Setting up Your Printer

Your printer weighs approximately 61.7 lbs (28 kg) without the consumables and accessories. Be sure to have help when lifting and moving it.

Unpacking the Printer

5 "
We strongly suggest that you save the packaging materials in case you ever need to move or ship the printer.
After removing the consumables from the printer carton, use the following instructions to unpack your printer. With another persons help, lift the printer from the carton.
Do not tilt it more than 1 in any direction at any time. For best output quality and longest consumables life, place the printer on a hard, flat, level, stable surface capable of supporting about 153.5 lbs (69.6 kg) with all accessories and consumables, but not counting media.

Remove the tape from the printer.
Do not plug in the power cord until told to do so.
Installing the Toner Cartridge
The toner cartridge contains the OPC (Optical Photo Conductor) and toner that form the image that is developed and transferred to the media. Each toner cartridge comes with a prepaid UPS label inside the box so you can recycle the cartridge when it is empty.
The OPC is extremely sensitive to bright light, direct sunlight, and touch. Always leave the toner cartridge in its protective package until youre ready to install it. Any exposure to light should be limited to less than two minutes, or permanent damage could result.
Slide the top cover release lever to the right c, and open the top cover d.
Never touch the copper or brass electrodes c or electrical parts that are located inside the top cover and underneath the toner cartridge, as a printer malfunction can result.
Be careful not to touch d# around the image transfer roller (touching certain parts in this area may result in reduced print quality) or e around the fusing unit (since the inside reaches temperatures of about 392 F (200 C), touching any part in this area may result in burns).
Remove the new toner cartridge from its protective box. Peel off the packing tape.
Hold the toner cartridge by its handle c. Do not open the protective coverd of the OPC d (the green area e) or allow anything to come in contact with the OPC. It is extremely sensitive to hand oils and scratches, both of which reduce print quality. This type of damage is not covered by your warranty.
Slowly shake the toner cartridge, tilting it to the left and right 7 or 8 times to distribute the toner.
The toner is nontoxic. If you get toner on your hands, wash them in cool water and mild neutral detergent. If you get toner on your clothes, lightly dust them off as much as possible. If some toner remains on your clothes, use cool, not hot, water to rinse the toner off, provided your clothing is washable.
If you get toner in your eyes, wash it out immediately with cool water and consult a doctor. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) can be found at www.minolta-qms.com (click on Online Help & Drivers).
Align the tabs on the cartridge (one on each side) with the notches in the printer, and then insert the cartridge as far as possible into its compartment.
Close the top cover, pushing it down until it locks into place.

Do not transport the printer with the toner cartridge installed. If toner spills within the printer, decreased print quality may result or the printer may be damaged.
The toner cartridge should not be opened under any circumstances.
Installing the Exhaust Filter
Insert the exhaust filter in the exhaust port on the back of the printer.
If you will be installing an optional duplexer, it is not necessary to install the exhaust filter.

The media should fit easily between the guides. Improperly adjusted guides may cause poor print quality, media jams, or printer damage.
Install the media tray cover.
Insert the media tray as far as possible into the printer. It should snap into place.
Attach the appropriate media-size label to the the media tray.
Media-size labels are supplied with this printer.

Parts List PREFACE

1. The part numbers listed in this Parts List are those which were assigned to the parts making up the machine at the time machine was originally introduced onto the market. Parts whose INDEX numbers are shown white against a black background in the illustration are those to be used in only certain market areas. These part numbers are given in the lower half part of the list section. Check the SFIX No. listed in SFIX CHART to find which part number is applicable to your own area. Parts whose INDEX numbers are shown black against a white background in the illustration are those to be used in all market areas. These parts are listed on the upper half part of the list section. If "NS" follows a part number given in the list section, it indicates that we do not keep a stock of the part. The part is not required for ordinary service jobs, either. If "RP" is shown in the REC column of the list section, it indicates that the part is functionally important.
