There are many 2.1 (Twin satellite and subwoofer) speaker sets available from a multitude of manufacturers in price ranges to suit most pockets. In general they are designed for small rooms and for easy connection to PCs (or Apple Macs) or other audio sources. Edifier, a company whose products we have reviewed a number of timed in the past and been pleasantly impressed, have recently released the Edifier Prisma E3350 2.1 speaker set and we were lucky enough to obtain a set for testing.
As with the other Edifier speakers we have reviewed in the past, the design of the speaker casing is anything but mainstream, with a central, almost pyrimidal subwoofer and two satellites, all finished in a high gloss white finish. The subwoofer has a separate volume control and also harbours the power button on its' top which is surrounded by a red "halo". The red "halo" theme is continued on the wired controller which gives access to volume control, as well as additional line in and headphones ports. The remainder of the ports are located at the rear of the subwoofer and Edifier provides a long cable for connection of your chosen devices (all of the cables have gold plated jacks). The construction of the units is specifically designed to minimise vibration with all components effectively insulated with foam bases and all speakers are magnetically shielded. Specifications

In our tests sound quality was very good for the price, with clear mid and high frequencies and good thumping bass (dependent on the separate volume control used for the sub-woofer). The foam built in to the base of each speaker minimised any vibration through the casing. Even at
higher volume we noted very little if any distortion and the power output for the system should fill any but the biggest rooms.
The Edifier Prisma would make an excellent speaker set for use with both computers as desktop speakers (although you would need room for the subwoofer, the satellites would fit nicely on most computer desks and the separate volume control and inputs make plugging additional sources or headphones simple) or just as a standalone set of speakers for the living rooms for use with your mp3 player or even smartphone. The only slight drawback is the need to reach around the back of the subwoofer everytime you want to change its volume, it would have been much better to have had this as a separate volume control on the separate wired controller.
All in all for the 90 price tag (at the time of writing), the units provides reasonable value for money with solid speaker casing and a good audio repoduction.
