Back in the day, competitors would take their Triumph twins, strip them down, fit dirt tires and suspension, add higher exhausts for added ground clearance, and head out on the rough terrain. These Triumphs were hugely competitive in enduro competition and famously ridden by Hollywood star Steve McQueen in the 1964 International Six Day Trial (ISDT) in the former East Germany. The Scrambler takes its inspiration from those ISDT machines with classic styling that is dominated by the twin high level exhausts that are designed to provide maximum ground clearance on rough terrain. Spoke wheels with lightly knobbied tires, high footrests, rugged fork gaiters and wide off-road style handlebars give a further nod to the Scramblers off-road heritage. The utilitarian style is highlighted by the simple single color options: Jet Black and a military style Matte Khaki Green. A whole range of official Triumph accessories also are available to personalize the Scrambler. Items such as headlight grilles, skid plate and number boards can turn the Scrambler into a real ISDT replica, while fly screen and leather luggage options cater for the large number of Scrambler owners who enjoy tackling the urban jungle each and every day. Powering the Scrambler is a unique version of Triumphs 865cc parallel-twin. Designed outwardly to look like a classic 1960s twin, this DOHC eight-valve unit is a low maintenance modern engine that meets the most stringent emissions regulations. The fuel-injected twin delivers a laid back 58bhp and 50ft.lbs. of torque at just 4750rpm to make the Scrambler a breeze to ride in all conditions. With its 270-degree crankshaft, the Scrambler takes on a totally different character to the other models in Triumphs Classic range, producing a totally addictive off-beat soundtrack that can be cranked up a notch with an off-road Arrow exhaust system that is available as part of Triumphs genuine accessories range.
