I have an overclocked Q6600 CPU, and I need to keep it cool. The stock Intel CPU cooler was only so effective, so upon reading reviews. My CPU was idling at 45C before I installed this fan, now it idles at 35C. When I ran CPU intensive programs before I installed it. Overall this is an outstanding cooler. Not only is it the best air cooler available but it can also take on some liquid systems out there. I use this with an Abit AN-M2 mobo and Athlon X2 3600 (Brisbane core). Coupled with the fan speed control from the BIOS.

Zalman was opened in 1999 and was the first commercial heatsink manufacturer to focus on quiet performance. Their coolers from that time until now.

Worth it? I put it in a 2U server...that was screaming with a stock heat sink. With this product it is much...much quieter. Artwork in copper This thing is a work of art compared to the dumpy one Intel sends out with their processors.

low noise fan This is a good low noise CPU cooler. Zalman is a good brand and this product does reflect its good range. The fan is fairly wide.

Posted - 04/30/2009 20:25:46 I recently took the time to build my own Core icomputer by ordering parts off Newegg. It cost me under $months ago even after tax and shipping. You can save a ton of money if you have the inclination and time to build a computer yourself. As long as you can use a screwdriver and are patient in seating a CPU / heatsink correctly, and make sure you don't use too much thermal compound, you can do it too. Here's what you can amazingly buy for under $1300 before shipping/tax: -Core iprocessor which can somewhat easily be overclocked above the $1000 dollar 965 i7 chip with the right motherboard. -Asus P6T Deluxe overclockers motherboard -Basic gamers video card -Heavy duty 750W Corsair power supply -Basic Lian Li aluminum case -12 (YES TWELVE) GBof DDR3 RAM! -2 (YES TWO) 640 GB7200 RPM hard drives from WESTERN DIGITAL (YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER A 300 GB 10000RPM DRIVE FROM THEM INSTEAD FOR FASTER COMPUTER - THAT'S WHAT I DID ACTUALLY, BUT MORE EXPENSIVE OF COURSE) -Basic DVD burner/reader -Ginormous Zalman copper heatsink for cooling CPU -Adapter clip for the heatsink to the Core i7 type motherboard socket -- oops I think I forgot Windows but you can just use a copy of XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit (ugh) if you already have one. -- you don't need extra thermal compound because it comes with the Zalman cooler. Following directions and kind of doing it for the first time, it took me about 2.5 days of working most the day to build it and install windows. Build at your own risk! I found it educational and sort of fun. If I had ordered this computer retail probably would have been at least triple the cost. Overclocking at first glance can be pretty confusing, not to mention introduce instability into your computer-- something you definitely do not want if it going to be a live trading computer. Here is a guide to overclocking this motherboard and chip that is pretty good: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-920-overclocking.html I actually found it easier to overclock than some of the older quadcores.
Posted - 04/30/2009 22:57:13 For under $1300 dollars, you could spend what you would have spent on a retail computer on a wonderful educational trading seminar like the one Math and Nemo are doing together soon. (Ok yeah shameless plug but I think they are worth the money from personal experience.) Or, if you're really lazy and have extra money sitting around to invest, an extra couple grand will pay for management fees of various money managers for about a year (depending on your investment of course). Or, that extra couple grand could be used as trading capital! So many things you could do with the extra money, so the lesson is, if you're brave, build your own computer! More bang for your buck, and more bucks! Disclosure: I don't work for Newegg, Math, or Nemo and am not being compensated in any shape or form for saying these things.
