A new era of power. For decades, the coupes of Mercedes -Benz have reignited driving passion with dramatic breakthroughs in performancefrom fuel injection in the 1950s to the Electronic Stability Program (ESP ) in the 1990s. For 2011, a new generation of leaner, meaner and cleaner engines debuts with the CL550s 429hp 4.6liter V8. Its twin turbochargers spin up to 150,000rpm to boost low -end torque by as much as 45%. New high-pressure Direct Injection microscopically fine-tunes the fuel spray, while rapid-multispark ignition fires up to 4,000 times per secondsqueezing more thrust, and fewer emissions, from every atom of gasoline. And as its AIRMATIC suspension turns compressed air into calm composure, and its 4matic all-wheel drive hugs the road, the CL550 reminds you how refreshing change can be.
Action. With 429hp and 516lb ft of peak torque, the
CL550 rockets from 0 to 60mph in just 4.8seconds.1 Standard 4matic all-wheel drive continually redistributes torque to the wheels with the best grip, for commanding confidence in any season.2 The rear-wheel-drive CL600s twin-turbo V12 outputs 510 hp and 612lb ft of torque.
Reaction. The CL550 delivers the silky - smooth response
of a 7 speed automatic transmission. A robust 5 speed automatic deftly manages the CL600s staggering torque. The elegant electronic selector operates with fingertip ease. Driver- adaptive logic keeps pace with your driving style, or take charge with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Attraction. Strong yet lightweight alloy wheels capture
your attention as compellingly as they conquer corners. Bold 5 spoke 18" wheels are standard on the CL550, while options include multispoke 19" wheels, 10spoke 20" wheels (shown), and either 19" or 20" AMG 5spoke wheels as part of the two available Sport Packages.3

Body structure. Even without visible B -pillars, the CL Class body structure achieves exceptional rigidity. Extensive use of ultra-high and high-strength steel in critical areas helps it manage both weight and impact forces. Advanced crumple zones help dissipate impact energy over, under and around the reinforced passenger cabin. Standard 11-way air bag protection. A system of nine air bags offers 11-way protection.4 Every CLClass features dual-stage front air bags, a drivers knee air bag, front and rear side-impact air bags, and side curtain air bags for all four seats. Every seat belt is equipped with an Emergency Tensioning Device (ETD) and belt-force limiter. Brighter lighting. All -LED taillamps provide quicker illumination of the brake lamps than conventional bulbs, potentially reducing the reaction time of drivers behind you. Standard Bi Xenon headlamps feature Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assistan innovation that continuously varies the headlamp range to maximize illumination without creating glare for other drivers. Bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps maximize visibility with minimal energy draw. Night View Assist PLUS with Pedestrian Detection. When
youre driving in darkness, this innovative option 5 projects invisible infrared beams and reads them with a special camera. The system displays a clearer, supplemental real-time view of the road ahead on an in- dash 8" screen positioned directly in front of the driver. It can even help to identify and point out pedestrians.6
PRE- SAFE. During certain vehicle maneuvers, the exclusive PRESAFE system can detect instability suggesting that a collision or rollover is imminent. PRESAFE can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and close the windows and sunroofall in an effort to better prepare the occupants.7 DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE- SAFE Brake. Another breakthrough first introduced by Mercedes-Benz, this active cruise control option5 adapts your set speed in response to traffic ahead. It automatically slowsor even stopsyour car, and then resumes when your path is clear again.8 The system also includes PRESAFE Brake, whose radar-based sensors can detect an impending collision with the vehicle ahead. PRESAFE Brake automatically applies up to 100% of the cars braking power to help reduce the severity of impact.9 ATTENTION ASSIST. By continually monitoring numerous driving

behaviors, this Mercedes - Benz innovation can audibly and visually alert the driver if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips.10
Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist.
These optional systems 5 can warn the driver of unintended drifting across visible lane markings10 andat speeds above 20mphalert the driver to some unseen vehicles in the adjacent lane.11 Should the driver disregard these alerts, new active technology for 2011 allows either system to help guide the car back into its own lane by gently applying the brakes to specific wheels.

SPEEDSHIFT transmissions. A 7speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic in the CL63AMG offers three driving modes:
Controlled Efficiency, Sport and a paddle - shifted Manual mode with lightning - quick 100 - millisecond shifts. A wet startup clutch eliminates the power losses of a traditional torque converter. The reinforced 5 speed SPEEDSHIFT automatic of the CL65AMG offers Sport, Comfort and Manual modes that also reprofile the throttle and suspension.
AMG -enhanced chassis. The Active Body Control (ABC) fully active suspension features AMG - specific calibration and selectable Sport and Comfort modes. In its firmest setting, ABC virtually eliminates body roll in corners. The adaptive brakes feature massive perforated, ventilated composite discs and dual front calipers. Lightweight yet highly rigid 20" AMG twin 5 spoke alloy wheelsforged on the CL65wear staggered-width high-performance tires.3 Race -bred refinement. It does not react to stationary objects, nor recognize or predict the curvature and lane layout of the road or the movement of vehicles ahead. It is the drivers responsibility at all times to be attentive to traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to retain control of the vehicle. Drivers are cautioned not to wait for the DISTRONIC Proximity Warning System before braking, as that may not afford sufficient time and distance to brake safely. After braking the car for stopped traffic ahead, system resumes automatically only if traffic pauses for less than 3seconds. 9 Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake maintenance, and tire and road conditions. 10 Driving while drowsy or distracted is dangerous and should be avoided.
