The Camera is a a very convenient size, large enough to be able to get a firm grip and small enough to be easily portable. Simple to use. Are as good as other Sony camcorders with USB support, tv cables, blah blah blah.... If you have read reviews of other Sony camcorders.

To record a subject behind a window covered with raindrops. To record horizontal stripes. To record a subject with little contrast between the subject and its background. When you want to focus on a subject in the background.
Tips for focusing manually It is easier to focus on the subject when you use the zoom function. Move the power zoom lever towards T (telephoto) to adjust the focus, and then, towards W (wide angle) to adjust the zoom for recording. When you want to record a close-up image of a subject, move the power zoom lever towards W (wide angle) to fully magnify the image, then adjust the focus.

You cannot use HOLOGRAM AF together with: CAMERA-TAPE mode (No flash) Flash set to [SUNSET&MOON] or [LANDSCAPE] of [PROGRAM AE] Manual focus SPOT FOCUS function Burst NightShot function The focal distance information is not displayed on the screen.
When you are recording in a dark place, you can use the HOLOGRAM AF light to focus on subjects until the focus is fixed. The maximum focal distance for the HOLOGRAM AF light is about 2.5 m (8 feet).
[HOLOGRAM AF] is set to [AUTO] by default (p. 61). About HOLOGRAM AF HOLOGRAM AF, an application of laser holograms, is a new auto-focus optical system that enables still image shooting in dark places. Having gentler radiation than conventional high-brightness LEDs or lamps, the system satisfies the Laser Class 1 (*) specification and thus maintains higher safety for human eyes. No safety problems will be caused by looking directly into the HOLOGRAM AF emitter at a close range. However, it is not recommended to do so, because you may experience side effects, such as several minutes of residual images or dazzling, that you would encounter after looking into a flashlight.
* HOLOGRAM AF satisfies the Class 1(time base 30000 seconds) specifications, recommended by all of the JIS (Japan), IEC (EU), and FDA (US) industry standards. Complying with these standards certifies the laser product to be safe, under conditions where a human looks at the laser light either directly or through a lens for 30000 seconds.
Adjusting the frame and focus when recording a still image in darkness NightFraming
You can observe the subject in total darkness. When recording, the HOLOGRAM AF light is emitted to focus on a subject until the focus is fixed.

Adjustment screen example:
[TRAIL] You can record a picture so that an incidental image like a trail is left. [SLOW SHUTTR] (slow shutter) You can slow down the shutter speed. This mode is suitable for shooting a subject more clearly in a dark place. [OLD MOVIE] You can add an old movie-type atmosphere to pictures. Your camcorder automatically records pictures in the letterbox mode for all screen size, sepia in color, and at a slower shutter speed.
When you touch [STILL] or [LUMI. KEY], the image displayed on the screen at that time is saved as a still image.

3.3 Megapixel Advanced HAD CCD

Imager

1/3" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD imager with 2077K effective video pixels provides excellent detail and clarity, for exceptional digital video performance. Realize unprecedented digital still images with 3048K effective pixels. The 3.0 Megapixel technology enhances your digital videos (530 lines of horizontal resolution) and digital photography performance.
Precision Color Viewfinder (180K Pixels) Increased pixel count provides more detail and clarity of video subjects. USB Streaming Stay connected with family and friends by broadcasting live video with audio, via the Internet with the USB interface. You can even playback your favorite recorded scene stored on tape. Its like having your own web camera or video conferencing system. The USB Interface also allows easy transfer of still images and MPEG1 movies stored on Memory Stick Media to the computer.
Expanded Focus Indicator While using the manual focus ring, the camera automatically adjusts to 2X magnification, allowing for extremely accurate focus adjustment. i.LINK* DV Interface (IEEE1394) A high speed bi-directional digital video/audio communication between two compatible devices equipped with an IEEE1394 interface, including camcorders, digital VTRs, and PCs. Click to DVD Software Connectivity By connecting the camcorder to a Sony VAIO computer, via i.LINK interface and pressing the Burn DVD button in the menu system, this allows you to automatically burn a copy of your personal videos to DVD. This feature is compatible with newer versions of Click to DVD software found exclusively on select VAIO Notebook and Desktop computers. Super NightShot Infrared System and Color Slow Shutter With Sonys NightShot infrared system, capture video in total darkness (0 lux) up to 10 feet away. Super NightShot 0 Lux recording mode automatically adjusts the shutter speed to increase picture brightness and clarity. Color Slow Shutter mode allows you to record in low light situations with full color detail by slowing down the shutter speed. Super SteadyShot Picture Stabilization System An advanced version of Sonys SteadyShot system that controls an even higher range of shake and vibration frequencies, to achieve an even higher level of smoothness without degradation of video like some other image stabilization systems. Progressive Shutter System A mechanical shutter system that provides Progressive Scan performance while utilizing an interlaced scanning system. Digital still images will be sharp and clear with excellent definition.
MiniDV Recording MiniDV digital recording format delivers 3X the color bandwidth of VHS and lower signal to noise ratio compared to analog formats, providing stunning video performance. Professional Quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* Lens
Carl Zeiss T* lens offers the most advanced multi-layer coating system, resulting in even less glare and lens flare compared to other systems. The result is vivid image brilliance with outstanding contrast and accurate color rendition across the spectrum.
Digital Still Memory Mode with Memory
Stick Media Digital Still Memory Mode captures high quality 3.0 Megapixel still images at up to 2016 x 1512 resolution directly to Memory Stick media. Images are stored in the JPEG format providing easy transfer to PCs for emailing, printing, or sharing with family and friends. 16MB Memory Stick media is supplied. MPEG Movie EX Mode Unlike earlier MPEG1 Movies, MPEG Movie EX will allow you to record uninterrupted to the capacity of the Memory Stick Media. For example a 128MB Memory Stick media will record up to 85 minutes of non-stop MPEG1 video, or over 11 hours on 1GB Memory Stick PRO Media. Manual Focus Ring Allows the user to adjust the camera's focus for more creativity and/or effects. Manual focusing also allows the user to control the camera's focus in difficult shooting situations.
10X Optical/120X Precision Digital Zoom The optical zoom brings the action close up from far away. In addition, precision digital zoom interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms. 2.5" Precision SwivelScreen Hybrid Touch Panel LCD Display (211K Pixels) The 211K pixel LCD provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution. The Hybrid system consists of a transmissive LCD combined with a reflective LCD. By turning off the backlight, it will capture more ambient light virtually eliminating LCD wash-out. Images will be visible in the LCD even in the most challenging outdoor lighting conditions. The On Screen touch panel system allows you to navigate through the cameras menu system at the touch of the LCD screen.

Smooth Interval Record

A form of video recording (Time Lapse Recording) that allows for extremely smooth, time elapsed video. Various recording intervals and recording time can be specified to suit the type of situation being recorded.
