I was looking for a small stereo with big sound, and found it with the Tivoli Model One. The AM/FM works well, but mostly I use the AUX input. We wanted to replace our Boom Box in the Master Bath. It sounds absolutely wonderful. May buy a second one for my office....Bob E.

Outstanding, hard to find only AM or FM Outstanding, it is hard to find a FM or AM radio these days, many thanks Amazon! Looks and sounds great Love the austere look of the radio, and for a small, single-speaker system the sound is outstanding. The tuner doesnt live up to the hype. I bought a Model One for my desk at work due to its compact size. Excellent compact AM/FM radio This is a fine little radio with very good reception and very good sound.

About Tivoli Audio

Tivoli Audio was founded by Tom DeVesto with the mission of bringing simple to use, elegantly designed, high quality audio products to consumers. As CEO and head of research and development at his former company, Cambridge SoundWorks, Tom was responsible for the development of many of the best selling home entertainment and multi-media products on the market. He also held senior management positions in product development at both Advent and Kloss Video. Henry Kloss (1929-2002) began his long love affair with audio back in the early 1950s when, as a student at M.I.T., he began building speaker enclosures for fellow students who wanted to exploit the sound of live FM broadcasts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. With encouragement from Major Edwin Armstrong, inventor of FM, and M.I.T. lab staff, he co-founded Acoustic Research in 1952. At Acoustic Research, Henry co-invented the revolutionary AR1 acoustic suspension loudspeaker, which forever changed the way audio was reproduced. In 1957 he went on to co-found KLH where he introduced audio enthusiasts to the Model Six loudspeaker, Model Eight FM table radio, and the Model 11 portable phonograph. Ten years later at Advent, he designed one of the first projection televisions (which earned him an Emmy Award), along with one of the first consumer cassette decks utilizing Dolby B noise reduction**. After continuing projection television work at Kloss Video, Henry co-founded Cambridge SoundWorks in 1988 along with Tom DeVesto. In 2000, at the age of 70, Henry emerged from retirement to once again team-up with DeVesto to produce the original, critically acclaimed Model One mono table radio.

Packed with your Model One you should find one each: 1 External FM Antenna 1 9' Power Cord 1 Warranty Registration Card Please contact your dealer or Tivoli Audio if any of these items are missing.
Guide to Features (Front):
1. VOLUME KNOB: Rotate the volume knob to the right to increase the volume or to the left to decrease the volume. This knob also controls the volume of the headphone output. 2. OFF/FM/AM/AUX KNOB: Turn the knob one click to the right to hear the FM band, two clicks to the right to hear the AM band, or three clicks to the right to select the auxiliary input. 3. TUNING KNOB: Rotate the analog tuning dial to the right or to the left to adjust the FM (upper half of dial) or AM (lower half of dial) frequency range. 4. TUNING INDICATOR: Brightest when best tuning has been achieved. Some listenable AM stations will not light the tuning indicator and should be tuned by ear for the clearest signal. This light may or may not remain lit when in the AUX position depending upon the position of the AM dial. 5. POWER INDICATOR: Glows when the source knob is in any position other than Off.
Guide to Features (Rear panel):
1. 12VDC/800mA: This input is for use with an optional 1A fused, 12VDC adaptor, for operation in a boat or camper. The connector must be 5.5mm/2.1mm center positive. 2. FM ANTENNA SWITCH: Switch between internal and external FM antennas. If an external antenna is used, the switch should be in the External position. This switch has no affect on AM reception. 3. EXTERNAL FM CONNECTION: In some cases, FM reception may be improved by sliding the included external FM antenna over this F connector and setting the antenna switch to External. For more, see the section marked Reception. When disconnecting the included FM antenna, always firmly grasp the black connector. Never pull on the wire itself or you may damage the antenna. 4. EXTERNAL AM CONNECTION: In some cases, AM reception may be improved by connecting an external AM antenna (not included) to this jack, which accepts a 1/8" male stereo mini connector. For more, see the section marked Reception. 5. HEADPHONE OUT: Connect a headset (not included) to this variable stereo output for private listening. The headset will mute the primary speaker. The headsets volume is adjusted using the volume knob. This stereo output accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini connector. Avoid using headphones at high volume levels to prevent possible hearing damage. 6. AUX IN: To hear audio from another device, such as a CD player, MP3 player, or computer, connect said devices audio output to this stereo input and switch the front source knob to Aux. Switching to the Aux position does not turn on the connected device. This stereo input accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini connector. The left and right stereo signal is summed to mono. Note you may need to adjust the volume level differently for an auxiliary device than the level used for radio listening. 7. REC OUT: You can record from the Model One radio by connecting a cassette decks audio input (or other recording device) to this fixed level stereo output. You can also use the Model One

radio as a high performance analog tuner by connecting it to the audio input of a preamplifier or integrated amplifier. The primary speaker will not be muted when using this output. This jack accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini connector. 8. 117V: Connect the included power cord to this input. When unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet, always grab it by the plug. We recommend using a powerstrip with surge protection. When disconnecting the power cord, always grasp it firmly at the connector. Never pull on the cord itself. Do not bundle the power cord together with the external FM antenna or any audio cables, as this can inject noise in the audio path.

Reception:

The internal FM and AM antennas will provide good reception. An optional outdoor antenna will provide the best possible reception. Another alternative is to use the supplied indoor external FM antenna or an optional FM dipole antenna with adapter. Locating the indoor antenna near a window or outside wall will provide better reception than more interior locations. Connecting your cable television 75ohm coaxial cable to the external FM connection may also provide clear local reception, although you must usually request activation of this service through your cable company. For AM, rotate the radio for best reception. An optional external AM wireless or wired antenna may provide improved AM reception. Buildings made with concrete, steel, or aluminum siding will hinder reception. Household appliances, electric blankets, computers, CD players, and other electronic devices can also adversely affect reception or inject noise. If you experience this, move the Model One radio further from the offending device or plug it into an electrical outlet not shared by another device. Metal surfaces may also hinder AM reception.

Placment

Place the unit on a flat, stable surface. Do not block the bottom bass port. The Model One radio is not video shielded and should be kept at least 5" away from a computer monitor or television. The Model One radio can be positioned vertically as well as horizontally. Placement in a bookcase, cabinet, or close to walls or corners may inflate the bass.

Cleaning:

Never use any harsh cleansers or solvents on your radio. Avoid spray-on waxes. Unplug the Model One radio prior to cleaning. The face may be cleaned with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Painting or staining the wood cabinet will void your warranty. The variations in color and grain are characteristics of real wood and give the cabinet its natural beauty. As a result, the cabinet's finish may not match other Tivoli Audio products. Also note some finishes, particularly walnut, may darken over time to light exposure. This is normal for a natural wood product. NOTE: Tivoli Audio cabinets use real wood veneers. Since natural wood varies greatly, it is not possible to achieve an exact wood color/grain match between models. You may also notice the wood darken over time with exposure to sunlight. Again, this is normal for real wood.

Use only the power supply provided with this product. To obtain a replacement, contact your authorized dealer or Tivoli Audio, USA: 1.877.297.9479. The power supply connector is 5.5mm/2.1mm x 13mm long, center positive. Do not connect the power supply to an electrical outlet controlled by a wall switch. It is normal for the power supply to become warm during use. An optional 12VDC nominal, 1.5A fused source may also be used. 4. ANTENNA SWITCH: Switch between internal and external FM antennae. If the included FM antenna is used, set this switch to external. This switch has no affect on AM reception. 5. EXTERNAL FM CONNECTION: The Model Three has built-in AM and FM antennae. To improve FM reception, insert the end of the supplied FM antenna into the center of this F connector and set the switch to External. Adjust the wire for best reception. See the section marked Reception for more information. This connection has no affect on AM reception. 6. HEADPHONE: Connect a headset (not included) to this stereo output for private listening. The headphone volume is controlled by the Model Threes volume knob. Connecting a pair of headphones will mute the Model Threes speaker. This jack accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini plug. Avoid using headphones at high volume levels to prevent hearing damage. 7. SUB OUT: Connect Tivoli Audios Model Subwoofer (sold separately) to this output to enhance the bass. This jack accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini plug. 8. AUX IN: To hear audio from another device, such as Tivoli Audio's Model CD, connect the devices audio output to this stereo input and switch the source knob to Aux. Note that you may need to adjust the volume level differently for an auxiliary device than the level normally used for radio listening. This jack acceptsa 1/8" stereo male mini plug. 9. REC OUT: You may record from the Model Three by connecting a cassette deck or other recording device to this fixed level, stereo output. You may also use the Model Three as a high-performance AM/FM analog tuner by connecting a preamplifier or integrated amplifier to this output. The Model Threes speaker will not be muted when using this output. This jack accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini plug. 10. MIX IN: Connect your computers (or other device) audio output to this stereo input to hear audio mixed-in with either the tuner or auxiliary device if one is connected. The volume level of this input must be adjusted at the source. This jack accepts a 1/8" stereo male mini plug. 11. MONO/STEREO: This switch should remain in the Mono position unless the rightDual Alarm or Stereo Speaker (sold separately) is connected, in which case the Stereo position should be selected. If you are using the Dual Alarm or Stereo Speaker and have the switch set to Stereo, you may wish to experiment with this switch during radio listening, as the Mono position may help to clean up FM static noise. The Headphone and Record outputs are Stereo and are not affected by this switch, unless the Source knob is set to AM (which is always Mono) or FM and this switch is set to Mono. 12. TIME SET: Briefly press and release this button to advance the hands in small increments. Press and hold this button to continuously advance the clocks hands. Release the button when the clock is set properly. Be sure the alarm button is in the Off position when setting the time. See How to set the clock. 13. ALARM GRILLE: The alarm beep emits from this grille. Do not block this grille. 14. BATTERY BACK UP: Remove the battery cover and install a fresh major brand 1.5V AA alkaline battery, observing correct +/ polarity. The clock operates off of the battery continu9

ously and the battery also acts as a back up. In the event of a power failure, the battery back up will maintain the clocks operation and sound the wake-up tone if the alarm button is in the On position, provided a fresh battery is correctly installed. The clock face will not illuminate and the radio will not operate during a power failure in order to conserve battery life. Check the batterys strength annually and replace only with a major brand, 1.5V AA alkaline battery. If the clock stops operating, replace the battery. To reduce the risk of fire or injury, do not leave a dead battery in the clock. Do not dispose of the spent battery into a fire. Do not open or tamper with the battery. Do not recharge the supplied battery. Dispose of the spent battery according to your state/country's regulations. Remove the battery if the Model Three is to be stored or unused for a long period of time. See also How to set the clock.

How To Set The Clock

Set the hands to the correct time with the Time Set button. Push the Time Set button in and release to move the hands in small increments or hold the button in to continuously advance the hands. Be sure the front panel alarm button is in the OFF position when adjusting the time.

How To Set The Alarm
1. Rotate the alarm thumbwheel counter-clockwise and set the alarm hand to the approximate time you wish to wake to. DO NOT TURN THE ALARM BEZEL CLOCKWISE OR YOU MAY DAMAGE THE MECHANISM. 2. Turn the source knob to AM or FM and tune to a station that will be broadcasting during the set wake-up time. Set the volume to the desired level you wish to wake to. If you prefer to wake to the tone, set the source knob to Aux instead of AM or FM. 3. Press the Alarm button ON. The green alarm LED will light and the radio sound will turn off. The radio will turn back on when the clock time roughly coincides with the setting of the alarm hand. If the Alarm is in the ON position and the source knob is in the OFF position, the tone will sound during the set wake-up time. If the Alarm is in the ON position and there is a power failure, the tone will sound inlieu of the radio during the set wake-up time, provided a fresh battery is properly installed. 4. To turn the Alarm OFF, press the Alarm button again and the Alarm LED will extinguish. Important Note: Due to the nature of the alarm thumbwheels analog mechanism, which was designed for simplicity, there can be up to a five-minute deviation from when the alarm activates. For example, if the alarm is set for 10:00, it is possible it could activate at 9:55 or 10:05. We recommend you set the alarm early the first time you use it to accommodate for this. As you use your Model Three you will get a better idea of where you need to set the alarm in order to wake-up at the desired time.

A Word About Radio Reception
The displays backlight and contrast are controlled automatically via a small sensor in the lower For difficult FM reception conditions, if an outdoor antenna is not an option, attach the included antenna to the external FM antenna jack on the back panel and set the switch to External. Alternately, an FM dipole antenna or amplified indoor FM antenna may be used. The best place to locate an indoor antenna is near a window or outside wall. Sometimes just reorienting the radio will improve reception. Since the power cord acts as an extension of the internal FM antenna, moving the power cord may also improve reception. Connecting your cable television wire to the external antenna jack may also provide clear local FM reception, although you usually must request activation of this service through your local cable company. Although there is no connection to wire an external AM antenna, a wireless AM loop antenna (not included) often provides better AM reception than most wire-type AM antennas. Reorienting or relocating the radio sometimes improves AM reception as well. Note the rear panel External switch has no affect on AM reception. Buildings made with concrete, steel, or aluminum siding will hinder reception. Household appliances, electric blankets, computers, CD players, and other electronic devices can also adversely affect reception or cause noise. If you experience this, plug the Model Three into an outlet not shared by another device or move it further away from the offending device. Metal surfaces may hinder AM reception.

Placement:

Placing your Model Three inside a bookshelf or against a wall will inflate the bass as well as confine the speakers output. For best sound reproduction, allow the sound from the speaker to emit without restriction. Do not place objects over the speaker grille. Do not obstruct the rear bass port. The Model Three is magnetically shielded but it is best kept at least 5 away from a computer monitor or television set.

Cleaning:

Never use harsh cleaners or solvents or abrasive pads. The face may be cleaned with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Take care not to rub too hard. For the wood cabinet, liquid polish usually yields better results than spray-on waxes. Do not use glass cleaner or other chemicals to clean the clocks window. Painting or staining the cabinet is not recommended and will void your warranty. NOTE: Tivoli Audio cabinets use real wood veneers. Since natural wood varies greatly, it is not possible to achieve an exact wood color/grain match between models. You may also notice the wood darken over time with exposure to sunlight. Again, this is normal for real wood.

Full description

Each Platinum Series Model One features a hand-lacquered, high gloss wood cabinet. These hand-crafted cabinets go through a lengthy, multi-layer process to achieve their rich luster and elegant finish. The furniture-grade, handmade wood cabinet is not just for appearance sake, but also doubles as an acoustically inert housing. A heavy-magnet, long-throw 3-inch driver is allied with a multi-stage frequency contouring circuit that adjusts the speaker's output over half-octave increments. The result is musically accurate tonal balance and bass response. Instead of a standard, off-the-shelf integrated circuit, the Model One uses a state of the art, discrete-component FM tuner featuring GaAs MES-FET mixers. Originally developed for cellular telephones, the Model One was the first radio to adopt this technology for better FM reception and increased clarity on closely spaced stations. Discovering those stations is a joy thanks to the large analog tuning knob. Its geared-down 5:1 tuning ratio permits easy and accurate tuning. The amber tuning indicator lets you know when you've achieved proper tuning. Built-in AM and FM antennas provide satisfying reception, while a rear 75-ohm jack allows connection of an external FM antenna in difficult reception areas. Also provided is a headphone jack, auxiliary input to connect a portable CD player or other device, and a record output for recording, or to use the Model One as a high-quality outboard tuner. The Model One looks right at home whether perched on a kitchen counter, in a dorm room, bedroom, at the office, vacation home, on a workbench, or even in an RV or boat (using the 12V input).
