"After my old Technics 110+1 cd player quit playing, research lead me to buy this model and I have not regretted it for a minute. "So glad I read reviews here and went with the Pioneer 300 changer. Mine works great. "It worked great for a while - until it was nonreturnable to the store. Now will only play certain CDs, the other skip and pop and sound horrendous.

This is a great CD player that will change your life. Biggest waste of money ever. Skips on every cd I own, including brand new ones.

Samsung Rear Projection TV Tips
These instructions have also been verified to work on some other models from Samsung including the 5414R. If you have something to add to this document that you know is correct please feel free to type it up in a document or email and send it to mixman@ssns.net and I will update the one on my domain now. Keep in mind that this is only what I have figured out on my own so far and is by no means a concise definitive reference. I CANNOT be held responsible for damage to your set as a result of your attempting anything outlined in this document. Proceed at your own risk. So far I have learned of 2 service menus on this set. I will outline the primary service menu first, and then I will outline the advanced convergence menu. These are accessed via the remote control. The first menu is the primary service menu, which I have not tried to figure out. I have documented all of the factory settings so if anyone wants to play with these you have the original settings to fall back on. Keep in mind that these settings are for my TV and your may be different, in which case I would strongly recommend that you document them before you change anything. If anyone knows what these settings are or have figured any of these out please email me what they are so I can update this document. I have not tried changing any of these on my set (Im too scared ). To access the primary service menu turn the TV off and press these buttons on your remote in this order. Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power. You should be presented with a menu with 8 categories of settings. Mine says at the top Service Normal, 480P this leads me to believe that this menu may affect only the input that was selected prior to entering the service menu, although I may be wrong on this. The categories are in BOLD below along with the options for each category. Ok thats the main service menu options. Now on with the part everyone really wants The advanced convergence menu. To access this menu start with the TV on, then on your remote press these buttons in order. Mute, 1, 8, 3, Power. You should be presented with a 64-point convergence screen. Ive found at least for me that this is best done about 6 feet from the screen with your head right in the middle. This takes some time so be forewarned. I spent an hour and a half on mine. On your remote the buttons are as follows. Note that these are what I have figured out on my own, so if call them something incorrect or I have something just totally wrong please email me at the adds above and let me know. 5 Reset to no convergence compensation (looks horrible) Reset to factory convergence settings (looks like when you first bought it) Reset to saved settings (your new settings) Toggles on and off a mode of moving the entire convergence pattern line when you press one of the arrow keys (channel up/down and volume up/down) Toggles on and off a fine adjustment mode that permits you to place the cursor on every intersection in the convergence pattern. However, this fine adjustment mode only works when adjusting the red or blue pattern. Therefore, you must first press 7 or 9 to select the red or blue CRT for adjustment before pressing 5. Also this fine adjustment mode should be done last because moving any point in the grid in the primary convergence mode seems to "erase" the fine adjustments. The fine adjustments also appear to have more of an effect on other parts of the convergence

Mute P. Mode TV/Video

grid. For all these reasons, the fine adjustment mode should be used for just fine adjustments and only if needed. Toggles on and off a half-step mode in which adjustments to the grid are performed in half steps. This half-step mode can be used in conjunction with the "move line" mode that is activated by pressing 4. Selects RED CRT for adjustment Selects GREEN CRT for adjustment Selects BLUE CRT for adjustment Moves the crosshair indicating point to be aligned to the next point Moves the crosshair indicating point to be aligned to the next point back Changes crosshair point selector to advance to the next point up/down instead of left/right. Press again to go back. Adjusts the convergence of the selected point up or down Adjusts the convergence of the selected point left or right Turns red CRT on and off during adjustment Turns green CRT on and off during adjustment Turns blue CRT on and off during adjustment Shifts the whole grid left (Im not sure what this is for) Shifts the whole grid right (Im not sure what this is for) Swap back to video input (does not exit, I think this is so you can swap out and see how you settings look) Saves settings MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SETTING CORRECT BEFORE PUSHING THIS Youve been warned. Exits the advanced convergence service mode.
Channel UP/Down Volume UP/Down +Pre-Chan MTS Rotate Display Add/Erase S. Mode
Any buttons not listed here means I do not know what they are or they did not seem to do anything on my set. As a final section here I will go slightly into removing the screen on this set. I had read in many posts on other sets how dirty the mirror and lenses were so I though Id give it a whirl on my Samsung. As you probably already know the some of the Samsungs (at least this model) do not have a screen protector. Its actually very easy and should be the same on similar newer Samsung sets that have the silver frame around the screen. On my set it was easier to first remove the speaker grille from the bottom. It just pulls off and pops back on easily. Now for the screen, just start at either top corner of the frame and pull it straight toward you and once you get a corner started you can work your way around the entire frame. It will come off and it just snaps back on,
dont worry. Once the whole frame is removed set it to the side. On my set there are 4 black rails that hold the screen sandwich, one on each side and one on the top and bottom. Also on my set the top, bottom, and left frames are stapled to the cabinet. The right rail however is screwed to the cabinet with 3 screws to facilitate easy removal. Just take these 3 screws out and carefully remove the rail. At this point youve likely already peeked inside and saw what I saw. An absolutely filthy mirror and lenses. I also did this whole procedure while the set was on which made seeing the gunk easier. Now the screen should slide completely out the right side of the TV. Be VERY careful and bow the screen slightly outwards while removing and reinstalling the screen so it does not drag along the right edge of the TV cabinet and scratch the inside of the screen. I will say that getting the mirror absolutely clean is a pain in the rear, nuff said. While I was in there I also painted any non-black spots I saw with a very small brush and some black primer. There were only a couple of tiny spots where parts of the cabinet, etc. were joined together. Many, many thanks go out to the members of the HomeTheaterSpot forum who have written so many great tips and instructions about RPTV. You are the people that inspired me to try some of these tweaks and showed me that it does get better than out of the box by a LONG shot. The toughest part for me was not really having much of anything to go on specifically for Samsung TVs. My wife is not exactly as thrilled as I am but she is starting to look closer and see some of the subtle differences that Ive been making. She just wants me to get a second job to support my addiction to this stuff Also thanks to KeohiHDTV for more tips. Other credits go to Mitch Weatherly for some of the information regarding a few of the convergence buttons and Drak at HomeTheaterSpot for verifying another model. Oh well, yall enjoy and happy tweaking.
