I have a test unit from SE so retail phones may not contain all these languages in any given region, I hope it helps.

Didn't know what the ones that I screen shot were? It's all just symbols to me. Some of them looked Japanese/Chinese to me but then I couldn't honestly tell you!
sushidushi 1,182 posts since Jun 5, 2010 4. Re: Which Languages XPERIA X8 Supports? Nov 11, 2010 6:57 PM
I don't have all those languages on mine. The ones that look Chinese are actually different variants of Chinese, by the way. And the simpler ones are Korean.
EDIT: Actually, I do have all those. Scrolling down helps sometimes! anyway.
No Japanese,

Thank you so much for reply. Now I can see that Indian sub-continent is not considered to provide Regional Language Support for XPERIA X8

So decided not to BUY Xperia X8. I will see other options, Like NOKIA, LG and SAMSUNG - They are providing Regional Language support to their Touch Phones LG OPTIMUS is Great choice I believe
Thank You Again

I would ask to test a model in your local mobile shop and check the language options given to your phones over there. Bear in mind that mine is a European model so the languages listed may vary from area to area. It's a nice phone, altho I don't know very much about the competition in its price/features group.

Oh well at least you have confirmation and that is useful information to know too from my point of view if the question is asked again, or someone has purchased the phone without doing the research that you have undertaken. Well done, and sorry you won't be joining 'the family'!

Hey Suze,
Please don't misunderstood.
I even tried to the Local dealers as well. But no one is able to tell me this information.
2-3 sellers told that X8 supports English only. Thats why I am asking everywhere. Finally I got 2 answers at same time 1 from our this Forum and 1 from Sony.

I am really big lover of Sony Ericsson mobiles. Especially I like all features of X8. But I need phone which supports my language as well. I never made any decision without confirmation from proper channel. I hope you can understand my pain. similarly other moderator also missing Japanese language.

I've got X8, all because for the fact that this Android phone allows me to READ AND WRITE IN JAPANESE. By default you CAN read any website and email in Japanese. For the text input download this application called SIMEJI from the market, and tadaaaaa~~~! You've got a functioning X8 in Japanese.

I have just dowenloaded Simeji (having originally been disappointed because I couldn't find it, before realising it was simeji, as you said, not shimeji, which is how i read it!) and it works beautifully. Thank you. I just need to learn some Japanese now.!

Have you tried this app called "More Locale 2"? It may or may not include the language you are looking for, but seems worth a try.at your own risk tho.

In order to be able to type in Chinese, you will need a Chinese input application (I just downloaded the Cantonese one from the market to research your question, but the same principles apply to them all) and you also need to Settings - Locale and text and put a tick / check mark by the keybaoard you want to be able to use. Once you have done this, go to the place you wish to use the Chinese keyboard, and in the text input area long press the screen (touch the screen and keep your finger on it) until Input Method appears. You will then be able to select the Chinese keyboard. I do hope that this helps.

Regarding languages X8 supports. It doesn't support Arabic , so do we have a way out ?
Also, I want to know : 1- How to access my files ( Pictures , Music , videos. etc ) as folders. ( Like what was in old Sony Ericsson cells ) 2- How to work PDF on my X8 ? 3- Does it support reading Word, excel. etc ? I know it is Android phone, but I mean an alternative for microsoft office.
By the way, I updated my X8 to Android 2.1.
Thanks

Technical specifications
Full description
This 104 gram Android device sports a 3 320 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, it comes with GPS, WiFi and 3.5G support, plus an FM radio and a microSD slot (with a 2GB card included in the standard sales package). There is a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back which is capable of video recording. Theres a decently large battery too, powering the X8 for up to 5 hours 40 minutes talktime on 3G.The software is highly expandable, as this is an Android handset and the Android Market is stuffed full of a very wide range of applications. In addition, Sony Ericsson have bundled the Xperia X8 with a trial version of their Wisepilot navigation system, although many users will prefer to use the new turn-by-turn navigation built into Google Maps.
