HP StorageWorks 60 Modular Smart Array
The HP StorageWorks 60 Modular Smart Array enclosure is a 2U Serial Attach SCSI (SAS) disk drive storage enclosure supporting 3.5 inch SAS, Serial ATA (SATA) and SAS Midline (MDL) drives. This enclosure delivers industry-leading data performance, availability, storage density, and upgradeability to meet customers' demanding and growing storage needs. This enclosure is designed to support 3.5 inch Universal SAS, SATA or SAS MDL hard drive form factors. The MSA60 enclosure supports direct attach storage (DAS) to HP ProLiant and HP Integrity Servers. The MSA60 supports the cascading of shelves in a 1+3 configuration to allow a maximum of 48 drives in an 8U configuration behind each of the two external ports on the HP Smart Array P800, the HP Smart Array E500, HP Smart Array P411 or the HP Smart Array P812 Controllers for a total of 96 drives in 8 enclosures (this single controller port incorporates four lanes for a total max throughput of 12Gb/s for SAS). On HP ProLiant servers Dual Domain support is available for the HP Smart Array P800 attached to a MSA60 with the addition of the HP StorageWorks Dual Domain I/O Module Option (AG779A). (Single initiator environment only). (NOTE: Smart Array P411 and P812 Controllers are supported on ProLiant NOTE: servers only). The MSA60 also supports the HP Smart Array P600 and the HP Smart Array P212 Controllers. Behind the single external port on the HP Smart Array P600 or the P212 Controllers 1+3 cascading allows a maximum of 48 drives in an 8U configuration. (NOTE: NOTE: Smart Array P212 Controller is supported on ProLiant servers only). For HP-UX and Open VMS environments on HP Integrity Servers the MSA60 supports the HP (AH303A) SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter with the addition of the HP StorageWorks Dual Domain I/O Module Option (AG779A). Behind the single external port on the HP (AH303A) SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter 1+3 cascading allows a maximum of 48 drives in an 8U configuration. The HP (AH303A) SC44Ge Host Bust Adapter will only support HP-UX and Open VMS environments and will be available on all rack mounted HP Integrity Servers with PCIe slots. The addition of the I/O Module with the HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter adds support for Multi Initiator JBOD Clusters. It will support HP-UX and Open VMS on selected HP Integrity servers only. The MSA60 with the I/O Module and the HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter will not support ProLiant servers. Multi Initiator JBOD clusters are supported with dual port SAS drives only. Support for HP Serviceguard software on HP-UX with HP-UX 11iv2/11iv3 only. HP Serviceguard monitors the health of each node and rapidly responds to failures in a way that minimizes or eliminates application downtime. NOTE: HP Integrity servers that are supported: rx2660, rx3600, rx6600, rx7640, rx8640, Superdome sx2000 (only the version that support PCI-e cards)

Storage Capacity - The MSA60 enclosure supports up to 12 SAS drives for a maximum capacity of 7.2 TB SAS drives or 24 TB with SATA or SAS MDL drives Data Protection - MSA60 is designed for a high level of data protection. It includes redundant fans and power supplies (standard), and support for various RAID level including RAID6 with ADG (depending upon the Smart Array Controller used) Dual Domain - Dual domain SAS creates redundant pathways from servers to storage devices. The redundant paths created by these configurations reduce or eliminate single points of failure within the storage network. This provides increased levels of high availability with redundant paths from the controller to the drives. Storage Manageability - The MSA60 features familiar configuration and management tools such as Array Configuration Utility (ACU) and HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM). Low Total Cost of Ownership
The modular, scalable design of the MSA60 provides an extremely flexible platform. You can buy what you need today and purchase additional capacity as your data storage needs grow, instead of making a large up-front investment. Additional drives and enclosures can be easily added as your needs dictate. Cascading - The MSA60 has the unique capability of cascading up to 4 - four enclosures behind a single SAS port (depends on the Smart Array Controller). Tiered Storage - MSA60 supports mixing SAS and SATA drives in the same enclosure, allowing you to more effectively utilize mission critical storage where you need it most. Universal SATA Hard Drive - Since the MSA60 supports HP Universal SATA drives, your investment in disk drives is protected and cost is minimized as you add new drives. Pre-Failure Warranty - Drives installed in a MSA60 and monitored under HP Systems Insight Manager are supported by a Pre-Failure (replacement) Warranty (3 years for SAS and 1 year for SAS MDL and SATA drives). Pre-Failure Warranty allows for the replacement of designated drives in MSA60 before they actually fail when using HP Systems Insight Manager on HP ProLiant or HP Integrity servers. NOTE: Some operating systems may not support all of these features. Integrated Configuration and Management Tools - The MSA60 utilizes the standard, integrated set of Smart Array management and utility software for HP ProLiant Servers. These tools consistently lower the cost of ownership by reducing training and technical expertise necessary to install and maintain HP server storage. Several fault tolerant configurations keep data available and servers running while drives are being replaced RAID levels that offer fault tolerance include: RAID 50 (RAID 5+0) protects against failure of one drive (and failure of particular multiple drives). RAID 50 is a nested RAID method that uses RAID 0 striping across RAID 5 arrays. RAID 50 tolerates one drive failure in each spanned array without loss of data. RAID 50 requires less rebuild time than single RAID 5 arrays RAID 50 requires a minimum of six drives. RAID 60 (RAID 6+0) allows administrators to split the RAID 6 storage across multiple external boxes. RAID 60 requires a minimum of eight drives. RAID 60 is a nested RAID method that uses RAID 0 block-level striping across multiple RAID 6 arrays with dual distributed parity. With the inclusion of dual parity, RAID 60 will tolerate the failure of two disks in each spanned array without loss of data. ADG: RAID 6 with ADG Allocates the equivalence of two parity drives across multiple drives and allows simultaneous write operations.Distributed Data Guarding (RAID 5): Allocates parity data across multiple drives and allows simultaneous write operations.Drive Mirroring (RAID 1 and 1+0 Striped Mirroring): Allocates half of the drive array to data and the other half to mirrored data, providing two copies of every file.

Dual Domain (NEW)

Dual domain SAS creates redundant pathways from servers to storage devices. The redundant paths created by these configurations reduce or eliminate single points of failure within the storage network. This provides increased levels of high availability with redundant paths from the controller to the drives. Dual domain SAS implementations make it possible to tolerate host bus adapter (HBA) failure, external cable failure, expander failure, failure in a spanned disk (JBOD) environments.

Three-year limited parts only warranty, including hardware diagnostic support, pre-failure warranty (coverage of hard drives, memory and processors). The warranty is fully supported by HP Services and a worldwide network of resellers and service providers. In addition 90-day's getting started software telephone support may be covered under the warranty or available for an additional fee. Enhancements to warranty services are available through HP Care Pack services. NOTE: The MSA60 has a limited 3 year parts only warranty. The SAS drives have a 3 year warranty. HP StorageWorks MSA60/70 I/O module Installation instructions for dual domain congurations

Before you begin

CAUTION: When handling system components, there is a danger to equipment from electrostatic discharge (ESD). Use proper anti-static protection at all times: Keep the component in the ESD bag until needed. Wear an ESD wrist strap grounded to an unpainted surface of the chassis. Touch an unpainted surface of the chassis before handling the component. Never touch connector pins.
IMPORTANT: Upgrading to a dual I/O module conguration requires a rmware update. Because a rmware update requires a restart of the MSA, perform the update during a scheduled maintenance window. Depending on your environment, the rmware update may require use of a USB storage device and the HP ProLiant Firmware Maintenance CD.
Determining installed rmware versions
Use a server-based tool such as the HP System Management Homepage, HP Systems Insight Manager, or Management Agents to determine rmware versions currently installed on MSA and server components.

Obtaining the latest rmware
1. Go to the HP support website http://www.hp.com/support. 2. Navigate to the Download drivers and software page for the MSA60 or MSA70. 3. Locate downloads for the MSA60/70 I/O module rmware and the Firmware Maintenance CD ISO image (contains array controller rmware). 4. For each download, click the title in the Description column to display detailed information about the download. Read all of the information in the displayed tabs, making sure to click the Installation Instructions tab to learn how to obtain and also how to install the download. 5. If available downloads are more recent than installed versions, obtain the downloads as directed on their Installation Instructions tabs.

Installing the I/O module
1. Schedule a maintenance window and stop all I/O to the MSA. 2. Remove the I/O module blank: a. Squeeze the I/O module blank thumb latch (1) and rotate the latch handle down (2). b. Pull the I/O module blank straight out of the chassis (3).

Cabling the enclosures

Use the following illustrations as guidelines for connecting the SAS cables in your dual domain conguration. NOTE: A variety of controllers are supported for use with the MSA60/70, with different levels of support for cascaded enclosures. See the MSA60 or MSA70 QuickSpecs for details.
Figure 1 Dual domain cabling, P800 controller and 1 MSA 3. Install the I/O module: a. Squeeze the thumb latch on the new I/O module and rotate the latch handle down. b. Slide the I/O module into the chassis. The handle automatically rotates up and clicks when the I/O module latch is locked into place. NOTE: Conrm that the I/O module is seated properly by pressing rmly on the I/O module after the latch handle has clicked.

Updating the rmware

Update rmware on the MSA and/or server using the les and instructions obtained in Obtaining the latest rmware. NOTE: In large-scale cascaded congurations, the I/O module update may appear to halt and may take up to 120 minutes to complete. Allow time for the update to complete and do not interrupt the update process.
Verifying I/O module status
Verify that the I/O module LED is green. Verify that the seven-segment board does not display any error messages.
After the updates are complete, restart the storage system, and then restart I/O to the MSA.
