You do not need to connect the headphones cord for noise reduction only operation.
For noise reduction and audio
2. Connect the headphones cord to an audio source.
To enjoy both noise reduction and audio: 1. Gently push the headphones plug all the way into the connector opening until the plug housing is flush with the earcup.
Note: The LO setting of the LEVEL switch lowers the volume levels of strong audio output signals which are common on airline systems. If you find that the volume level is too low, set the LEVEL switch to HI.
3. Put on the headphones. Then slide the power switch forward to the On position. The battery light indicator will illuminate.

Using the adapter plugs

To connect to in-flight entertainment systems equipped with dual output connectors, use the dual 3.5 mm output plug.

Storing the headphones

To store the headphones in the case, rotate the earcups inward, then place the headphones in the case.
Note: If you find that the volume level is too low, remove the adaptor plug and plug the headphone directly into the 3.5 mm output connector.
To connect to an audio device that has a in (6.3 mm) stereo output connector, use the stereo adapter plug.
CAUTION: Incorrectly rotating the earcups can damage the headphones.
Battery life and replacement
Although it varies by usage, battery life averages 40 hours. The battery light indicator starts flashing when there are approximately 5 hours of battery life remaining. When a replacement is needed, use a AAA alkaline battery (IEC LR03).
Note: Remaining battery life may vary when using rechargeable batteries. NiMH batteries, composed of nickel metal hydride, are recommended.
Reattaching the earcup cushions
If a cushion becomes partially or completely detached: 1. Push its mounting rim back into the earcup.
2. Press around the edge of the mounting rim, making sure it snaps into place all the way around the earcup.
Replacement parts and accessories

You can purchase accessories from your Bose dealer, on the internet, or by placing an order over the phone. See the inside back cover for contact information. 5

Troubleshooting

Other Considerations

WARNING: Except in case of emergency, Bose recommends that you NOT use these headphones as aviation communication headsets because: No incoming audio will be heard with a discharged or improperly installed battery. This could result in the potential of missed communications while piloting an aircraft. Extremely loud ambient noise levels common to many propeller-driven aircraft may impair your ability to receive incoming audio communications, particularly during takeoff and climb out. The QuietComfort 2 headphones are not engineered for altitude, temperature or other environmental conditions common in non-commercial aircraft, resulting in possible interference to critical communications.
QuietComfort 2 headphones are designed for passenger use in air transport aircraft. They are not engineered to meet the needs of pilots or to meet civil aviation authority standards for communication headsets. For pilots, Bose offers a communication headset specifically designed to meet or exceed civil authority standards. It features a microphone with the appropriate power and intelligibility for transmission of flight information. It is also engineered to withstand the altitude and temperature conditions that are common in noncommercial aircraft. For more information on products for pilots, please contact Bose Corporation using the information supplied on the inside back cover of this owners guide.

Wearing the headphones

As you put on the headphones, observe the markings that identify the left (L) and right (R) earcups. Adjust the headband so it rests gently on top of your head and the earcup cushions t comfortably around your ears.
Use Using your headphones
If you plan to use them for noise reduction only, simply put on the headphones and turn on the power switch, located on the right earcup. There are no cable connections required for this use. To use the headphones for audio, rst notice the settings on the audio attenuator shown below.

Hi/Lo switch

These Hi and Lo settings are used to adjust the output volume of different audio sources. Lo is typically used for airline audio or audio devices that use A/C power. Hi is typically used for battery-powered audio devices. Note: Hi and Lo settings have no effect on noise reduction. Select the appropriate setting for the sound source you will use. Then insert the audio attenuator into the opening on the left (L) earcup and press it in so it is ush with the side of the earcup. As soon as you connect the headphone plug to your audio source, you are ready to put on the headphones and turn on the power switch to enjoy both audio and noise reduction. Use the volume control on the selected audio source to make additional volume adjustments.

Use Connecting to an audio source
You can use the headphones with a variety of audio sources: airline audio, a CD, DVD or MP3 player, a personal or laptop computer, or home stereo. The maximum input voltage is 9 Vrms. To make the connection, insert the headphone plug into the jack on the audio source you will use. Notice the jack congurations on the left in the chart below. Instructions on the right tell you how to connect to each type of jack: A single, 3.5 mm jack (on most portable sources) use the single plug. No adapter needed. Two 3.5 mm jacks use the dual plug adapter. One 3.5 mm jack and one power jack use the single plug in the 3.5 mm jack (the larger one). The smaller jack does not need a connection. One power jack and two 3.5 mm jacks use the dual plug adapter for the two 3.5 mm jacks. The power jack does not need a connection. One 6.3 mm jack (for home stereos) use the 6.3 mm stereo phone adapter. Note: Audio jack congurations on airplanes vary. Also, airline audio may not equal the high quality audio you can get from a home stereo or a portable source.
Care Folding the earcups for storage
QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones feature rotating earcups that fold at for easy, convenient storage. They rotate in one direction only.
Note: Incorrectly rotating the earcups can damage the headphones.
Reattaching earcup cushions
The earcup cushions are held in place by a mounting ange. This ange snaps under small tabs located around the inside rim of the earcup.
If an earcup cushion becomes partially or completely detached, push its mounting ange back into the earcup. Then use your nger or thumb to press around the edge of the mounting ange, making sure it snaps into place all the way around the earcup.

Care Battery replacement

Although it varies by usage, battery life averages 35 hours. With the headphones turned on, the battery light indicator will ash when there are approximately 5 hours of battery life remaining. When a replacement is needed, use 1 AAA alkaline battery (IEC LR03). Tilt the top of the right earcup inward to gain access to the battery compartment.
Note: You can use rechargeable batteries (NiMH, composed of nickel metal hydride, are recommended). They average half the life of alkaline batteries. However, the low battery indicator light is not set for such batteries and will not be a reliable indicator of their remaining battery life.
Replacement parts and accessories
You can order parts and accessories, as listed below, by contacting Bose Customer Service. See the phone number for your area on the inside back cover of this guide. Dual plug adapter Accessory kit (includes adapters, extension cord, 2 AAA batteries) Deluxe carry case Replacement ear cushion kit 1.5 m extension cord 6.2 m extension cord Audio attenuator
