Most cell phone companies install special "locking" software on their phones that prevents the phones from being used with any other network's SIM card. There are currently no recommended accessories. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is the manufacturer's first Android phone. It is rather high-end, equipped with a 1GHz Snapdagon processor, 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480x854 pixels and an 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus. However, its software features are just as imp... Read more

My email and calendar are through Google and this phone syncs to them seamlessly. I think Sony Ericsson did a great job of modifying Android 1.

Xperia X10 2.2 - Unofficial
benzmar 195 posts since Jul 13, 2010
Xperia X10 Tastes Android 2.2 via New Custom ROM
Sony Ericsson might not come up with an official Android 2.2 Froyo software update for the highend Xperia X10 smartphones, but custom ROMs that enable users enjoy the benefits of this OS version already started to emerge into the wild.
The new ROM available for Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 devices is currently available only in a beta flavor, and can be installed through xRecovery. The software comes from the XDA-Developers forum, and is described in this thread: FreeX10 is a clean, fast and stable rom for Xperia X10 based on AOSP and CM sources.
Generated by Jive SBS on 2011-06-09+01:00 1
For those users interested in installing this ROM on their Xperia X10 smartphones, we should note that it requires a rooted 2.1 ROM to be present on the device.
As usual, we warn users that the rooting of any mobile phone results in voiding the warranty for that device.
It should also be noted that installing unofficial software in the device is sometimes quite risky, and that users should refrain from doing so, especially if they are not familiar with what the rooting of a mobile phone is all about. As for this particular ROM, we should note that, being only in a beta flavor for the time being, means that it still comes with a series of issues, and that users might experience random crashes with it, or that the camera does not work as of yet. The USB Mass Storage, the hardware video enc/dec + Youtube and Wifi DNS/DHCP / ringtone loop issues initially present with the software already got hotfixes, and the existing known issues might be solved in the near future as well.
Additional info on this custom ROM for Xperia X10, as well as the necessary download links can be found in the said forum thread. While no OS upgrade will be on its way to Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 devices past the Android 2.1 platform version, users would still benefit from software updates from the handset vendor, it seems. One of them is reportedly the 2.1.A.0.390 firmware update, unavailable for end-users at the moment, which should bring forth multi-touch capabilities.

Remember, its beta version only. Guys in XDA are working on get all the known bugs fixed.
Besides these, the same team is working on 2.3 (gingerbread) in alpha version to start with.
SE, what's happening with you? Will you really not support your customers? Will you still bang the same old condolence to switch over to Arc? Will you not take your words back and hire XDA guys into your team and make your customers glad?

I'm just waiting for some SE employed coming here to say WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND DO NOT MIGRATE TO A THIRD PARTY ROM SINCE YOU ARE GONE TO LOOSE WARRANTY AND OUR FAMOUS SOFTWARE XPERIENCE to answer about their quality support and the one big mistake of announcing X10 would not receive any one more upgrade because a customer who had bought an X10 yesterday morning is in time to planning PHONE REPLACEMENT with Arc loosing his first Xperia just out of the box because of NO REAL REASON. Finally I would say that such warranty politic is not so good since like a PC any software warranty is quite different to the HW one and you wont loose the latter depending to the former.

You need the right threads.
I have used this roms through the development and everything you need for day to day use including the camera (except for video recording) does work on this 2.2 rom now, if it is installed correctly if it isn't that is where the issues come from random crashes, reboots etc, don't rush it to see it working take the time to do it properly I have not had any problems it is stable.

This is the only way you will get 2.2 on your x10i, this is not for the mini, mini pro or x8, they have different threads
Download the flash and root tool, install it and follow the instructions Download and install xrecovery follow the instructions (this version requires an app such as root explorer as you need to make the system files writeable for the process) There are other ways of installing if you check out the XDA forum From the 2.2 thread you need to download the rom, the hotfix and the gapps, the install process using xrecovery
Install the rom via xrecovery, reboot phone Install gapps via xrecovery, reboot phone Install the hotfix via xrecovery, reboot phone
Leave the phone alone for a minute then turn it off, leave it another few minutes, tunr it on
Job done you have 2.2, 99% working version only minor issues to resolve but it does not stop the phone working
Apps2sd Flash player in stok browser and 3rd party browsers Gmail SMS / MMS Phone call functions

Still I am not able to believe whether SE will really stop upgrading Xperia X10i. Gosh! its sounds so scarry with goose pimples all over my body. lol. No way, it cannot be. It should be updating. It's still in the market and customers are buying, and how can SE keep quite without upgrading it further or tweaking it further. Indeed, the price has dropped drastically. I purchased on June 2010 for 30,000 Indian Rupees, and today in the same Indian market its price is only 22,500/-.
I think we need to wait for updates from XDA Community for the Xperia customers to get their X10i updated to 2.2 and 2.3 respectively.
By the way, another sideline question
Button Savior is an wonderful app. I have installed in my Xperia X10i and it's awesome. The only thing I need is, that app should float below or top and not on left or right. It's little nuisance to see it on right. Besides, the icons should be customizable. Any idea, how to get these fixed. I literally want to stop using the hard keys and go for such soft keys. Please let me know your thoughts.

2.2.1 ROM

FormBee 203 posts since Jan 15, 2011 8. Re: Xperia X10 2.2 - Unofficial Jan 25, 2011 7:44 PM
I want to do this but every time I start, boom my bottle goes. I am scared I turn my 330 phone into a shiny coaster. Every forum post I read loses me on line 1. What the chuff does 'a rooted version of 2.1' mean ???
agposts since Sep 23, 2010 9. Re: Xperia X10 2.2 - Unofficial Jan 26, 2011 8:38 PM
android is linux. linux has a "super user" account called root so rooting means that the user or owner of the phone has super user access on it a non rooted phone is locked to the software or network provider basically rooting a phone makes it fully accessible to you, to do as you want with, its your phone now.
Use this tool to root yours you want break it and if you do just connect back to SEUS and flash it back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920669
First have a go with this to flash the dual touch function from the same thread, flashing the rom is the same if you can flash the dual touch with ease you can do the whole rom which are on this thread
Generated by Jive SBS on 2011-06-09+01:00 7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Or you can just do the full rom including dual touch which is included in the first x10i Generic rom This one will be fine for UK
After that you need to install the xrecovery from XDA

And btw, when will we get stabilized 2.2 Custom ROM? Anyone having any idea on it?
FormBee 203 posts since Jan 15, 2011 13. Re: Xperia X10 2.2 - Unofficial Jan 31, 2011 9:55 AM
I am running a 2.2 custom ROM now.

Technical specifications

Full description

Most cell phone companies install special "locking" software on their phones that prevents the phones from being used with any other network's SIM card. There are currently no recommended accessories. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is the manufacturer's first Android phone. It is rather high-end, equipped with a 1GHz Snapdagon processor, 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480x854 pixels and an 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus. However, its software features are just as impressing. What it adds to the Android universe is a personalized interface, called UX (from User eXperience). Basically, UX combines various entertainment and social media features.
