Setting the Clock

Switch on the mains supply to the LP522 and hinge down the front cover. Press and release the button marked SET. The question SET CLOCK ? will appear in the display. Press and release the button marked YES to answer the question and the day part of the display will flash. Use the + and - buttons to change to the correct day then press SET again. This will cause the hour part of the display to flash. Again use the + or - to change to the correct hour (check AM or PM) then press SET again. The display will now show SET PROG? (see later instructions for changing your programme). Press the SET button again, and the display will show the time of day you have set. Your programmer is now in the operating mode and ready to work using the built-in standard programme times.
LPDay / 2 Day Electronic Programmer
The Lifestyle LP522 programmer will automatically switch your system ON and OFF once or twice a day, whichever you wish and at whatever times you choose. Weekend times can be different from weekday times. It has the advantage of a battery back-up system to protect the programme timings during power cuts or shut-downs. If you have a fully-pumped and controlled system you will be able to have central heating without hotwater or vice versa. A gravity-fed hot water system does not allow heating to be on without hot water.
NOTE: If you wish to make changes to the ON or OFF timings for CH during Monday-Friday press the YES button, if not press the SET button again and this will change the display question to SET HW MONFRI PROG ?. Press YES if you want to change the HW timings during Monday-Friday, if not press SET again. The display will now ask SET CH SATSUN PROG ?. Press YES to make changes or SET to move to SET HW SATSUN PROG ?. Again you have to answer the question either with the YES button or by pressing the SET button once more which will return the programmer to the normal operating mode with the time of day displayed. If you answer YES to SET CH MONFRI PROG ? or to SET HW MONFRI PROG ? the display will show the time set for the first switch on (ON1) to occur during Monday - Friday. This can be altered in steps of 10

minutes by the use of the + and - buttons. When the display is showing the time you want, press SET and the OFF1 time will be seen. Again changes may be made with the + or - buttons before pressing SET to display the time for ON2 to occur. After making any adjustments press SET again to get the OFF2 time displayed. This may be adjusted up to 23 hours 50 mins after the first switch on time. Press SET again and SET CH SATSUN PROG ? is displayed. By answering YES, the same procedure can be followed for adjusting the CH timings for Saturday and Sunday. Press SET again and SET HW SATSUN PROG ? is displayed. By answering YES, the same procedure can be followed for adjusting the HW timings before pressing SET one final time to go back into operating mode.

Programme Options

Your installer should have set the LP522 to suit your heating system. If this is one which does not permit you to have CH without HW you will find the LP522 does not allow this to happen. If you have a fully pumped and controlled system then you will be able to operate heating and hot water independently. The LP522 gives you 4 options for both CH and HW: OFF - Off all the time TWICE - On for two periods each day ONCE - On for one period each day (ON1 OFF2) ON - On all the time. Remember some hot water systems do not allow CH to be ON without HW being ON. Obtain the options you require by using the SELECT buttons to move the arrows in the display to the appropriate positions. Your programmer is now working using the standard programme times. If these suit your needs there is nothing else to do. You can temporarily override the normal switching times by pushing the button marked ADVANCE. This switches ON to OFF or OFF to ON as you require, but the normal programme switching times will not be permanently affected. If you want to make changes to the programme (10 minutes steps) it is suggested you write them down before making the changes.

Helpful Hints

1. The + and - buttons are used to change times. Press and release for small changes; press and hold down and the time will run. 2. You cannot set the first switch on time (ON1) before mid-night but you can set the OFF2 after mid-night so long as you dont try to exceed 23 hours 50 mins after ON1. 3. The four switching times have to be in sequence (ON 1, OFF1, ON2, OFF2) if you try to set OFF1 earlier than ON 1 the display will stop at the ON1 time with the OFF symbol flashing. The same thing will happen with other switching times e.g. between OFF1 and ON2, this time the ON symbol will flash. 4. If you attempt to set the ON1 time after the OFF1 time, the ON symbol will flash and the OFF1 setting will follow the ON1 time being set to prevent incorrect programming. The same feature applies with the ON2 and OFF2 times and also between the OFF1 and ON2 times. 5. If you get confused and wish to start the whole programming procedure again, press the SET and + buttons together for a moment. The programmer will revert to a mid-night time display and the built-in standard programme. You will now have to set the clock again and then enter the programme you want. 6. When you are making adjustments to timings, if no button is pressed for 1 to 2 minutes, the programmer will automatically revert to the normal operating mode. 7. To shut the CH down for the summer simply select the OFF option by means of the CH select button. 090 - 653 ISSUE C 08/01

Programming

The clock in the LP522 has to be set to the actual day of the week and time of day. It must then be told at what times you want it to switch your Central Heating (CH) and Hot Water (HW) system ON and OFF both for weekdays and weekends. The LP522 has an in-built programme of standard switching times. They may well be right for you, but if they are not exactly what you want you can change them. The standard programme is shown in the table below and for simplicity, the switching operations are described as ON1, OFF1, ON2, and OFF2 from now on.

Changing your Programme

With the programmer in the operating mode and the display showing the actual time of day, press the SET button. The display will show SET CLOCK ? but this has already been done so push the SET button again. The question SET PROG ? will appear and as it is the programme timings which are to be changed answer by pressing the YES button. The display will now ask SET CH MONFRI PROG ?.

Programmers allow you to set On and Off time periods. Some models switch the central heating and domestic hot water on and off at the same time, while others allow the domestic hot water and heating to come on and go off at different times. Set the On and Off time periods to suit your own lifestyle. On some programmers you must also set whether you want the heating and hot water to run continuously, run under the chosen On and Off heating periods, or be permanently off. The time on the programmer must be correct. Some types have to be adjusted in spring and autumn at the changes between Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time. You may be able to temporarily adjust the heating programme, for example, Override, Advance or Boost. These are explained in the manufacturers instructions. The heating will not work if the room thermostat has switched the heating off. And, if you have a hot-water cylinder, the water heating will not work if the cylinder thermostat detects that the hot water has reached the correct temperature.
