Samsung G810, Rumored to "Defeat" Nokia N95
The phone should appear at the Mobile World Congress
Looks like Samsung is preparing for a major release in the near future, as leaked details about a new phone produced by the South Korean company recently appeared. Samsung G810 is the name of the new handset and it should come to succeed the G800 model and also to show Nokia's N95 that high-end multimedia phones are made better in Korea than in Finland. Samsung G810 resembles G800 in terms of design and comes in the same slider form factor but with improved features and a larger display (a 2.6 inch one). G810 is a GSM / UMTS handset with HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mb/s and runs on Symbian 9.2 S60 3.1. It offers Wi-Fi, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, USB 2.0, a 1200 mAh battery, 150 MB of internal memory and microSD card support. Measuring 104 x 53 x 18, the new Samsung handset packs a 5 Megapixel camera with Auto focus, Macro mode, anti-shake, face recognition and 3x optical zoom. Although not really slim, Samsung G810 is not thicker than Nokia N95 (21 mm), so that's a plus for the South Korean handset. We don't have Carl Zeiss optics in the built-in camera, but there's 3x optical zoom which can really make the difference. It may look like I'm already seeing Samsung G810 as better than Nokia N95, but of course I can't do this, first of all because all the info about it is only rumors. Also, the Nseries phone is already launched for some time now, so comparing G810 with it is not really fair, as Nokia is surely working on new handsets that will most probably come with even more advanced features than N95. The Czech website that first spread the rumor about Samsung G810 mentions something about "15,000 korun", probably saying the phone will be available for this retail price. 15,000 CZK is the equivalent of about $860 or 585 Euro, which means the new Samsung will be quite expensive, even when compared to Nokia N95. Samsung G810 is said to be showcased next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (11 - 14 February), when we should be able to see if it's indeed the super-phone that we want it to be.

CeBIT 2008: Hands-On with Samsung's G810 Flagship Slider
Highly featured but a bit unfriendly
Samsung G810 was first announced and presented during MWC 2008 in Barcelona, Spain (11 - 14 February). The handset was and still is seen as a direct competitor to Nokia's N95 and the unreleased yet N96, and that's because its features, target and form factor are kind of similar to the ones of the N-Series phones. Now Samsung showcases the mighty G810 at CeBIT 2008 in Hanover, Germany (4 - 9 March), along with its other phones announced recently, and of course we made some hands-on pictures with it.The handset has a minimalist, metallic appearance and, overall, it looks really nice. Unfortunately, G810 seemed a bit bulky and kind of unfriendly, although its dimensions are acceptable (103 x 52.9 x 17.9 mm). Of course, this it's just our impression, so other users might find the phone perfect - it's all about how you expect the device to "interact" with you. When it comes to technical specs, Samsung G810 has about everything any user might need. The handset runs on Symbian OS 9.2 S60 3rd Edition and is powered by an ARMMHz CPU with TI OMAP 2430 chipset. Furthermore, it comes with tri-band GSM and UMTS2100 connectivity, as well as GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. G810 packs a 2.6 inch TFT display (256K colors, 240 x 320 pixels) and a 5 Megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, VGA video recording, autofocus and xenon flash, to provide a picture quality that few other mobile phone cameras can. Other great features include GPS navigation software (Navigon), geo-tagging capabilities, camera face detection, music and video player, TV out, Stereo FM radio, 3.5mm audio output jack, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0, document viewer, Java MIDP 2.0, Google search integration, RSS reader, email capabilities and so on.
