How do you get your team to say "diamond" if you can't say "baseball, ring, carats, jewel or engagement?" You might say, "These are a girl's best friend...The World Series is played here...Some are found in the rough..."Give suggestive sentences, funny phrases or even one-word hints as clues. But don't use any of the words on the card - that would be Taboo! Each time your team shouts out the secret word, you get a point. It's unspeakably fun - take o... Read more

This game is the ultimate party game! I have owned the game of Taboo for about five years now and, believe it or not.

N E W Y E A R S EVE ENTERTAINING GUIDE
Planning to spend New Years Eve at home this year? According to a recent survey commissioned by Hasbro, 88 percent of partygoers would rather be ringing in the New Year at home with friends than standing in Times Square watching the ball drop. If you are among this group and are hosting a New Years Eve party at your home, Hasbro wants to take the guesswork out of your planning. Reference this checklist and make your gathering a night to remember!
Save money, and time, by hanging existing holiday decorations around your party space, such as excess garland or tree lights, to create a themed room where guests will want to congregate. Splurge on disposable table coverings, cups, plates and glasses with a New Years design for a fun decoration, while protecting your furniture and cutting back on clean up at the end of the night.

SNACKS AND DRINKS

SNACKABLE FUN:
As friends and family hop from party to party, make your preparation go smoothly by setting out hot and cold finger foods rather than a large meal. Consider adding pigs in a blanket, scallops wrapped in bacon, and chips and dip to the menu. Offer candy to those who have a sweet tooth.

FESTIVE DECORATIONS:

FOR ALL TO TOAST:
Whether your party is large or small, clear plenty of space for your guests to mingle and place food, drinks and entertainment. Store magazines, coffee table books and knickknacks from the living area in a nearby room not being used for the party. In the kitchen place unused kitchen appliances, such as toasters and mixers, in cabinets to create more counter space.

DE-CLUTTER SURFACES:

Be prepared with a variety of beverage options for your guests, especially if youre expecting younger celebrants. A sherbet punch is always well received. Sodas, juices and water are also must-haves. For an added treat, grab a tub of ice cream to make root beer or orange soda floats. Dont forget the champagne and sparkling cider for midnight!
During this long night, do your guests a favor and offer plenty of seating options. Whether using existing couches, stools or chairs, be sure to make seating accessible to the group. Consider bringing in chairs or cushions from other rooms to provide for additional seeding.

LAYOUT:

On the party invitation, ask guests to bring their favorite snack or beverage to contribute to the festivities. Theyll have something that they like, and youll have one less thing to get at the grocery store.
Music is a New Years must-have as it sets the mood of the party. Prior to the big night, create an upbeat music mix on a CD or iPod playlist comprised of your favorites, as well as dance tunes. Remember to include plenty of back up songs on your music collection to cater to different tastes, moods and activities. To make your guests feel extra special, find songs that include their names in the title and theyll be happy that they came. Classics include Come On Eileen and Sweet Caroline.

ACCESSORIES

It wouldnt be a New Years Eve celebration with out the noisemakers, hats and beads! Stop by your local party store and buy these accessories in bulk to save on cost. Hosting the party next year? Save these goodies in a box and use them again.

SET THE TONE WITH TUNES:

NEW YEARS EVE APPAREL:
LOVE GAMES BUT NOT QUITE SURE HOW TO MAKE THE INTRODUCTION?
If you are REALLY looking to step up the fun, bring out games to get the crowd going. Here are a few suggestions to get the gaming started.
STRATEGICALLY PLACE GAMES AROUND THE ROOM: When setting up for the party, place games that are easy to pick up and play on side tables, by the food areas or on a shelf where all can see. SCATTERGORIES is a great way to start the evening, especially for those who are witty and quick to think on their feet. This game can be played with small or large groups, and is quick to learn. To drum up a crowd and draw more people into game play, try ELECTRONIC CATCH PHRASE, which has partygoers rushing to describe the word or phrase on the handheld game unit in hopes that teammates will guess correctly. As the timer seeds up, the more hilarious the clues become. Also try JENGA, SCRABBLE SLAM or RUBIKS 360 to get guests interested in games.
the game even livelier by organizing the group in teams of men vs. women, or couple vs. couple. Creative partygoers who have a knack for drawing will come out of their shell to show off their sketching ability over rounds of PICTIONARY, the classic quick draw game. Also try BOP-IT! or CRANIUM to turn the conversations into laughter!
BE BOLD! Even if your guests arent known to play games frequently, go out on a limb and bring out a game. Choose a game that allows guests to get loud and act silly, and everyone will want to join in. For a raucous crowd, divide into two teams for a hysterical game of TABOO. In this game of unspeak able fun, guests will be challenged to try to describe and guess words without saying the TABOO word if you do, prepare for the opposing team to press the TABOO buzzer for all to hear! For the close knit group, THE GAME OF THINGS allows partiers to be silly and use creative license as they write down the wackiest thing that comes to mind when hearing phrases such as Thingsyou shouldnt do in public, leaving everyone to guess who said what. You wont believe the things your friends will say!

SUGGEST PLAYING GAMES WHEN THERE IS A LULL IN THE CONVERSATION. If your guests seem to be searching for things to chat about, dont be afraid to provide a group suggestion to play games - youll be surprised how many people will respond with an enthusiastic yes! For those who love to collect fun little tidbits of trivia, let them impress the crowd with random knowledge when playing TRIVIAL PURSUIT Team Edition. Make

Lisa Over Review Game: Math Concept Clues Review Game: Math Concept Clues Description Math Concept Clues is a review game that focuses on math terminology, concepts, formulas, and procedures. Students will be assigned to one of two teams. As a group, members from each team will decide on a team name. Each team will take turns selecting a clue-giver who has one minute to describe a math concept and get his or her teammates to name it correctly. For example, for the concept Midpoint, the clue-giver may give the following clue: A point that divides a line segment in half. If anyone says midpoint before the time runs out, the clue-givers team gets a point. Members from the opposing team must pay attention quietly, because they will have a chance to name the concept and to earn a point if the clue-givers team fails to name it correctly in the allotted time. Objectives The objectives of Math Concept Clues are to learn a new game and follow the rules, to review important math skills and content, and to learn good sportsmanship. Resources Large index cards Timer Buzzer
Clue Cards On each index card, I will write a math term or the name of a concept, formula, or procedure that I want the class to review. I will sketch or paste an illustration of the concept to help students remember what it is. I will also add Extra Help clues on the back, which will include key words or phrases that will help students who are struggling with describing their concept. Clue-giver and Moderators The clue-giver will sit at a desk or table at the front of the room. I will construct a barrier so other students cannot see the clue card. Two moderators from the opposing team will sit on either side of the clue-giver. Their jobs are to keep track of the time, make sure the clue-giver does not say the actual name of the concept, and tally the points.

Lisa Over Review Game: Math Concept Clues I will select a new clue-giver and two new moderators at random for each round. I will alternate between the two teams. Because there are two moderators for each round, students will moderate twice as many times as they will give clues. Rules 1. All students must treat teammates and members of the opposing team with respect and kindness. If a student is mean, disrespectful, or obnoxious toward anyone, that students team will receive a foul and lose a turn. 2. If the clue-givers team correctly names the concept in the allotted time, the clue-givers team earns a point. 3. If the clue-giver does not use the Extra Help part of the card, his or her team earns an additional point if they name the concept correctly before the time runs out. 4. If the clue-giver says the name of the concept, the moderator will sound the buzzer. The opposing team then has a chance to name the concept for a point. 5. If the clue-givers team fails to name the concept before the time runs out, the opposing team has a chance to name it for a point. 6. If a member from the opposing team shouts out the answer before time runs out for the cluegivers team, the point is awarded to the clue-givers team. Variation Another way to play this game is to create Clue Cards that have the concept name and description without any illustration. Instead of describing their concept in words to their teammates, students draw a picture on the board to represent their concept. Students can label the picture but must omit the name of the concept. Students cannot give verbal clues in this version. Teammates have one minute to guess the name of the concept based on the drawing.
