Step 6: Calibrating the Appropriate Settings Automatically
(Auto Calibration)
This subwoofer is equipped with D.C.A.C. (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) Technology which allows you to perform automatic calibration as follows: Check the connection between each speaker and the subwoofer. Adjust the speaker level. Measure the distance of each speaker to your listening position. Measure the frequency characteristics.*
* The measurement result is not utilized for signals with a sampling frequency of more than 96 kHz.
To a wall outlet (mains)
AC power cord (mains lead)
After connecting the AC power cord (mains lead), wait about 20 seconds before turning on the power by pressing "/1.
The D.C.A.C. is designed to obtain proper sound balance in your room. However, you can adjust the speaker levels and balance manually according to your preference. For details, see Setting the speaker level (page 57).
Before performing the Auto Calibration
Before you perform the Auto Calibration, set up and connect the speakers (page 15). The ECM-AC2 jack is used for the calibration mic (supplied) only. Do not connect other microphones to this jack. Doing so may damage the subwoofer and the calibration mic. During the calibration, the sound that comes out of the speakers is very loud. Pay attention to the presence of children or to the effect on your neighborhood. Perform the Auto Calibration in a quiet environment to avoid the effect of noise and to get a more accurate measurement. If there are any obstacles in the path between the calibration mic and the speakers, the calibration cannot be performed correctly. Remove any obstacles from the measurement area to avoid measurement error.

This format comprises of stereo rear channel and there is discrete subwoofer channel in this format. DTS provides the same 5.1 discrete channels of high quality digital audio. The good channel separation is realized due to the all channel data being recorded discretely and processed in digitally.
S-master is an all-digital amplifier technology developed by Sony, which effectively minimizes the occurrence of sound fragmentation and jitter, delivering superb dialog clarity and faithful reproduction of the original sound. The compact amplifier section supports a higher power efficiency and improved thermal performance.
x.v.Color
x.v.Color is a more familiar term for the xvYCC standard proposed by Sony, and is a trademark of Sony. xvYCC is an international standard for color space in video. This standard can express a wider color range than the currently used broadcast standard.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is an interface that supports both video and audio on a single digital connection, allowing you to enjoy high quality digital picture and sound. The HDMI specification supports HDCP (Highbandwidth Digital Contents Protection), a copy protection technology that incorporates coding technology for digital video signals.

Golf Ball-sized Loudspeakers from Sony: HT-IS100 and HT-CT100
Space economy meets functionality
In case you're the kind of guy who keeps on wondering why companies producing home theater systems rely on the tall towering shapes for the satellite speakers even if on the inside you only find a tiny driver, here's your answer: because the Sony HT-IS100 has just been announced! This nifty home theater system boasts the tiniest satellites you'd ever expect to see in such gear, but as far as the tech specs are concerned it looks like the size is not necessarily a minus.[admark=1]Shaped in a cubic form, the satellites of Sony HT-IS100 sport the approximate size of a golf ball: yes, we're really talking about small cabinets (if I may call them cabinets) but whose sonic response will deliver true audio bliss (or at least that's what Sony says). [img=3][img=4]Developed especially for those critical places where space is a premium item, these satellites can actually be installed in any corner of the room, whether you're thinking about shelves or tabletops. As a matter of fact, I guess they'd go even attached to your laptop display.[img=2]These 43mm cubes weigh only 70 grams each and are complemented by a no-nonsense subwoofer housing the amplification module as well as three HDMI ports, optical digital audio jacks, coaxial digital audio and composite and stereo outputs for a truly versatile use. And for those who think that 5.1 is too much, a 3.1 array (HT-CT100) will be available, comprising said subwoofer and an L-R-Center combo bar speaker, even easier to install than the full surround model. There haven't been made public any clear technical specifications, except for the total power ratings: 250W for the 3.1 system and a massive 425W for the 5.1 surround theater. These models will be available starting June 25 in Japan with a 90,000 Yen price for the 5.1, which runs around $885; unfortunately, there is no word on the shipping date for other countries. We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is.

HT-IS100 is the perfect surround-sound add-on system to existing Blu-ray Disc or DVD players. For those consumers who already have a Blu-ray Disc player or a DVD player/recorder, the perfect upgrade solution is the HT-IS100, combining all the surround processing and amplification into a single hideaway subwoofer unit. Within the subwoofer is powerful s-master digital amplification and sophisticated surround-sound processing, able to handle all the surround-sound formats on DVD and also accept high-definition audio from Blu-ray Disc for an even more thrilling home cinema experience. The system can also accept video signals from all your existing sources, either via HDMI connections or component and composite video sockets, and then will up convert for a single HDMI cable connection to your BRAVIA TV. It has the same digital cinema auto calibration as the other 'IS family' systems, and also features the digital media port for fast and easy hook-up of portable devices. If you're looking for a simple, great-sounding system to take you from just watching TV to truly experiencing it, look no further.
