Sony Ericsson Xperia X2a Available for Pre-Order in the US

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2a, the successor of Xperia X1, seems set to soon make an appearance on the United States market. Pre-orders for the device have already kicked-off over at Sony Style, with the device expected to become available on April 29 or around that date. Those interested in this Windows Mobile-based handset can order it in advance for only $599.99 here. Headed to the market in a side-sliding form factor, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2a is powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system (its maker announced that it should receive updates to newer flavors of the OS) and sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, coupled with a QWERTY keyboard. On the connectivity side, the gadget comes with HSPA 850/1900/2100, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, 3.5mm audio jack, GPS receiver (with pre-loaded Google Maps), Micro USB connector and TV Out. Other specifications of the mobile phone include an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper, which has all the usual features of a camera on Sony Ericsson's handsets, a Qualcomm 528mhz processor, coupled with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, Speakerphone, a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space (a 4GB MicroSD card included in the package), and a 1500mAh battery that can offer up to 10 hours of talk time or up to 500 hours of standby time. Here's how the device is described on the Sony Style website: "Work, connect, communicate - the way you want to with Xperia X2a and flexible panels. Personalize your panels the way you want them, and download more from the web. Check out the news on CNN, find more friends on your Facebook account, and view videos on the 3.2" screen. With the SlideView key and Windows Mobile 6.5 user interface, you have instant access to your messages, schedule, contacts and more. Communicate easily using the touch display or QWERTY keyboard."

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 'Coming Soon' to the US
Spotted at CES with WM 6.5.3
Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson certainly received a hit when Vodafone UK dropped plans of launching the Xperia X2 in the country, but it seems that it hasn't given up the fight yet. The Windows Mobile-based Xperia X2a can now be seen on the Sony Style website, headed for the United States and with a "coming soon" tag all over it.

The handset making joint venture certainly took its time before making a new step towards the availability of Sony Ericsson Xperia X2; yet, now US enthusiasts can rest assured that it shouldn't be too long before the device lands on the market. Those interested in learning in due time when the Xperia X2a is set to arrive on shelves can also register on the aforementioned site for updates.
It might be a little late to the party, that's true, but the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 still has a lot of goodies to offer to those who will snag it. There is a large display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a high-quality photo snapper, great multimedia capabilities, Xperia Services, and the already highly popular Xperia Panels. Not to mention the services that come to all Windows phones from Microsoft, including the Windows Marketplace for Mobile or the MyPhone backup portal.
In related news, we learn that the Xperia X2 also made an appearance on the floor at the International 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. However, that's not all, as some reports around the Web also say that it was running under Windows Mobile 6.5.3 flavor at the event - Build 28005.5.3.0 (WM 6.5.3 Build 23091.5.3.0 was present on other handsets at CES).
At the same time, there are those who claim that the device might have been pushed back a few more months, and that users will have the chance to purchase it only in summer. With Sony Style listing the phone as coming soon, this is a little hard to believe. However, if Sony Ericsson wants to launch it with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on board, things might be different.
