Sony Rolls Out MHS-CM1 and PM1 Webbie HD Cameras
Ultra portable, social-networking oriented
Over the recent couple of months, we've seen quite a few digital camcorders targeting especially "YouTube" fanatics arrive on the market, most of which share the same basic features, such as ease of use, a very small and portable factor and more or less average video recording capabilities. And that's exactly how we could briefly describe Sony's latest MHS-CM1 and MHS-PM1 Webbie HD cameras, with a slight difference, though: in their case, the HD moniker is not just for show-off. And that's because these Webbie HDs are capable of recording videos at a maximum resolution of 1440x1080 pixels and 30 frames per second, as well as take 5-megapixel still photos, something that few other models can actually achieve. The cameras don't sport any built-in memory, but instead rely on Memory Stick PRO Duo media, and in order to make things easier for users (especially those with little "film-making" experience), they also provide five scene selection modes, such as low light, sports and landscape. Additionally, both models come pre-loaded with the PMB Portable software, which, once you've connected the Webbie HD to a computer (via USB), allows you to immediately transfer the recorded content to video and photo sharing websites, such as Shutterfly, Picasa Web Albums, YouTube, Dailymotion and Photobucket. Although the features and specs of the new MHS camcorders are quite similar, there are also a few differences. For example, the MHS-CM1 camera sports a 2.5-inch LCD screen that swivels up to 270 degrees and a 5X optical zoom. The MHS-PM1 has been equipped with a rotating swivel lens with 4X digital zoom that flips over. The MHS-CM1 will be available starting today in stores across the US and will sell for 200 US dollars, while users more interested in the PM1 will have to wait until April and save around $170.
