Tann' 'Integrated
Loudspeaket' S5tstttm
ithis systemis a highly developed and refined version the Tannoy loudspeaker. It utilises the dual concentric principle to provide an integrated sound sourcewhich, over the past quarter of a century, has becomean establishedquality referencein recording, broadcastingand television studios. The Tannoy systemcombinesa precision built high horn driver with a direct frequencycompression radiator bassunit embodyingthe unique Girdacoustic* reinforced cone. Thesetwo drivers are mounted concentrically on a single frame and magnet assembly. They are driven through a sophisticatedseparatecrossovernetwork creating a system covering the entire frequency range from 2DHzto 20KHz. Distortion products are negligible, and the wide, smooth frequency range with excellent transient responseresult in very natural reproduction and an almost total lack of colouration. Sensitivity is high. A 20 watt amplifier used with the smaller systemis more than adequatefor normal domestic purposes. This sensitivity, combined with high pou/erhandling capacity, makes the larger units ideal for the most sophisticated professional or homeinstallations.
The Crossover Network
*on HPD315A and HPD385A only.
The Tannoy crossovernetwork dividesthe electrical energy from the amplifier betweenthe high frequency driver and the low frequencydirect compression radiator and makes a vital contribution to the overall performance of the system. It incorporatestwo controls. One permits attenuation of the treble energy output only in the range above 1KHz. The other allows the output of the high frequency unit to be increased or attenuated over its entire range from LKHzto 20KHz, compensatingfor room acoustics and individual preference. to The crossoveris assembled the very highest standards on a fibreglassprinted circuit board. Solid dielectric capacitors are usedthroughout and all resistors and inductors are very generously rated. The design ofthe crossoverensuresthat the completeloudspeaker system has an excellent impedancecharacteristic which provides the ideal load for any amplifier.
This is the smallestfreestandingcabinet in the Tannoy rang rd usesthe HPD315Asystem.The enclosure/louuspeaker combination achieves remarkably solid bass, while the high power handling capacity and extendedtreble response ofthe HPD315Aput this model in a categorymore usually associatedwith professional equipment. Elegantly proportionedand modestlyscaled, the Cheviot has beencreatedto fit easily into today's smaller living spaces. It offers the high fidelity enthusiast all of the qualities of a fine home furnishing in addition to superlative technical performance.
The largest bookshelfenclosurein the Tannoy range is ed with the HPD315AIntegrated Loudspeaker Sysremhandling 60 watts. This, combinedwith high sensitivity, provides a standard of performance superior to many large freestanding systems.Very rigld cabinet construction with a complete absenceof random leaks, together with critical internal damping and a ducted basspo, provide smooth, extendedbassto complementthe outstanding treble responseof the high frequency compressiondriver. The performance of this type of systemhas led to its selection as a mobile studio monitor by major recording and broadcasting authorities throughout the world.
The performanceof the Eaton setsan enti'^ly new standardfor bookshelfsystems.Power h, ling capacity of 50 watts combinedwith the high sensitivity of the HPD295Amake the Eaton superior to many larger loudspeakers costing more and requiring much higher driving power. The po and carefully adjusted enclosure'sd,ucted internal acousticfoam damping provide bass response out of all proportion to its size. This outstanding systemenablesthose with only limited spaceto enjoy the full range natural sound which over the years has becomeassociated with the name of Tannoy.
