I have 3 friends who all own this camera and have borrowed it for a cople times. very good camera. A+ I am a amateur photographer at best and have used this camera now for about 12 months and am very impressed. I am a professional photographer and I use the 300D (digital rebel) as my primary camera. It is a fabulous camera, I truly reccomend it to anyone.

The manual that accompanies the camera while showing you the basics of the unit does a poor job of telling you what can be done. This is a nice camera, very professional, easy to use.  Buy an extra battery pack keep it charged for emergency shots.

EOS 300D is the first Canon digital SLR to support a new lens called EF-S (S = short back focus). Of more than 50 compatible Canon EF and the EF-S lens, EOS system is fully compatible with attachment.

Canon EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel) Digital SLR Camera Metering modes
The Canon EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel) digital SLR camera uses six different approaches to light metering. These are automatically applied in accordance with (a) the current shooting mode, (b) whether the metering is of ambient or flash illumination (both being involved in a flash shot), (c) whether the metering is done in the regular course of shooting or during a preliminary exposure lock (AEL or FEL), and (d) whether the lens is set to automatic or manual focus (AF or MF). The user has no control over metering mode other than through the choice of these operational alternatives. The assignment of modes is shown in the following table. In the table, the metering modes are indicated as follows; the symbols are my own: Eval-F Eval-C E-TTL Average CWA Partial 35-segment evaluative, selected focus point(s) emphasis 35-segment evaluative, center emphasis [1] 35-segment evaluative through-the-lens flash metering [2] 35-segment uniform average (only applies to flash metering) 35-segment center-weighted average Partial (central cross only measured)
Metering Ambient illumination [3] Shooting mode All but M M Eval-F Eval-C CWA CWA Flash illumination (if applicable) [3] Shooting mode All but M M E-TTL Average E-TTL Average
Metering Regular Exposure lock (AEL or FEL)

Notes:

Focus AF MF
for AEL (available only if no flash enabled) [4]
for FEL (available only if flash enabled) [4]
Partial (ambient form) Partial (ambient form)
Partial (flash form) Partial (flash form)
[1] This differs from the normal Evaluative metering mode (called here Eval-F) in that emphasis is always on an area in the center of the frame rather than on an area around each selected focus point. [2] The metering pattern for E-TTL is essentially the same as for Evaluative ambient metering (Eval-F), and emphasizes the area around the selected focus point(s). [3] With a flash enabled, both ambient and flash metering operations are performed. [4] Exposure lock (AEL or FEL) is only available in Creative Zone shooting modes; metering does not vary by shooting mode. Thanks to Chuck Westfall, Director, Technical Information Department, Canon U.S.A., for the underlying information upon which this table is based. I however take full responsibility for its interpretation and presentation and for any errors in doing so. Douglas A. Kerr

Full description

The EOS Digital Rebel incorporates a Canon-developed 6.3-megapixel large-area high-resolution CMOS sensor and Canon's exclusive DIGIC Image Processor, which realizes exceeding image-processing speed and precision to fully utilize the performance potential of the sensor. This advanced technology works in concert to realize outstanding image quality and definition, and more natural color reproduction to satisfy the requirements of a broad user base. The EOS Digital Rebel offers advanced shooting features, including a high-speed 7-point wide area autofocus (AF) with focusing points superimposed in the viewfinder, making accurate framing simple; Continuous Shooting at approximately 2.5 frames per second for a burst of up to four shots; and the ability to record JPEG images in one of six formats or as a 12-bit RAW file. Moreover, when a RAW image is captured the EOS Digital Rebel simultaneously records and stores a JPEG image (Medium/Fine) within the RAW data, enabling users to view or transmit the compressed JPEG image quickly while also retaining maximum image quality for future editing. Employing high-density mounting technology and a new chassis and outer-casing configuration with fewer parts, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel realizes the smallest and lightest body in the EOS DIGITAL series. In addition to compact proportions, the camera's design contributes to outstanding usability, concentrating such operating controls as the mode dial and electronic dial on the right-hand side for one-handed operation of most shooting functions. The EOS Digital Rebel is compatible with the PictBridge industry standard for the direct printing of photos from digital cameras. As a result, users can connect the camera directly to any printer enabled for PictBridge, regardless of brand, and output photos (JPEG) without having to use a computer.
