CeBIT 2008: Hands-On with Samsung i780 and Samsung i200
Windows Mobile smartphones
Samsung brought many mobile devices at the 2008 edition of CeBIT (Hanover, Germany, 4 - 9 March), including the G810 flagship and the stylish F490. Right now we're going to present you i780 and i200, two handsets that have in common the Windows Mobile OS. Samsung i780 is a business-orientated smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and looks pretty nice, I even dare to say it looks far better than both Samsung's BlackJack and BlackJack II (since it has been compared with them when first announced). I780 has lots of cool features, including a 2.55 inch TFT touchscreen with 65K colors and a 320 x 320 pixels resolution, full QWERTY keyboard, tri-band GSM connectivity, 3G/HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, GPRS and EDGE. Furthermore, the phone offers built-in GPS, A-GPS support, Microsoft Office Mobile, finger mouse, Windows Media Player, Opera Mobile 8.65 browser, email and Instant Messaging, Bluetooth 2.0, USB, Callia Player and Callia Reader, SmartConverter and so on. There's also a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording and a secondary VGA camera for video calls. Measuring 115.9 x 61.3 x 12.9 mm and weighing 120 grams, Samsung i780 packs a standard Li-Ion battery that can (or it should, at least) provide up to 7 hours of talk-time and about 400 hours of stand-by time. The phone is available in Europe for a pretty high price, somewhere around 550 Euro ($840). No word yet about a future availability in North America. Samsung i200 is a smaller (than i780) smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard and has a stylish design. The handset measures 116.7 x 50.8 x 11.8 millimeters, it's 3G-enabled and comes with a 2.3 inch TFT display at a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, a 2 Megapixel camera, PocketIE browser, email capabilities, Instant Messaging, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0, Media player (MP3, WMA, AAC and MPEG4 support), voice command and voice memo, organizer, Java MIDP 2.0 and so on. Samsung SGH-I780 Gets Official Specifications and Pictures
Ready for a release at the beginning of year 2008
Samsung SGH-I780 has been recently spotted during the GITEX show in Dubai. A Swedish site, Mobil.se, has posted the phone in some official photos, along with specifications coming from the producer and a release date.Samsung SGH-I780 is a pretty evolved smartphone, one of the few from this producer that also includes QWERTY keypad. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6 pro, which shows the fact that it is quite evolved. It brings a large number of solutions for handling personal data and making reliable file transfers, through GPRS and EDGE. Moreover, this is a 3G enabled phone, leaving almost no drawback in its offer for data handling. Connectivity is also available through Bluetooth and WiFi.The phone's sizes might seem rather large for some users, as it comes at 115.9 x 61.3 x 13.3 mm, although it proves to be highly compact for a smartphone. The QWERTY keypad also adds to its sizes, but also to the functionality, as it makes entering large texts fairly easy. The 2.55 inch 65k color display is capable of supporting a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, a fairly high one. There's no flaw to it, as it is actually a touchscreen capable of competing with most of the other evolved handsets out there.The 3.2 megapixel camera should be capable of providing data captures of a great quality. There is also a secondary front camera for placing video calls. Samsung SGH-I780 includes even built-in GPS with Navigation client, which makes this phone too good to be true and sets it way above most other high end smartphones out there. The internal memory has not been specified, but the handset also comes equipped with a microSD slot, as to provide the memory space needed to make the best of all the included functions.According to Mobil.se, Samsung i780 will be launched in Sweden at the beginning of the next year, although an exact date when this will happen has not been specified yet.
