4x4 system: OK for normal driving, but in 15-20 cm slush/snow the system connects the rear wheels in and out all the time. I have Toyota Rav 4 which drives really smooth and confortable. The Toyota RAV4 2.0 NRG 3dr is a good car and lasts forever. There is enough room for three kids in the backseat. It is a good lookling car to.

Was RAV4 ever in the Swiss Army ?
No, but it does know a thing or two about versatility. Inside RAV4, theres a level of spaciousness thats most unexpected. Your passengers enjoy plenty of room and comfort to stretch out and relax. Or pull a lever in the cargo area, and a section of the second row folds at, turning the interior into a space ready for almost anything, whether its a warehouse shopping trip or a cross-country trek. Versatile seating

With its available and oh-so-functional 50/50 Split & Stow 3rd Row seat,2 RAV4 has a total people-hauling quota of seven. Perfect if youve got a bunch of family or friends who all need to hitch a ride.

RAV4s available backup camera1 is a smart solution that helps ease the task of backing out of driveways or into parking spaces. Augmenting the outside mirrors, the backup camera displays what it sees behind you on the available auto-dimming rearview mirror.
5. Youll be surprised by how much room RAV4 gives you to carry cargo and by how easy it is to fold the rear seats at so you can make the most of all 73 cubic feet of cargo capacity.2 6. The second rows 60/40 split design means you can quickly adapt RAV4 to suit the situation. Say you need to toss sports gear in back yet still have a seat or two left in their upright positions for passengers. RAV4 can handle that.

Is RAV4 a 2WD or 4WD?

Its available in both 2WD or Electronic On-Demand 4WD. Either way, youll have a vehicle capable of remarkably assured traction. Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)1 with Traction Control (TRAC) part of the Star Safety System helps RAV4 get a grip when accelerating or cornering. Electronic On-Demand 4WD models operate in fuel-efcient 2WD mode during normal driving, transferring automatically to 4WD when traction conditions demand more grip.
Advanced traction technologies
On snow-covered streets, rain-soaked roads and steep hills, these traction technologies available on RAV4 help you get a grip:

Electronic On-Demand 4-Wheel Drive (4WD)
Available Electronic On-Demand 4WD gives you the enhanced traction of 4WD when needed. The system controls the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels, allowing the vehicle to automatically switch seamlessly from 2WD to 4WD mode.
Hill Start Assist Control (HAC)2
When youre stopped on a steep incline and need to get going, problems can arise. Thats why RAV4 is available with a feature called Hill Start Assist Control. It helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward as the driver switches from the brake to the accelerator. When engaged, HAC holds the brakes for approximately three seconds, helping give the driver time to engage the accelerator.
Downhill Assist Control (DAC)2
RAV4 is available with an innovative feature called Downhill Assist Control. Designed to help provide a controlled descent on steep inclines, it works by setting a target vehicle speed of approximately 2-4 mph. To help maintain that target speed, DAC sends a signal that automatically modulates RAV4s powerful brakes.
LONGEVITY FACT: The pistons in RAV4s available V6 engine have an advanced resin coating. This decreases friction, which in turn increases reliability. Its another way in which Toyota strives to keep your vehicle running strong for years to come.
Available Electronic On-Demand 4WD 1 controls the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels, allowing the vehicle to automatically switch seamlessly from front-wheel-drive 2 to 4WD mode. 3 The result is enhanced traction, control and fuel economy.
1. See footnote 27 in Disclaimers section. 2. See footnote 13 in Disclaimers section.
Every 2011 RAV4 comes standard with the Star Safety System, a suite of six advanced safety features designed to help keep drivers out of harms way. The system includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability 1 Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA)2 and 3 Smart Stop Technology (SST). SST reduces engine power and helps bring the vehicle to a stop when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed at the same time under certain conditions.
In the event of certain rear-end collisions, a mechanism in the lumbar region of the front seats triggers the movement of the active front headrests4 up and forward to help position the headrests to better support the front occupants heads.

To help prevent a slip sideways while cornering, RAV4 uses Enhanced VSC. It adjusts engine power, braking and steering assist torque to help the driver steer in the direction that provides the greatest control.

If a wheel loses traction during acceleration,TRAC limits engine output and/or applies the brake to the spinning wheel and transfers torque to the wheel that still has traction.

How many airbags come standard?
Six. RAV4 comes standard with an Advanced Airbag System that includes both driver and front passenger airbags and is complemented by front seat-mounted side airbags as well as rst- and second-row RollSensing side Curtain Airbags (RSCA).
RAV4s ABS pulses brakes rapidly during hard braking to help keep the wheels from locking up and thus helps preserve steering control.
To help drivers when braking, RAV4 comes standard with EBD and BA. These systems sense braking situations and react quickly to modulate brake pressure to optimize stopping power.
Photo not intended to replicate actual inated airbags.

What kind of mpg rating can I expect?
1 Its not surprising that a RAV4 gets an EPA-estimated highway rating of up to 26 mpg. What is surprising is that its a RAV4 4WD model powered by an available 269-hp V6. The secret is Dual VVT-i, an engine valve timing technology that optimizes power and fuel efciency.
Limited V6 shown in Classic Silver Metallic with available 4WD and Premium Plus Value Package.

Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owners Manual for further details. 28. Smart Stop Technology operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owners Manual for further details. 29. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owners Manual for further information/warnings. 30. Active front headrests can help reduce the extent of whiplash in certain types of rear-end collisions. 31. The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a Smart Key fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or Smart Key fob matches the code in the vehicles immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or Smart Key fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or Smart Key fob, your Toyota dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org 32. Package savings based on MSRP of package features. MSRP may not reflect actual dealer sales price. Customer savings will vary.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TMS-82-10
TOYOTA DEBUTS 100-MILE RANGE, RAV4 EV DEMONSTRATION VEHICLE AT LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW
Toyota/Tesla Collaboration To Build, Demonstrate And Evaluate 35 Vehicles: Fully Engineered Second-Generation RAV4 EV Slated For 2012 On-Sale Date
LOS ANGELES, November 17, 2010 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. (TMS) debuted today the second-generation Toyota RAV4 EV at a news conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show. A total of 35 vehicles will be built for a demonstration and evaluation program through 2011, aiming at market arrival of a fully-engineered vehicle in 2012. The fully-engineered vehicle will have a target range of 100 miles in actual road driving patterns, in a wide range of climates and conditions.
When we decided to work together on the RAV4 EV, President Akio Toyoda wanted to adopt a new development model that incorporated Teslas streamlined, quick-action approach, said Jim Lentz, president and chief operating
officer, TMS. The result was a hybrid a new decision and approval process and
a development style that our engineers refer to as fast and flexible. Led by the Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America (TEMA) Technical Center in Michigan, the new development model helped reduce development time without compromising product quality. The team has accomplished this by approaching the project as they would a typical mid-cycle major-minor product change. Specifically, midway through a generation, the team began with a fully engineered current-generation RAV4, to which was added a major powertrain option, along with minor feature and cosmetic changes. Tesla was responsible for building and supplying the battery, as well as other related parts, that met specific Toyota engineering specifications in
performance, quality and durability. Toyota was responsible for development and manufacturing leadership and the seamless integration of the powertrain. From the beginning, the customer experience has been the focus, said Lentz. In other words, how do we deliver an unconventional product to mainstream customers that is compelling and affordable and that offers an acceptable level of daily convenience. A large part of the teams focus on the customer experience targeted driveability. In this case, the end goal is a vehicle with driveability characteristics as close to the conventional RAV4 as possible. For example, the demonstration vehicle weighs approximately 220 pounds more than the current RAV4 V6 yet it will accelerate from zero to sixty nearly as quickly. This added weight factor required significant retuning of major components and a prioritized focus on weight distribution. Not only were suspension and steering modified significantly, major components needed to be relocated to better balance the increased mass of the battery pack. The demonstration vehicle Toyota is currently testing is powered by a lithium metal oxide battery with useable output rated in the mid-30 kwh range. However, many decisions regarding both the product, as well as the business model, have not been finalized. Battery size and final output ratings, as well as
pricing and volume projections of the vehicle Toyota plans to bring to market in 2012, have not been decided. As for a final assembly location, Toyota is considering many options and combinations. The basic vehicle will continue to be built at its Canadian production facility in Woodstock, Ontario. Tesla will build the battery and related parts and components at its new facility in Palo Alto, Calif. The method and installation location of the Tesla components into the vehicle is being discussed.
The RAV4 EV received several distinct exterior styling changes including a new front bumper, grille, fog lamps and head lamps. New EV badging and the custom
mutually exclusive paint color, completed the transformation. The interior received custom seat trim, multimedia dash displays, push-button shifter and dashboard meters. The RAV4 platform brings a 73-cubic-foot cargo area with rear seats folded down no cargo space was lost in the conversion to an electric powertrain. In 1997, Toyota brought to market the first-generation RAV4 EV in response to the California zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate and was the first manufacturer to meet the mandates Memo of Agreement on volume sales. Powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, the vehicle had a range of between 80-110 miles on a single charge. From model year 1998 to model year 2003, only 1,484 vehicles were sold or leased in the U.S. 746 first-generation RAV4 EVs are still on the road (www.toyotarav4ev.com). Price and convenience proved to be critical success factors and they

remain so today, said Lentz. But much has changed in the last few years. Most importantly, the growing level of awareness that sustainable mobility will come at a cost that must be shared by the automakers, government and the consumer. Toyota's approach to sustainable mobility focuses on the worlds future reliance on mobility systems tailored to specific regions or markets, rather than individual models or technologies. It acknowledges that no one technology will be the winner and that a mobility system in Los Angeles will probably look very different from one in Dallas or New York or London or Shanghai. Toyotas comprehensive technology strategy is a portfolio approach that includes a long-term commitment to hydrogen fuel cells, plug-in hybrids and battery electrics all driven by the further proliferation of conventional gas-electric hybrids, like Prius as its core technology. Toyota has announced that coinciding with the arrival of the RAV4 EV in 2012 it will launch, in key global markets, the Prius PHV (plug-in hybrid) and a small EV commuter vehicle. It will also launch, in key global markets, its first commercialized hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in calendar year 2015, or sooner. Finally, by the end of 2012, Toyota will add seven all new (not next-generation) hybrid models to its portfolio.
