coffee.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE POWER SUPPLY CORD
A. A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is to be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. B. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may used if care is exercised in their use. C. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used,
1. The marker electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance 2. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and 3. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
Machine est rserve un usage domestique. Tout entretien, en dehors du nettoyage et de lentretien usuel par lusager, doit tre fait par un service aprsvente autoris. Ne pas plonger la base dans leau. Pour viter les courts-circuits et les dcharges lectriques, ne pas dmonter la base. Elle ne contient aucune pice qui demande un entretien de la part de lusager. Toute rparation doit tre effectue par le personnel dun service aprs-vente autoris. 1 Vrifier si le voltage correspond bien aux spcifications apparaissant sur la plaque signaltique. 2 Ne jamais mettre de leau tide ou chaude dans le rservoir; mais toujours de leau froide. 3 Ne pas toucher les surfaces chaudes de lappareil pendant le fonctionnement et en carter le cordon lectrique. 4 Ne pas utiliser dalcool thylique, de solvants, dessences, de poudre rcurer et/ou dobjets abrasifs pour le nettoyage de la machine 5 Utiliser de leau purifie ou en bouteille pour assurer le bon got du caf. Il sera toutefois ncessaire de procder au dtartrage de votre machine tous les 2-3 mois. 6 Ne pas utiliser du caf au caramel ou mlang avec toute autre recette.

INSTALLATION - MONTAGE

STARTING THE MACHINE - MISE EN MARCHE DE LA MACHINE
Make sure the power button is not pressed and the machine is turned off. Check the machine features on the label on the bottom of the appliance. Check the water hardness as indicated on page 18. Use this information to adjust the machine. To install the Intenza water lter, see page 11. Sassurer que linterrupteur gnral ne soit pas actionn. Lift the lid off the coffee bean hopper. Soulever le couvercle du rservoir caf en grains.
Fill the container with coffee beans. Close the lid placing it correctly on the hopper. Remplir le rservoir caf en grains Fermer laide du couvercle en le positionnant correctement sur le rservoir caf.
Remove the water tank. It is recommended to install the water lter as described on page 11. Retirer le rservoir eau. Il est conseill dinstaller le ltre eau Intenza (Voir page 11).
Fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level. Re-insert the tank. Remplir le rservoir avec de leau frache potable, jusquau niveau MAX indiqu. Rinsrer le rservoir.
Insert the plug into the socket located on the back of the machine and insert the other end into a power outlet with suitable current. Brancher la che sur la prise situe au dos de lappareil. Brancher lautre extrmit du cble sur une prise de courant approprie.
Firmly push down the power button to turn on the machine. The machine performs a selftest. Appuyer fond sur linterrupteur gnral pour allumer la machine. Lappareil effectue une analyse des fonctions.

Insert the lter in the empty tank. The reference mark and the groove must match. Push rmly until it is completely inserted. Insrer le ltre dans le rservoir vide ; le point de repre et la cannelure doivent concider. Appuyer jusquau point darrt.
Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water and re-insert it into the machine. Remplir le rservoir avec de leau frache potable et repositionner celui-ci dans la machine.
Place a container beneath the hot water wand. Dispense all the water in the tank using the hot water function (see page 22). Placer un rcipient sous la buse de vapeur. Distribuer leau chaude se trouvant dans le rservoir au moyen de la fonction eau chaude (voir page 22).
Fill the tank again with fresh drinking water. The machine is ready for use. Remplir de nouveau le rservoir avec de leau potable frache. La machine est prte.
NOTE: if the Intenza water lter is not used, insert the small white lter that was previously removed (step 1) into the water tank. REMARQUE : Si le ltre eau Intenza nest pas prsent, insrer dans le rservoir le petit ltre blanc prcdemment enlev.

The drip tray height is adjustable to t different sized cups. To adjust the drip tray, lift it or lower it manually until it reaches the desired height. Bac dgouttement rglable en hauteur. Pour rgler le bac dgouttement, le lever ou le baisser manuellement jusqu atteindre la hauteur souhaite.
15 AROMA OPTI-DOSE (ADJUSTS THE COFFEE DOSE PER CUP) (OPTI-DOSE) INDICATION DE LA QUANTIT DE CAF MOULU
By pressing the button there are four possible choices (strong, medium or mild aroma, and pre-ground coffee). The coffee beans indicate the quantity of coffee to be ground for the brewing of the product. It is recommended that the special measuring scoop be used for pre-ground coffee (1 dose). , quatre En appuyant sur la touche slections sont possibles (fort, moyen, lger et caf moulu). Coffee is a natural product and its characteristics may change according to its origin, blend and roast. The Saeco coffee machine is equipped with a self-adjusting system that allows the use of all types of coffee beans available on the market (not including avored or carmelized). The machine automatically adjusts itself in order to optimize the extraction of the coffee, ensuring perfect compression of the beans to obtain a creamy espresso coffee that is able to release all the aromas, regardless of the type of coffee used. The optimization process is a learning process that requires the brewing of a certain number of coffees to allow the machine to adjust the compactness of the ground coffee. Attention should be given to special blends, which require grinder adjustments in order to optimize the extraction of the coffee (see page 16). La machine caf Saeco est munie dun systme dautorglage permettant dutiliser tout type de caf en grains disponible dans le commerce (non caramlis). La machine se rgle automatiquement an doptimiser l'extraction du caf, en assurant le compactage parfait de la pastille pour prparer un caf expresso crmeux, mme de librer tous les armes, indpendamment du type de caf utilis. Le processus doptimisation se compose d'une phase de calibrage demandant la distribution dun certain nombre de cafs an de permettre la machine de rgler le compactage de la poudre. Attention, il peut y avoir des mlanges particuliers qui demandent un rglage des moulins dans le but doptimiser lextraction du caf - (voir page 16).

COFFEE GRINDER ADJUSTMENT - RGLAGE DU MOULIN
The machine enables a slight adjustment of the coffee grinder. Coffee may be ground according to your own tastes. The adjustment must be performed using the small pin located inside the coffee bean hopper. This must be pressed down and turned using the supplied grinder adjustment key only. Press and turn the pin one notch at a time. You must brew 2-3 coffees before you will taste a difference. The references located inside the bean hopper indicate the grind setting. La machine permet de rgler le degr de mouture du caf. Ceci dans le but dadapter la distribution du caf au got personnel de chacun. Le rglage doit tre effectu laide du pivot situ lintrieur du rservoir caf ; appuyer sur le pivot et le tourner uniquement avec la cl fournie. Presser et tourner le pivot dun seul cran la fois et distribuer 2 ou 3 cafs : cest le seul moyen pour remarquer la variation du degr de mouture. Les rfrences lintrieur du rservoir indiquent le degr de mouture rgl.

The SBS dial has been carefully designed to give your coffee the fullness and intensity you desire. Simply turn the dial, and you will notice that the coffee brewed will adjust to the setting selected. SBS SAECO BREWING SYSTEM

The Saeco Brewing System (SBS) adjusts the fullness of the brewed coffee. The coffee may even be adjusted while it is brewing. This adjustment has an immediate effect on the selected type of brewing. Pour rgler la densit du caf distribu. Le rglage peut galement tre effectu durant la distribution du caf. Ce rglage a un effet immdiat sur la distribution slectionne.

The machine is designed for energy saving. After 60 minutes of inactivity, the machine goes into stand-by mode, the boiler is no longer heated and all the lights turn off with the exception of the temperature light which will blink slowly. Power consumption is reduced to a minimum. To turn the machine on again simply press the brew button. The machine will go through the rinse cycle if the circuit is cold. La machine se met en attente (stand-by) 60 minutes aprs la dernire utilisation, la chaudire nest plus alimente, toutes les DEL steignent lexception des DEL de temprature qui clignoteront lentement. Les consommations sont rduites au minimum. Pour redmarrer la machine, il sufra dappuyer sur la touche caf. La machine effectuera le rinage au cas o le circuit se serait refroidi.

Pour ground coffee into the bypass doser using the measuring scoop provided. Verser le caf moulu dans le compartiment prvu cet effet laide de la mesure fournie.
Place a cup under the dispensing spout. Positionner une tasse sous la buse de distribution.
Press the brew button. Appuyer sur le bouton central.
When the machine stops brewing, remove the cup. Lorsque la machine a termin la distribution, retirer la tasse.
Note: If no pre-ground coffee is poured into the compartment, only water will be dispensed; If the dose is excessive and 2 or more measuring scoops of coffee are used, the machine will not brew the product. Also in this case, the machine will run an empty cycle and discharge any ground coffee into the dregdrawer.
Remarque : Si le caf prmoulu nest pas vers dans son compartiment, la machine ne distribuera que de leau ; Si la dose est excessive et que sont verses 2 ou plusieurs mesures de caf, la machine ne distribue pas la boisson. Dans cette situation aussi, la machine effectue un cycle vide et dcharge le caf en poudre dans le tiroir marc.

Dispensing may be preceded by short sprays of hot water, and scalding is possible. The hot water/steam wand may reach high temperatures: do not touch it with bare hands. Use the appropriate handle only. Au dbut de la distribution, faire attention au risque de brlures car il peut y avoir des claboussures deau chaude. La buse deau chaude/vapeur peut atteindre des tempratures leves : viter de la toucher directement avec les mains, utiliser exclusivement la poigne prvue cet effet.
Adjust the height of the drip tray. Rgler la hauteur du bac dgouttement.
Press the hot water button to select the hot water function. The hot water light will turn on. Appuyer sur le bouton pour activer la fonction. La DEL sallume. 6

Wait for the container to be lled with the desired quantity of hot water. Attendre que le rcipient soit rempli jusqu la quantit deau dsire.

When the descaling light is ashing, a descaling cycle must be performed. Lorsque la DEL clignote, procder au dtartrage.
Empty the tank and rell it, dissolving the descaling solution into a full tank of water. Vider le rservoir eau et le remplir avec la solution dtartrant jusquau repre situ sur ce dernier.
Place a large, empty container beneath the hot water wand. Positionner un grand rcipient vide sous la buse de vapeur.
Press the descaling button for 5 seconds. Appuyer sur le bouton pendant 5 secondes.
Turn the knob to the position. Tourner le bouton jusquau point de repre.
The machine will begin dispensing the descaling solution through the hot water wand. The dispensing occurs at predetermined intervals, in order to allow the solution to be more effective. La machine commence distribuer la solution dtartrante dans la buse de distribution de leau chaude. La distribution a lieu des intervalles prtablis pour permettre la solution dagir de faon efcace.
During the descaling and rinse cycle the light is constantly on. Empty the container if it becomes too full. La DEL est allume de manire xe pendant le cycle de dtartrage et de rinage. Vider le rcipient si besoin est.
When the warning light is on, the rst phase of the descaling cycle is nished. Now proceed to the rinse phase. Lorsque la DEL est allume, la premire phase du cycle de dtartrage est termine. Il est ncessaire de passer la phase de rinage.
Rinse and ll the water tank with fresh drinking water up to the level marked on the tank. Rincer et remplir le rservoir avec de leau frache potable jusquau repre situ sur le rservoir.
Place a large empty container beneath the hot water wand. Placer un rcipient vide aux capacits adquates sous la buse de vapeur.
The machine will begin the rinse cycle as soon as the water tank is inserted. La machine commence le cycle de rinage ds que le rservoir eau est mis en place.
At the end of the rinse cycle, the descaling light will turn off and the warning light will turn on. The descaling cycle is complete. la n du rinage, la DEL de dtartrage steint et la DEL dalarme sallume. Le cycle de dtartrage est ni.
Turn the knob to the rest position ( ). Tourner le bouton jusqu la position de repos ( ).
Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water. Remplir de nouveau le rservoir avec de leau frache potable.
Press the descaling button for 5 seconds to exit the descaling cycle. Appuyer sur le bouton pendant 5 secondes an de sortir du cycle de dtartrage.

Insert the washed and dried brew group. DO NOT PRESS THE PUSH BUTTON. Insrer le groupe lav et essuy. NE PAS APPUYER SUR LA TOUCHE PUSH.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEMS CAUSES
The machine is not connected to the power source. The plug has not been plugged into the back of the machine. Machine in stand-by. The cups are cold. The hole of the hot water wand is clogged. The coffee blend is unsuitable or coffee is not freshly roasted. The SBS dial is turned towards the left The machines water circuit is obstructed by limescale build-up. The brew group is out of place.

SOLUTIONS

Connect the machine to the power source. Insert the plug into the machines power socket. Press the brew button to start the machine. Warm the cups with hot water. Clean the hole of the hot water wand using a pin. Change coffee blend. Turn the SBS dial to the right Descale the machine.
The machine does not turn on.
Coffee is not hot enough. Hot water or steam is not dispensed. Coffee has little crema.
The machine takes a long time to warm up or the amount of water dispensed from the wand is too little. The brew group does not come out.
Dregdrawer is inserted. The machine grinds the coffee beans but Water tank is empty. no coffee comes out. (see note) Brew group is dirty. Circuit is not primed. Rare event that occurs when the machine is automatically adjusting the dose. The coffee volume knob is turned to the left. Rare event that occurs when the machine is automatically adjusting the dose. Coffee is too ne. The water circuit is not primed. The brew group is dirty. Dispensing head is clogged. Coffee bean lid is not closed properly.
Turn the machine on. Close the service door. The brew group is automatically placed in the correct position. Remove the dregdrawer rst, then the brew group. Fill the water tank and prime the water circuit again. Clean the brew group. Prime the circuit again by dispensing water from the hot water wand. Brew a few coffees as described in the manual. Turn the knob clockwise. Brew a few coffees as described in the manual. Adjust the grinder to a coarse grind (see page 15). Prime the circuit again by dispensing water from the hot water wand. Clean the brew group. Clean the dispensing holes with a soft cloth. Correctly place the lid on the coffee bean hopper and press it rmly.
The coffee is too weak. (see note) Coffee is brewed slowly. (see note)
Coffee leaks out of the dispensing head. Brewing does not start.

Immediately unplug the cable from the outlet.

USE THE APPLIANCE ONLY

- Indoors. - To prepare coffee, dispense hot water, froth milk or heat beverages using steam. - For domestic use only.

NEVER USE THE APPLIANCE

For purposes other than those indicated above, in order to avoid danger. Do not introduce any substances other than those indicated in the instruction manual. During the normal lling of any reservoirs, all nearby reservoirs must be closed. Fill the water tank only with fresh drinking water: Hot water and/or any other liquid may damage the machine. Do not use carbonated water. Do not put ngers or any material other than coffee beans in the coffee grinder. Before manipulating the coffee grinder, turn off the machines main switch and unplug the cable.

POWER CONNECTION

Only connect the coffee machine to a suitable power socket. The voltage must correspond to the indication on the machines label.

INSTALLATION

Choose a level surface. Do not place on heated surfaces! Allow a distance of 10 cm (4 in) between walls and cooking hotplates. Do not keep the machine at temperatures below 0C (32F) danger of freezing damage. There must be easy access to the socket at all times. The power cable must not be damaged, tied up with clamps, placed on very hot surfaces, etc. The power cable must not hang. (Danger of tripping or dropping the appliance). Do not use the power cable to carry or pull the coffee machine.

DANGER

- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. - Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. - The appliance is dangerous to children. If left unattended, please disable it. - Do not leave the coffee machine packaging within the reach of children. - Never direct the jet of hot water and/or steam towards yourself or others. Danger of scalding. - Do not insert objects through the appliances openings (Danger! Electrical current!). - Do not touch the plug with wet hands and feet. Do not remove the plug by pulling the cable. - Warning, danger of burns caused by hot water, steam and hot water/steam spout.

FAILURES

- Do not use the appliance in case of sure or suspected faults such as after falls. - Any repairs must be performed by an authorized customer service center. - Do not use the appliance with a defective power cable. If damaged, the power cable must be replaced by the manufacturer or authorized service center. (Caution! Electrical current). - Turn off the appliance before opening the service door.

CLEANING / DESCALING

- Before cleaning, unplug the machine and let the appliance cool. - Keep the appliance from coming into contact with splashes of water or immersing in water. - Do not dry the machines parts in conventional or microwave ovens.

SPARE PARTS

For safety reasons, use only original spare parts and original accessories.

DISPOSAL

- The packing materials can be recycled. - Appliance: unplug the appliance and cut the power cord. - Deliver the appliance and power cord to a service center or public waste disposal facility. This product complies with EU Directive 2002/96/EC.
