Sony Unveils the Next Generation Premium Earphones for Audiophiles The new EX Monitor MDR-EX700SL implements larger 16mm dynamic driver units, closedtype vertical-in-the-ear model with seven sizes of hybrid silicon ear buds Hong Kong, October 30, 2007 Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited today announced the new studio-quality EX Monitor series earphones, MDR-EX700SL. The MDREX700SL is the new generation of premium earphones that incorporates three new features to enhance the highest quality of acoustic and maximum comfort for the audiophiles on the go. Comprising 16mm dynamic drivers for a more powerful bass and dynamic music reproduction, the MDR-EX700SL is a closed-type vertical in-the-ear headphones with an edge in design with 7 different hybrid ear buds customised for a suitable fit. Large diameter 16 mm dynamic driver units for a more dynamic music experience The MDR-EX700SL incorporates newly developed 16 mm dynamic driver units for closedtype vertical in-the-ear model in the market. With a larger dynamic driver compared to other premium earphones in the market, the MDR-EX700SL can actualize wideband playback of the treble with rich bass without compromising the original source, with superb balance between bass and treble. The MDR-EX700SL has a multiple layer diaphragm which includes two different types of high-polymer materials each measuring less than 0.1 m thick with few hundred layers to contribute to the highest quality sound. This structure enables suppressing of unnecessary vibration thus eliminating noises to reproduce high resolution music. It also enables the MDR-EX700SL to have high rigidity to generate high resolution sound. Through enhanced magnetic flux density, supersensitive sound reproduction of clear mid range to treble is generated. The MDR-EX700SL adopts a 440kJ/m3 highly magnetic neodymium magnet with high energy efficiency to enhance the sensitivity of sound. To achieve both high quality sound and comfortable fit, the MDR-EX700SL utilises a lightweight and sturdy magnesium to make the body small and thin. Any unnecessary vibration is withheld by integrating the body and the driver unit, making possible smooth response in the bass region. Closed-type vertical-in-the-ear model Although the large diameter driver units of 16 mm are used, the MDR-EX700SL uses magnesium which is 30% thinner compared to the ordinary plastic material to create a lighter body. Together with the ergonomic design of the earphones, the MDR-EX700SL creates comfort for the user.
Designed for high sound quality and comfort Sony has developed a new hybrid silicon ear bud with a combination of different hardness to complement sound quality and ensure comfortable wear of the earphones. The harder material in the core maintains the path of the sound to ensure the sound is not distorted by squashed tips. The soft material is used at the external part of the earphone to improve on the fitting in the ear. For customization to the different ear sizes, the MDR-EX700SL is bundled with seven different sizes of ear buds to match each users different ear canals. The MDR-EX700SL is packaged with a sleek black leather pouch and an inner case for storage and additional protection. The EX Monitor MDR-EX700SL will be available from the middle of November 2007 at the suggested retail price of HK$2,068.
