Kawasaki KX 65 Lowering Linkage - Rear Suspension
TOOLS NEEDED: Tape Measure, 17mm wrench, 17mm ratchet and socket, Bike stand
The Tamer KX 65 lowering linkage system allows the user 4 choices of settings regarding seat height for your little racer. As racer grows, you can adjust the linkage system accordingly without affecting the rear shock travel and keeping them in complete control while boosting their confidence. Included in the package are 2 quantity red arms, 2 quantity offset inserts with large hole towards center and 2 quantity offset inserts with large hole offset to 1 side. Setting A Stock height Setting B 2.5 (83mm) lower than stock Setting C 1 (25mm) lower than stock Setting D 1.5 (38mm) lower than stock Step 1: Remove stock existing linkage arms from both sides. Step 2: Decide which level of lowering you want to start with. (See Fig. 1). This can be done by having your racer set on the bike with the stock linkage in place still with their legs hanging to the ground. While someone holds them upright on the bike, measure the distance from the bottom of their feet to the ground.
This configuration is 2.5 or 83mm lower than stock
This configuration is stock
This configuration is 1 OR 25mm lower than stock
This configuration is 1.5 or 38mm lower than stock Hole #1

FIG. 1

Step 3: Once the level of lowering is decided, place the stock suspension bolt through Hole #1 (Fig 2) and slide bolt back in to linkage from the shifter side of the motorcycle. Hole #1 (Fig 2) goes in the rear linkage hole on the motorcycle. Now place the second arm onto the same bolt on the brake side of linkage and thread stock nut to hold everything in place. DO NOT tighten the nut with tools yet, only snug it up to the parts. VERY IMPORTANT: The bolt head and the nut will fit into the recesses on the red arms (Fig 3). The flat side of the arms mounts against the linkage.

Step 4: Place the insert into the red linkage arm on the shifter side of motorcycle. Make sure it is positioned correctly for the desired lowering height that you decided. Swing it into place and start the bolt into the linkage. Do Not push the bolt all the way through as then you will not be able to swing the 2nd arm into place. Step 5: Now place the 2nd insert in the other red linkage arm on the brake side of the motorcycle, swing the arm into place and finish pushing the stock bolt through. Make sure the insert did not fall out of place on the first side. If all is in place, install the stock nut on the stock bolt and tighten all bolts. You are now ready to ride. MOTOCROSS

Xtreme Team Green

The new season for Team Green kicked off this year just like the prior 25 years at the Unlimited Sports Winter National Olympics. What was different about this years Mini Os was that it effectively introduced the New Team Green motocross program, which was previewed at last summers Loretta Lynns National with great success.

Dave Gowland

Whats so new about Team Greens Motocross Program, you ask? Prior to last year, no fewer than 70 riders were considered in-house or factory-direct supported riders. These were riders who would directly contact Kawasaki in order to arrange their sponsorships, get parts, bikes, have engines built and re-built, etc. The remainder of the Team Green riders were handled by their local dealerships, which when it came to support at the big national races, was not
24 Inside Team Green / www.kawasaki.com
the ideal way to go. Dave Gowland came in as motocross supervisor for the 2006 season with a few new ideas, and the results so far have been overwhelmingly positive. The first impression of the changes made it appear that the program overall was down-sized, when in fact its been refocused and intensified. To start with, Gowland decreased the number of in-house, factory-direct supported riders down to 30. The reasoning is simple: focus more effort on
the riders who not only have shown the skill and determination to win national championships on Kawasaki's, but have also shown the ability and desire to travel and be ready for all of the big national races. According to Gowland, "The number one goal for these riders is to win national titles, or at the least, end up on the box at all of
the big amateur national races. Our factory-direct racers were contracted not only to show up at the big races, but to be prepared and ready to win. And by focusing on a smaller group for in-house support, Team Greens staff is much more able to provide them with the support and product that they need in order to make that happen. So far, the results indicate that the program is a success. The updated program made somewhat of a debut at Loretta Lynns last August, where Team Green riders took home an astounding 14 national titles up from only 5
the year before. Most recently, in what is considered the first race of the 2007 season, the Unlimited Sports Winter National Olympics results were equally impressive 18 titles fell into the hands of Team Green riders. Prior to that, the results from Texas, Vegas and Ponca City further made the point - in other words: So far, so good! What does this mean for the rest of the Team Green-supported riders who fell away from the in-house deal? It means better support, and possibly even more dominance on a local and regional level. Another of Gowlands directives pushed local and regional support back out to the Team Green dealer network, allowing a much more localized method of distributing parts, bikes and technical know-how. In a sense, it pushes the program back to its roots, so to speak, in that local dealers are now once again much more a part of the day-to-day racing program of the fastest local and regional Kawasaki racers. What it also does is allow riders who may not necessarily want to travel to the national-level races (where their skill level may not be top-3 or championship level) to focus on local and regional races, where theyre most likely already regular winners or front-runners. In doing so, these racers can take advantage of Kawasakis awesome contingency program which will help them pay off their heavily discounted bikes and cover many travel expenses. For a solid local or regional amateur, this program will essentially allow for a free racing career, which can perhaps even become profitable once the move to the A or money classes occurs. There is no expectation to travel to all of the Lorettas Regionals, for instance, or for a fast local New England racer to be prepped and ready to trav-

el out to Texas for the spring nationals at Oak Hill and Mosier Valley trips that can put the average racing family into a tough financial position, and which often leads to mediocre results. At this point we have about 160 kids receiving a very significant amount of support all over the country, Gowland says. They receive a great deal on new KX motorcycles, a parts allowance, and they can concentrate on earning as much money as possible from the contingency program without the worry of traveling to the nationals. It is the best way to support this level of rider, and based on what Im seeing from their results, its working well. But success can be measured in a number of ways, some tangible like results at the national and local level and some intangible such as the perception of the team by its riders and other racers and families. With the new Team Green motocross program, Gowland hopes to have both of those bases covered. Part of what I wanted to achieve with the new inhouse portion of the program is to bring back the feeling that to be a Team Green rider was truly the ultimate example of success in amateur racing, he says, adding. I really wanted to bring back some of the luster that for so long had been associated with being a Team Green rider, but that seemed to have been lost somewhere over the past several years. Furthermore, Gowland continues to spread the family-feel thats made Team Green such a homecoming for so many riders throughout its history. The feeling that Kawasaki riders and their families truly are part of something bigger than themselves, and that extends to everyone at the track, not just those who happen to be on green bikes. I try to make a point of congratulating every rider of a good performance, regardless of what brand theyre riding," says Gowalnd. "I still think its important for everyone to know that were here not only because we want to sell more motorcycles, but because we deeply love and depend on this sport. And were here to do everything in our power to make everyones experience at the race track as positive as possible. With an attitude like that, and a group of riders and families as solid as Team Green currently has under his helm, Dave Gowland and Team Greens 2007 motocross program is a winner before the gate even drops.
